Atsushi having childish emotional outbursts. I hate to be ooc I really do but I'm just thinking, with his (extremely) rough upbringing, he wasn't exactly given the opportunity to mature in that regard. So what if one day Dazai and Kunikida were pestering him that he already doesn't eat enough, that he can't skip lunch break and has to eat something. And what if Atsushi doesn't want to. He doesn't want to eat. They can't make him. The harder they push, the more upset he gets, until sweet Atsushi has slit pupils, sharpened nails and his actually raising his voice at them. He storms away and slams the Agency door shut behind him on his way out, leaving the two detectives flabbergasted. It being Kenji or Yosano who join him where he's holed himself up on the roof and let him explain what happened.

What if Atsushi doesn't want that checkup today. What if he doesn't care his shirt has a bloodstain, what if he doesn't want to take it off. What if he doesn't want to. Even though all of them almost certainly know better, what if Atsushi doesn't want to eat lunch that day.

Hc that when Beast Atsushi killed the headmaster he just went silent to a frightening degree and even when he got back to the PM headquarters even when B!Dazai was doling out his punishment he didn't make a single sound stuck in his mind to the point that it actually unnerved Dazai.

I can’t think about pre-Agency Atsushi without bawling my eyes out.

In every single flashback we see Atsushi scared, berated and abused.

There was not a point in his life where he has ever felt safe or loved and cared about. No one cared if Atsushi lived or died.

No one has shown him a shred of kindness for 18 years.

Atsushi wasn’t allowed to own anything. Nothing has ever belonged to him and the one thing that did they tried to take from him anyway.

And he’s so small…he’s so small and frail and sure all the other kids do but he’s so much smaller than them.

He’s the runt of the litter. The one who gets starved on a regular basis and everyone may hate each other but they all hate him together.

You just see him and he’s practically shaking with fear. He’s yelled at for simply existing. Beaten and told well it doesn’t matter because you’ve had worse.

And he knows he’s had worse.

And it’s all Atsushi’s ever known and by some fucking miracle he still clings to life with both hands.

He’s the living embodiment of resilience, of grit and determination because he grew up full of light in a place of darkness.

Atsushi was raised in hell and it cultivated a strong will but it doesn’t change that he was raised in hell.

Kinda wild how Atsushi has suffered throughout his entire life both in and out of the orphanage.

How he was abused and almost killed at least twice during his childhood and was abandoned by his parents.

But than Atsushi has what? Two maybe three good days before the Port Mafia show up. And suddenly people expects him to not be traumatised by his past.

His past he was still experiencing up until 2 weeks ago.

You know everyone else is allowed to have traumatic events that happened years ago and still be traumatised by those events.

Unless you’re Atsushi.

Odasuku died 4 years ago and that’s when Dazai left the Port Mafia.

The Flags died 6 years ago.

But Chuuya, Akutagawa and Dazai are all allowed to still grieve those events in the present.

As they should be because that’s how trauma works.

Atsushi has been abused for 18 years. He was kicked out the orphanage and was homeless for 2 weeks where he was on the brink of death.

He just learned he had an ability and then has to reconcile with how and why he forgot about that.

All alone.

And that’s just the shit Atsushi lets us know about.

But no he needs to get over it apparently.

Concept: Orange cat Atsushi

Aka Atsushi’s a regular tiger not a white one and that means he’s got orange cat behaviours.

Tigers don’t purr instead they chuff and as long as he’s not being actively traumatised Atsushi’s always chuffing.

Because he’s happy, happy to be with the Agency.

They find it quite soothing to hear and so whenever someone’s injured or afraid Atsushi will just curl up beside them and chuff.

Touch starved orphan that hates being left alone = clingiest little guy.

It’s something the Agency all has to get used too because they’re not really that affectionate touch wise.

Most of the time Dazai is the target because he will happily indulge him (probably because he’s also clingy as hell.)

If one tries to get away from Atsushi when he’s attached to them he will shriek until they come back.

Kunikida: Atsushi! That’s enough I have a very important meeting to get too.

Atsushi looks up at him all teary eyed.

And then Kunikida leaves carrying a very happy Atsushi with him and glares at anyone to comment.

Atsushi just likes being carried but he’ll always end up upside down and if you try and carry him properly he will jump off you.

Kenji has terrified many a person by happily walking through the streets carrying a giant happy tiger (tiger Atsushi doesn’t realise he’s a giant tiger and still demands to be carried.)

The Agency had rats once and everyone thought Atsushi might do something. No he was just on the sofa, rolled on his back and baking biscuits in the air without a care in the world.

Atsushi is easily started he will jump a foot in the air in fright if the wind blows too hard against the window. He will spend the rest of the day (or rather until he forgets what he was scared off) up on the bookshelves.

He can be bribed down with food though.

Atsushi is rarely ever still, even when he’s asleep or being carried he has to move. Ranpo gave him a fidget toy once and he played with it for 3 hours straight.

The first time Atsushi saw Chuuya floating around he tackled him midair. He then immediately lost interest when Chuuya was on the ground and thus not floating anymore.

Dazai laughed his arse off and filmed the whole thing. And then Chuuya used his ability to get Atsushi off him and then you had Atsushi spinning about like the happiest little guy.

Chuuya: There’s something wrong with this kid.

Dazai: How dare you, Atsushi is a wonderful and amaz- oh shit he’s going blue. Atsushi! Remember to breathe!

Chuuya: How the fuck do you forget how to breathe?!

Dazai: He has a lot going on okay.

Concept: Atsushi with looser morals.

Atsushi was raised in an environment where the kind die first. A place where he was taught the only person you can trust is yourself.

Atsushi learned how to survive a point system that never rewarded him. He would do other kids chores, take their punishments in exchange for food.

He was raised in hell and it meant that he learned to survive by any means necessary.

Atsushi stops Junichiro and passes his entrance exam because Dazai and Kunikida were kind to him. They gave him food, shelter and saved him when no one else ever has.

He doesn’t get involved until they’re put in danger. In his eyes he was paying them back for it and the job was completely unexpected.

Obviously Atsushi accepts because where else was he gonna go with no qualifications and an ability he can’t control.

He does pay Kunikida back for the 30 bowls of tea on rice even if the other says he doesn’t need too.

As if not paying his debts ever felt like an option to him.

Atsushi doesn’t think he’s a good person. He follows the law because the Agency (sometimes) does. He helps protect the city because the Agency does.

And working with the Agency gives him shelter and money so that he can eat and thus live.

Atsushi doesn’t think he belongs with them. He’s a coward and in the end he only really looks out for himself. In his eyes he’s not a good person.

Definitely not someone worth their kindness nor their belief and trust.

When the Port Mafia comes for his bounty he runs off without a second thought. He only comes back because Kunikida calls him to come help with the clean up.

Atsushi just silently sweeps up debris dodging the questions demanding to know where he was.

He doesn’t get why they don’t just sell him out. Sure they can clearly handle the Port Mafia but the bounty would be useful to them all.

It’s not like he’s worth keeping around. Certainly not for Dazai to let himself get kidnapped for.

He’s just another ungrateful mouth to feed as the Heasmaster would call him.

And he’s not wrong because Atsushis whole life has been spent trying to survive to his next day that actually being able to live his life feels weird to him.

He doesn’t really know how too. He had no dreams ot aspirations. He never thought he’d live long enough to escape the orphanage.

Maybe he should just hand himself over? Take the cash and dip while the others use his wage for something far more useful.

Maybe find someone worth keeping around.

But Atsushi doesn’t.

Because as times go on he starts to realise that not only does the Agency care about him. But that he cares for them too.

He likes watching Dazai and Kunikida bicker. He feels a sense of comfort when Yosano asks if he’s okay. When Ranpo tells him that he did a good job.

But the real kicker is when Atsushi meets Kyouka because all his instincts scream that he should run.

But he doesn’t.

Because Yosano is counting on him to protect the trains civilians. And he doesn’t want to let her down.

Kyouka Izumi is not a civilian.

Kyouka Izumi has a bomb strapped to her chest and has killed 35 people and will probably kill him too.

The Agency might be disappointed if he took her out but they’d understand.

But Atsushi has no reason to save her, for god’s sake he can’t even save himself how can he possibly help her?

So why does he look into her eyes and see himself. He sees a survivor, he sees someone who won’t fight him back because living was never an option for her.

Well who decides that?

Who decides whether or not if a person deserves to live or die? He didn’t think he deserved too and yet he was saved.

To live your whole life thinking such a thing…isn’t living at all. Atsushi wouldn’t wish such a thing even on his worst enemy.

“I don’t want to kill anyone else”

He moves without a second thought and the next thing he knows is he’s in the Agencies infirmary.

“Why did you bring her here?”

“I don’t know! Because you told me that we help people. And she…she needed help.”

He can barely understand it himself and yet the look Kunikida gives him is both exasperated and proud.

“So you finally admit it then. Hmm, I’ll speak to the President and we’ll go from there.”

“Admit what?”

“That you’re a member of the Armed Detective Agency. You’ve finally accepted that you’re one of us.”

Oh.

Oh he did, didn’t he?

And it felt right.

And so Atsushi makes himself a promise.

That if the Agency wants him to be kind then he’ll be kind. If the Agency wants him to fight then he’ll give it everything he’s got.

If the Agency wants him to sacrifice his life he’ll do so without question.

Because Atsushi doesn’t know how to live for himself so he’ll live for them.

And if they care for this city and all those within it then he’ll treasure it.

Did anyone else think about how much pain atsushi would have been just from people yelling at him? House cats and especially big cats have very good hearing like better than a dog's hearing. So not only would have he been hit and physically abused his ears would have probably been in so much pain from all of them yelling at him all at once and his enhanced senses kicking it up a notch. Just something you think about

Atsushi: I’m texting Akutagawa, I’m gonna ask him to dinner. How should I text it, “Let’s get dinner” or “Do you wanna get dinner”?

Kunikida: Go with, “Let’s get dinner”, so you’re like assertive and confident.

Atsushi: For sure!

Yosano: Actually now you sound a little aggressive. Cause you don’t wanna be the guy that’s like “LET’S GET DINNER” like you’re some kind of caveman.

Dazai: You are suppose to ask him to dinner, not tell him to dinner.

Atsushi: Perfect.

Ranpo: Actually wait, now you sound kinda like a pussy.

Atsushi: This is tough.

Yosano: The last thing you wanna be is the overly masculine guy like “LET’S GET DINNER I’M THE BREADWINNER BITCH”.

Ranpo: But guys also love assertiveness.

Kenji: Say “dinner is something I would enjoy taking you on if you were also interested in attending the meal.”

Atsushi: The more words the better.

Tanizaki: No wait, say “I would like nothing more than to take you to the finest restaurant in town for a lovely meal we call dinner.”

Atsushi: Should I send that in a voice memo?

Dazai: Fuck that, say “Dinner tonight, 7PM, take it or leave it, you bitch.” Cause he’s playing games now.

Ranpo: Sign it, seal it, deliver it.

Yosano: I don’t know why gays are so difficult all the time.

Atsushi: I’m not gonna say that.

Kunikida: Definitely don’t say that.

Concept: The Dark Era except it’s Akutagawa, Atsushi and Kyouka taking the roles of the Buraiha trio (Dazai, Odasaku and Ango.)

Ryuunosuke Akutagawa was a mysterious member of the Armed Detective Agency.

His past was not known of for years but he had once been a prominent member of the Port Mafia. He had been known by many titles, such as the Hellhound.

Akutagawa was cruel. He was cold and he was never one to leave a witness alive.

And yet that man was not the one the Agency knew. They knew a rather blunt man who drank sugary teas, was a diligent worker. And who despite his tempered nature had a soft spot for children.

A man that never hesitated to strike but would never dare kill

For Akutagawa has long since that life behind him because of the words of an old friend.

Atsushi Nakajima was an enigma to all who ever met him.

A man who had once been a high profile and deadly assassin who out of nowhere stopped. He lived his life rescuing orphans from lives similar to his own and granting them safe homes.

He was a light that shone so brightly in the darkness.

He never should’ve killed again.

Kyouka Izumi was a simple informant.

It was a job not for the faint of heart but Kyouka thrived within it. She never flinched at even the most cruel of crimes. But she had the habit of wring her reports much like one would a story.

Despite her seemingly cold exterior she was a warm person who strongly believed people should be remembered as more than just numbers.

What no none had known was that Kyouka’s parents had been trained government spies. They had been assassinated right before her eyes and when their superiors came for the bodies.

They took her with them and she became their successor.

Maybe it was always supposed to end this way.

With Atsushi defending Kyouka’s innocence only to learn the truth with her betrayal.

With Akutagawa watching Atsushi slip through his fingers when the kids were killed before his eyes.

Yet still caring about Kyouka that he had her run rather then kill her.

That they still meet up to discuss plans with a distance that they’d never had before.

With Mori manipulating Atsushi’s loss knowing that he’d choose to save their lives over his own.

The silver bullets lodged in his chest as Akutagawa raced towards him begging him to hold on.

He never did get to write that book of his.

Concept: Kouyou growing fond over Atsushi.

Kouyou worries about Kyouka living in the light without her.

The Agency were an odd bunch and well Dazai was as unreadable as ever. But that tiger boy, as much as she’d rather not admit it Kouyou knows he’d take care of her girl.

The way Kyouka flocks him without hesitation and stands taller when he’s near. And that look in his eye when he defended her honour so brazenly…

Well it felt rather familiar.

So maybe when she and Kyouka cross paths Kouyou inquires, casually of her fellow team mates.

She doesn’t need to drop his name for there was no need. He was the first Kyouka named with that careful bright smile of hers. One Kouyou found herself relieved to see as Kyouka happily talked about the day she’d spent with him.

The weretiger always approached Kouyou with caution but he was civil enough. Atsushi seemed all for the world like a meek little thing but there was fire in those eyes.

And he gave as good as he got.

An entertaining quality of his that she loved to draw out. To see the sharp claws of the beast but in a way that never bought either of them harm.

They’re fights often carried conversations, usually about Kyouka but as time went on she’d fire the questions back on him.

Atsushi would be dodging Golden Demon’s strikes while talking about some case he’d taken. And Kouyou’s concentration didn’t waver as she listened.

Offering her own words of advice that to her delight he’d take note of.

Akutagawa saved Atsushi on the boat by using the shirt off his back to.

Not with the coat that Dazai gave him. The coat that has become the main conduit of his ability and marks the day they met.

It’s not with him now and in choosing to save Atsushi, he forfeits any chance of victory and thus ever gaining Dazai’s approval.

So what Akutagawa does is manipulate the shirt off his back instead. He uses something that truly belongs to him.

Its not a lot but in that moment it was all the power he had. And while it wasn’t enough to save himself it allowed him to get Atsushi to safety.

When Atsushi saved Akutagawa at the airport he did so by using his own strength.

And not the tigers.

Because while it was available to him unlike Akutagawa, Atsushi knew that it would’ve shielded him from the blade.

When he needed it to strike him.

And so Atsushi pushes Akutagawa away with all the strength he has. It is not enough to save them both but it’s enough for Atsushi to take his place.

Both of them are rendered in a situation where they are forced to rely on their own power. It’s not a perfectly executed plan of attack.

It’s a last desperate attempt with no other option to be found.

The I may be powerless right now but if I have the power to save you then that’s all the strength I need.

Orange Cat Atsushi

Aka Atsushi is part orange tiger instead of white and thus exhibits orange cat behaviours.

Atsushi will eat anything.

Literally anything, it doesn’t matter if it’s food or not. When he’s hungry Atsushi will just munch on whatever is in front of him.

It has led to many, many instances of Kunikida chasing him around the office and demanding he spit something out.

Dazai: Well that’s one report done, what about you Atsushi?

Atsushi: I’m almost done.

Dazai: That’s great I bet we’ll be done in no ti-….0-0?!!!!

At that moment Atsushi picked up his pen lid and put it in his mouth.

Dazai: Hey, why don’t we take a quick break hm? Maybe play a game.

Atsushi: 🤨

Dazai: You drop that pen lid and I’ll take you out for lunch.

Atsushi shakes his head.

Dazai: Really? Not even if it’s some some tea on rice.

Atsushi considers this and spits out the lid before looking at Dazai expectantly.

Dazai, relieved: Well lunch time it is

Kunikida: Dazai you can’t just-

Dazai: He’s eating the pens.

Kunikida:…We have a meeting in another hour, try not to be late.

Dazai: Got it, you coming Atsushi?

Atsushi: Carry me.

Dazai, chuckles: Oh Atsushi, the things I do for you.

Orange cat Atsushi

Aka if Atsushi was part regular tiger instead of a white one and exhibited orange cat behaviours.

Atsushi may be part cat (well tiger) but when he falls he never lands on his feet.

Like ever.

Atsushi will drop down several floors and face plant onto the ground.

And then get up like nothing happened. Atsushi has no sense of balance whatsoever and would trip on air if it was possible.

He will also just launch himself from above like a human projectile at a target.

He does miss…a lot and usually ends up going headfirst into a wall. But it will not stop him from trying again.

Atsushi can fight some of the most powerful ability users to exist but a strong breeze wind could knock him over.

Atsushi likes reading. I really like the symbolic meaningfulness that has to it. Much like Oda is the writer character (and the author's self-insert), Atsushi is the character who reads. In a series which is so intrinsically tied to the theme of literature to the point of having the word literature in its own title, with uncountable meta reflections of books being written on to create reality, characters fighting their already written narrative, endless loops of characters who are writers who are characters who are writers, Atsushi, as the Bungou Stray Dogs protagonist, owes a strong and deep connection to books as the reader character. He's the reader, and not the writer, because of the active role he plays, because he's the pov we experience the story through, because he interacts with the world firsthand but is oblivious to the overarching plot; and so he's the character the reader is supposed to feel the strongest connection with, and that's why he himself becomes a reader.

Is now a good or bad time to post about how Atsushi's Byakko is a metaphor for neurodivergency.

what if because of Fyodors (possible or confirmed unsure) religious past and present, he thinks Atsushi isnt “man” enough due to his reaction to his offer to join the DOA, he see’s him more a “boy” and less than a “man” because he’s more emotional.

What if the orphanage told Atsushi that and that’s why he’s so insecure and why thinks he’s so weak, i believe there are SOME implications that the orphanage could’ve possibly been religious, and with how he was treated its possible they could’ve told him stuff like how he’s “not ready to be a man yet” because he’d was just a more emotional kid

Orange Cat Atsushi

Akutagwa: There’s no need to make things easier for him. That Jinko is…where did he go?

Fukuchi: I think he just jumped into the sea? Not the tactic I expected but I’m guessing this wasn’t part of your plan.

Akutagwa: For god’s sake…Jinko!

Atsushi pokes his head out of the sea.

Akutagwa: Get back here! We have more pressing matters to attend too!

Atsushi huffs and Fukuchi laughs.

Fukuchi: So much for the great save, huh?

Akutagwa, narrows his eyes: Jinko if you agree to return to this ship I…will allow you to play with Rashomon.

Atsushi perks up.

Akutagwa: But if you’d rather swim about…

Next thing you know Atsushi’s on the ship, shaking himself like a dog and drenching Fukuchi in sea water.

Before standing beside Akutagwa.

Atsushi: I’m holding you to that.

Akutagwa: Why you wish to use my ability for something like tug of war is beyond me. But I always keep my word.

Atsushi chuffs with a toothy grin.

Fukuchi: You two are weird. And so confident that you’ll leave this boat alive when facing me-

He then slips on the water that’s puddling around him.

Concept: While often exaggerated many of Fukuchi’s exploits were made into films.

Over the years he would often send a copy to Fukuzawa so that the two could make fun of them together.

It’s movie night at the Agency and no one can agree on what to watch.

So they grab a random DVD from the pile, one they haven’t seen yet and put it in the TV.

It’s a cheesy action movie and they all get a kick out of the ridiculous one liners from Fukuchi’s actor.

But Atsushi can’t find it in himself to relax. There’s something about this movie that puts him on edge, not that he’s sure of why.

He brushes it aside and keeps watching as Fukuchi’s actor heads into a lab.

A large beast, several of them in fact give chase and Fukuchi valiantly fends them off. The others cheer at his victory but Atsushi goes still.

Because as Fukuchi leaves each and every one of those beasts glow and turn into humans.

And suddenly Atsushi’s not watching the movie. There’s alarms going off overhead. People in lab coats running off to who knows where.

He curls up into a ball inside a nearby bin terrified as the sound of battle gets closer to him.

“Turn it off!”

It’s very rare for Ranpo to get serious so maybe that’s why Dazai instantly turned the TV off without question.

The older detective frowned as he gently took Atsushi’s hands in his.

“You’re safe Atsushi” his voice soft get firm. The light of his glasses catching the younger’s eyes. “I…I’m sorry…I ruined the movie.” Ranpo shook his head “you could never ruin anything.”

But someone had.

Any illusion this was just some work of fiction went away the moment Atsushi recognised it.

And he didn’t even need to look at the others to know that they were all swearing to get to the bottom of this.

Because they were the Armed Detective Agency and no one gets away with hurting their own.

Post (movie) canon Beast Chuuatsu

Everyone in the Port Mafia learns to fear the new Boss.

Chuuya snaps at the slightest of things and where he once treasured his subordinates. He now looks at them now as nothing but tools.

Just another piece on the board for his revenge.

Some whisper that the old boss never left. That Dazai simply took on a new form and rotted the new Boss from the inside out. For where Dazai was ruthless Chuuya is cold and cruel.

The Port Mafia would’ve crumbled the moment he took the throne. The only reason the organisation stays afloat is because Chuuya’s not alone.

Atsushi is a permanent fixture by his side.

He takes on so many responsibilities along with being the main line of security. He overseers each and every sector of the Port Mafia and is the one people then to with issues.

Atsushi’s blood is Mafia through and through but there’s a light in him that shines amongst the darkness. A kindness that makes itself known in private and while his smile is a rare sight.

It is always genuine.

What’s most incredible about him though is that Atsushi is the only one who can calm down the Boss. His hand finds his when Chuuya’s angered, gently running a thumb over his knuckles.

When the Boss is one of his rages, when he’s at the brink of it all and no one dares get near him. There is Atsushi at the door, his smile is worn and his eyes tired.

And he crosses the room and holds the mad man in his arms. Begging for his partner to return, he holds him through the storm and then sends for food and water.

Sometimes you hear Chuuya, quiet and horrified as he begs for his forgiveness. That it won’t happen again, that he’s sorry and he loves him.

But those days become further and further apart.

No one in the Port Mafia dares to bad mouth Atsushi, not that anyone ever could. They hear him cry in the dead of night and feel their hearts break for him.

The White Reaper walks the halls like a ghost waiting for the day death finally reaches him. He will never leave for he’s chained himself to this place.

And the mad king who rules it.

Fanfic idea- Drunken one night stand

Prompt: Both Chuuya and Atsushi have a very good night~

Notes: So not gunna lie I have been craving a more saucy ChuuAtsu story lately and his idea kinda popped up in my head a few months ago so I decided to actually write out my thoughts as a break before I continued writing for ChuuAtsu day. 

Hope y’all like it and don’t judge me too harshly on the bad grammar lol

Actual idea- 

(For context I like to imagine that Chuuya and Atsushi have never formally met or have seen each other’s pictures, so yea they have no idea who the other is or their job) 

So the actual idea is very simple, I imagine that the point maybe during a birthday party or other special occasion Atsushi gets drunk for once. Of course everyone is having a good time and making sure things are fine but at some point while Dazai, Yosano, and Kunikida are having a drinking contest they kinda lose track of Atsushi. 

Though when they start to freak out Rampo assures them that Atsushi is fine they just go back to enjoying the party.

Coincidentally Chuuya is getting drunk at the place and meets up with drunken Atsushi. 

They actually hit it off really well while drunk. Atsushi thinks that Chuuya is unfairly pretty and wants to get to know him more and Chuuya finds Atsushi to be all around adorable with his wide pretty twilight eyes and warm smile. 

They eventually head back to Chuuya’s place and l won’t go into detail but Chuuya definitely makes that tiger purr~

I imagine that Atsushi is the first to wake up and is suffering a bit from a hangover but is overall feeling an odd feeling of happiness and embarrassment at waking up in this strangers bed after doing things~ 

So like the adorable but kind man he is he goes through the trouble of making sure to get Chuuya some water and medicine to put at his bed side and starts making breakfast for the man. 

Of course he only has a bit of time before going back to work so he writes a small note and leaves it next to the medicine  for Chuuya. 

He basically says a thank you for the wonderful time they had and apologizes in that self conscious way you imagine Atsushi to do since he’s not a very “experienced” partner.  He leaves his phone number hopes with a little “hope you you don’t have a bad hangover” side note. 

Then he leaves the apartment to go to his and Kyouka’s shared apartment so he can get showered, changed, and off back to the ADA.

Meanwhile a few hours later Chuuya wakes up with a killer headache and some very fuzzy but fun memories of being with a very beautiful man. 

Of course he looks over in his bed and as expected the guy left as is one night stand behavior. 

Though what he doesn’t expect is the thoughtful little note with medicine, or the nice little breakfast waiting for him at the table. 

Honestly this combined with the slowly growing memories of his one-night stand make’s Chuuya really want this to be more then a one time thing~ 

So he sends a few texts and Atsushi texts back~

This goes on for at least a couple weeks with some very nice nights until one day there is a fight that’s supposed to go down with the Port mafia and the ADA are trying to contain things before it gets too violate.

Which ends up with Chuuya and Atsushi actually meeting up with each other while working. And suffice to say both of them are shocked and didn’t expect this to happen. 

Atsushi grows worried that he’s broken some sort of rule and doesn’t want to get either the ADA or Chuuya in trouble so he tries his best to avoid Chuuya while trying to act normal (even though he’s a blushing stuttering mess when asked).

Meanwhile Chuuya is pissed at first of the thought of Atsushi taking advantage of him before he realizes that the guy had no idea about his identity and doing his best to do some sort of damage control for the both of them. 

Which is cute.

So of course Chuuya being Chuuya, instead of hiding or avoiding Atsushi just decides to flirt with Atsushi the entire time. 

Because this is a new but very adorable side to his lover that he wants to keep exploring, and he’s not afraid of the possible consequences. 

He's already decided that he wants this adorable tiger and he’s prepared fight to keep him~

Orange Cat Atsushi

Aka Atsushi is part orange tiger and thus exhibits orange cat behaviours.

Dazai: I know Atsushi I’m sure Kenji will be back soon.

Tiger Atsushi is curled up in a ball on the road and growls sadly.

Dazai: Oh I think I see him.

Tiger Atsushi perks up.

Chuuya: What the hell are you doing out here?!

Dazai: Oh never mind it’s just Chuuya. You know he’s so easy to mistake for a small child.

Chuyya: Why you!

Tiger Atsushi growls sadly.

Dazai: Wow Chuuya I hope you’re happy now you just made Atsushi sad.

Chuuya: I didn’t do shit. What’s wrong with him anyway?

Dazai: Atsushi wants to be carried.

Chuuya: You’re kidding me.

Dazai: Nope and while we could if he was in human form he refuses to turn back. And when I was gonna turn him back he hissed at me.

Chuuya: Oh boo hoo.

Dazai: Exactly, so now we have to wait for Kenji to come back from his case. But he ran into trouble so this is gonna be take a while.

Chuuya: What kind of giant rampaging tiger wants uppies?

Dazai: This one.

Chuuya thinks it over and sighs before looking at Atsushi.

Chuuya: So werebrat you wanna be carried?

Tiger Atsushi nods gravely.

Chuuya shakes his head and then lightly boops him on the nose and activates his ability.

Tiger Atsushi floats up in the air and spins around happily.

Dazai: Oh look you have uses after all.

Chuuya: I’m not doing this for you.

Dazai: Good because asking you for a favour might just kill me.

Chuuya: On that we agree:

Dazai: He looks so happy.

Chuuya: Yeah…why does he keep trying to crash into that building?

Dazai: When it comes to Atsushi one can never truly know.

Concept: Atsushi’s first transformation in the series is quite violent and that doesn’t change going forward.

Maybe it’s because of what Shibusawa did to him. Maybe it’s because he hasn’t accepted the tiger.

Whatever the case even with All Men are Equals in effect pain is the basis for Atsushi to transform.

A fact that doesn’t surprise him much.

Akutagawa looking down on Atsushi as this weakling and watching him writhe in agony. Because losing his leg was nowhere near as painful as gaining it back.

It even makes Akutagawa look away at the horrid sight. And while he’ll dismiss it here as time goes on he’ll think back on it.

How strong Atsushi must be to bare such a burden. How he’s seen people tortured fold quicker and yet Atsushi just picks himself up and keeps going.

Perhaps in sharing his ability Akutagawa hopes deep down that just for a little while that burden can be shared.

Kouyou watching in morbid fascination as this boy breaks himself apart just to save her Kyouka. All while Kyouka sees the lengths Atsushi will go for her, to save her.

Lucy’s cries that Atsushi’s more special die on her tongue seeing the agony that such a gift grants. How she would never want wish such a thing on anyone.

And the protectiveness she denies having when he goes off to fight once again.

The Agency as a whole try to use Atsushi’s ability as a last resort. No one likes seeing him in pain no matter how temporary it may be.

And no many times Atsushi reassures them it’s fine. Because really pain makes Atsushi who he is and he doesn’t get how to explain that.

If it means saving everyone he cares about and the city they hold dear then well it’s worth it.
