i like the idea that despite their obvious color palettes atsushi is more into dark stuff while akutagawa prefers lighter ones. atsushi drinks black coffee while akutagawa likes lattes. atsushi listens to metal while akutagawa likes classic music. atsushi is maybe a thriller fan while akutagawa has comfort shows. it's just something i think about

Atsushi likes reading. I really like the symbolic meaningfulness that has to it. Much like Oda is the writer character (and the author's self-insert), Atsushi is the character who reads. In a series which is so intrinsically tied to the theme of literature to the point of having the word literature in its own title, with uncountable meta reflections of books being written on to create reality, characters fighting their already written narrative, endless loops of characters who are writers who are characters who are writers, Atsushi, as the Bungou Stray Dogs protagonist, owes a strong and deep connection to books as the reader character. He's the reader, and not the writer, because of the active role he plays, because he's the pov we experience the story through, because he interacts with the world firsthand but is oblivious to the overarching plot; and so he's the character the reader is supposed to feel the strongest connection with, and that's why he himself becomes a reader.

HC that even under Fukuzawa's ability Atsushi gets moody as it gets closer to the full moon. He gets more easily irritated and tiger features like his fangs and ears pop out more often than usual. Hate hate hate that Scar has this rep of being bad at the life series or being one of the quickest out. It is one of the most infuriating myths I am clawing at my hair. The worst he's done is 9th place. The quickest he's been out is 6th. Skizz and Tango have never placed better than Scar. Bigb, Bdubs, and Ren have only placed better than him once. None of these guys are treated as though they are in any way incapable. Stop infantalizing and belittling Scar
