James: so I'm in love with him. regulus.

Remus: regulus? Sirius' brother?

James: yeah. thoughts?

Remus: and prayers.

“Prongs?” Sirius questions with a mouthful of bacon, scrunching up his nose in confusion as James slumps next to him on the bench. “Why is your tie green?”

James immediately sits up in his seat. His hand goes straight to his tie, lifting it up to examine the color and cursing himself when he finds it green, not red. James suddenly finds it hard to breathe as he looks over at his friends, each of them curiously glancing over in his direction and waiting for a response.

“Um…” James trails off, trying to make up a believable explanation. “Oh! A Slytherin must’ve charmed it! To get back at us for last week's prank.” He nods feverishly, trying desperately to appear sincere.

It seems to work as Sirius makes a disgruntled noise, rolling his eyes as he reaches for another piece of bacon. “Those slimy snakes.” He shoves the bacon into his mouth, chewing on it angrily. “Don’t worry, Prongs. We’ll get ‘em back.”

Peter nods across the table in agreement, and the two immediately delve into a conversation about hair dye and explosions. James tries not to seem conspicuous about his relief, though a tap on his shoulder lets him know he was unsuccessful. James sighs in defeat.

He should’ve known nothing gets past Remus Lupin.

“You don’t suppose the Slytherins also pranked Regulus Black, now would you?” Remus whispers, nodding over to the Slytherin table. James follows his gaze to where Regulus is scowling, his face as red as the tie around his neck while his friends laugh hysterically around him.

James chokes back a laugh, trying to disguise it as a cough at the last second. He swipes a piece of toast off of Remus’ plate, taking a big bite before smiling sweetly at him. “I don’t know what you mean, Moony.”

Barty: Potter, you like Regulus, right?

James: Wha, n-no, what are you on about?

Barty: Okay, now that's sorted, do you want to fake date me?

James: Barty, I'm flattered but I have feelings for someone else.

Barty: Yeah I know, Regulus, that's the whole point.

Barty: Also, I said fake date Potter, get your hearing checked.

James: I'm sorry, but why would we fake date?

Barty: Salazar, I don't get what Regulus sees in you, you're as dense as fucking brick.

James: What?

Barty: I guess I have to spell it out to you. I am Regulus's ex. If we pretend to date it will make him so jealous. He'll see straight through it, realise what you are doing and you'll be going out in a few weeks.

James: Wait, what's the catch?

Barty: Catch? That is litterally it?

James: That plan doesn't benefit you at all? Of course there's a catch?

Barty: Oh, but you see it very much benefits me because Evan is going to react the exact same way as Regulus, towards me.

Alright! So I finished hand binding Crimson Rivers by @mayzarbewithyou :) this was my first time bookbinding so excuse the mistakes I am far from great, but all in good time! This fic basically changed the trajectory of my life so I thought I’d give it the love it deserves! the spine is regulus standing looking up at the tree and he is purposely put on the last book because he finally learned how to climb and grow. I’m so emotional over the end of the fic so this is very emotional to me. I did the typeset myself and there are some cool details I’ll try to put in another post, but basically I added all of Zar’s end notes as footnotes to the specific scenes he talks about! All very fun and the dingbats match the theme for the books and the backs each have quotes the correspond. I split it into 5 just because it didn’t feel right to have the epilogues in the same book as the war. They were two completely different parts of the story so I separated them. Anyways I’ll make another post. This was a labor of love and I hope I did it Justice :)

Lily: why do you want to be a prefect anyways?

Remus: private bathroom

Lily: really?

Remus: I have shared a bathroom with Sirius, James, and Peter for the last 4 years.
