• Constantly bites the skin around his nails.

• Is really jealous of Dazai because he can whistle but Atsushi can't.

• Poor baby (grown ass man) gets taunted everyday. 😔

• Half his wardrobe consists of the other agency members don't wear anymore/don't fit them.

• Sensitive teeth.

• Cannot eat anything super cold without wincing.

• Craves attention but prefers to be alone.

• Drools and chuffs in his sleep.

• Kunikida keeps tissues on his desk to wipe down his face after he takes a nap.

• Can't do anything without explicit permission and clear instructions.

• Constant victim of "your mum" jokes.

• Everyone sits in awkward silence after. 

• Will remind others how good they're being even in the midst of chaos.

• He's like a broken record of admiration for those he looks up to.

• He gets really attached to his possessions because growing up in the orphanage he didn't really have anything that was his and only his.

• Lowkey a hoarder.

• Will never use something because he feels he has to save it for the perfect situation and that if he uses it at the wrong moments he will be wasting it.

• Smells like soap and apple scented shampoo.

• Was gifted shampoo for Christmas a year into working at the agency.

• Up untill that point he had just been using plain bar soap for his entire body.

• Chronically cold feet.

• Kunikida makes him wear fluffy socks and slippers every morning/night.

• Scrunches his nose alot.

• Rambles when scared or anxious.

• His love language is gift giving.

• Stomps his foot when he's mad.

• Really big handwriting if you know what i mean.

• Like everything he writes is biig.

• Can't wink.

• Dazai once winked at him to tease him and he just froze, squeezed his eyes shut and wrinkled his nose.

• This became a recurring way for Dazai to tease him.

He does not get a break.

• Will binge on whatever food is infront of him because he's scared it will disappear and he will miss the opportunity to eat.

au where no one tells atsushi akutagawa's name so at first he's just like 'this guy' or 'you' and eventually they've been running into each other for a hot second and atsushi's too embarrassed to ask now

and he can only say 'heyyyyy.... you' so long before akutagawa catches on that atsushi doesn't know his name and again atsushi is a little embarrassed since akutagawa knows his first and last name

so he starts saying nicknames like 'well well if it isn't the rabid dog' but thats long so it shortens to 'dog' but thats kinda mean and atsushi is learning that as much as akutagawa can rip him apart limb from limb he's also pretty harmless in some ways (and also if he says dog near akutagawa's coworkers that weird hat guy turns to him and then gets angry and stomps away so) so 'dog' is too violent so now he's calling akutagawa 'puppy' or 'pup'

but rabid dog to pup nickname pipeline isn't the only pipeline atsushi's got going on in terms of nicknames

there's "god you don't do anything for urself u just follow orders" to just calling him "doll"

the "what u have to have the highest quality tea or you wont drink it?" to "princess" pipeline

theres also "hey dude!" "do not call me dude" "hey d-du... uh i mean dear"

and calling akutagawa a coward for whatever he's got going on to calling him a baby (derogatory) to just calling him baby

and eventually at some point he starts realizing that these names are not translating the same way between him and akutagawa and literally anyone within hearing range

so he just owns it

but his other nicknames which don't have malicious roots aren't treated differently becuz akutagawa just thinks he's a weirdo which yeah

when he and akutagawa start getting close ranpo throws him a bone (in exchange for enough candy to fit a room) and tells him his name

and when atsushi calls akutagawa akutagawa, akutagawa gets upset so atsushi thinks he said the wrong name and corrects it by saying the other name ranpo gave him and akutagawa seems oddly pleased w/ being called ryuunosuke so atsushi takes it as a win

Is now a good or bad time to post about how Atsushi's Byakko is a metaphor for neurodivergency.

You know what would be an amazingly angsty idea? Byakko thinking Atsushi is unworthy of them, but instead of the "he's weak" kind of way, it being "he's unworthy of me because I don't want to see him suffer." Byakko's existence puts their user at risk, forcing them to forever struggle and bear enormous responsibility—a destiny they did not ask for. It would also be amazing if the story were from Byakko's perspective, with them always trying to ensure Atsushi survives, constantly watching, but at the same time, not being able to do anything to stop his suffering, no matter how much they would wish to.

atsushi, sighing, and pulling out what looks like a wallet but is a comically long card holder filled to the brim of pictures of akutagawa in weird poses like mid sneeze:

atsushi, pulling out an autograph book but filled only with ranpo's signature:

robber: do you have anything of value

atsushi, continuing to pull out random strange friend associated thing like one of those comically large knife collection memes but without knives:

atsushi: oh and i have a dollar

robber: thats it

atsushi: also ur under arrest

robber:

robber: u couldve done this the entire time

atsushi: i wanted to show someone my collection :)

For those of you who may not be too familiar with the manga, during ch39: Portrait of a Father, Akutagawa shows up, as Dazai's informant, to give Atsushi documents about who the orphanage headmaster was and what happened to him.

At that moment, Akutagawa shows an uncharacteristic clemency towards Atsushi, saying that "Atsushi's master died today", and compares this to his own relationship with Dazai.

This was a long time ago now, and a lot has happened since. The Cannibalism arc is right after this, where they are very antagonistic towards each other, and includes this scene:

Akutagawa, despite his bitterness towards Atsushi for who he is to Dazai, has seen how similar they are in this sense. Atsushi hasn't, because his gratefulness towards Dazai prevents him from seeing that Akutagawa's experience was completely different with this same person. (he's also not given any time by the narrative to wonder about it)

but then just came along chapter 122!!!

Atsushi gets to see, 1:1, the relationship between Akutagawa and Dazai. For the first time, Akutagawa is relatable to him.

And of course, at the end, Atsushi calls out the illusion as being the headmaster wearing Dazai's face because we are closing this loop! We are forcing Atsushi to see Akutagawa the same way Akutagawa has been seeing him!

okay since obviously ive gotten to into catifying atsushi i forgot he was a tiger - as u guys pointed out

this is how a beach episode would ACTUALLY play out in my head - kunikida, dazai, and atsushi focus

kunikida: are you not gonna go swimming dazai?

dazai: nope! i think today im just going to relax in the sand! maybe i'll try and drown myself later tho... what about you?

kunikida: im not swimming either

dazai: awww why not

kunikida: for some reason i dont feel safe getting in the ocean w/ u here

atsushi, startled: me? running away? haha... no i wouldn't

kunikida: atsushi, is everything all right? don't tell me you've decided to not participate in a company wide vacation?

atsushi: no! it's not that

dazai: you cant swim? but you fish me out all the time

atsushi: i know how to swim! i just... i don't really like water

dazai: is it becuz you're a cat?

kunikida and atsushi: he's/im a tiger

kunikida: atsushi don't tigers usually like water

atsushi: well... im not really a tiger... it's just my ability

kunikida: is it becuz dazai's here?he is a rather unsafe person to be near when you're also near wtaer

dazai: how cruel~ atsushi-kun i pinky promise i wont drown you~

atsushi: no! i mean obviously not haha... but you promise...?

kunikida: and to get you out of the water if you're in trouble

atsushi, having the time of his life, eyes sparkling, tail wagging: five more minutes!!

kunikida: you said that last time too...

dazai: atsushi-kun sure likes water

kunikida, fixing his glasses: we have to just grab him and run off quickly
