The whole Hunters-Of-Artemis thing. Like what do you mean Artemis hates all men. What about Orion and all the rest. What do you mean she hates Apollo. She loves him so much. Stop already. That whole thing was just erroneous interpretation of Greek Mythology and it felt really weird and toxic.
Annabeth and Percy's trauma bond. Annabeth is pretty toxic in a relationship, especially in the HoO books when she and Percy get together. Love their relationship as a concept but the way Rick writes it is just... not it. To show Annabeth as a "strong woman" he continuously makes her put Percy down - and not only in COTG and WOTTG. She literally judo-flips him when they met after that long traumatic period where Percy was suffering from amnesia and being killed so many times. I would love to see more of their dynamic as friends and make it a longer, healthier, equal-footed relationship.
Thalia Grace joining the Hunters and never leaving. What the hell. She only joined to escape the Great Prophecy 1. She can leave right after the Battle of Manhattan and take Percy's place in Great Prophecy 2.
Bianca being alive, only "lost" (never specified dead!). It's a pretty big plot-point for Nico and I think it would probably have a bigger impact on him to lose his only care-giver and watch her come back into his life after he's grieving greatly and he's in the process of learning how to live life without her. It would truly change up their entire systems and I would love to see Nico and Bianca coming to a point where they realize it's time to live their own lives. ALSO STOP TREATING BIANCA LIKE A PLOT-DEVICE FOR NICO. COME ON. DO BETTER.
Make Nico better. In general. The character has so much potential but is just reduced to "sunshine character's grumpy emo goth boyfriend" or "kid whose type is NOT PERCY HAHAHAHA SO FUNNY". Give him some more development.
LUKE WAS A GROOMER AND ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN HUMAN TRAFFICKING. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU JUST FORGIVE HIM AND NOT OCTAVIAN, WHO WAS LITERALLY BULLIED AND MANIPULATED INTO DOING THE SHIT HE DID. If you want to hate Luke, hate Octavian too. If you want to forgive him, forgive Octavian too. Stop hating complex characters.
CALEO. OH MY GOD CALEO. LIKE ACTUALLY DIE. THAT IS SO HORRIBLE.
Piper does not need to be gay.
Jason does not need to die.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN GROVER DID NOT USE HIS EMPATHY LINK TO SEARCH FOR PERCY IN TARTARUS. SMH.
Percy should NOT have become Praetor.
Reyna should not be aro/ace or she's just horrible representation of both those things. STOP PUTTING EVERY ARO/ACE CHARACTER IN THE HUNTERS OF ARTEMIS.
Why would Nico search for Bianca and bring Hazel back? That thing makes no sense. His whole arc in TLO was to accept the loss of his sister. Instead, bring out Ethan Nakamura who is still angry and jealous and wants to bring balance to the world. He comes out on his own, BTW.
The whole "Wilderness school" plotline thing. OF COURSE monsters would come for Pipes and Leo. They're really damn powerful and really damn young. What the hell do you mean by they never knew anything till Jason? smh.
SOLANGELO. CAN'T BELIEVE I'M SAYING THIS BUT IT'S OUT THERE. Will is just a blank character to show that Nico's gay and prove he's over Percy (STOP WITH THE "NOT MY TYPE" JOKES OH MY GOD GET OVER IT ALREADY WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU). If you're doing this, at least give me a good, long slow-burn. Or don't show it at all. Nico decides to live in normal life after being shunned and confused all his life in the magical world. Now he finds a mortal boyfriend and is actually thriving. His character is so beautiful like stop ruining him and using him as a goddamn plot-device all the time. Ugh.
CHANGE NICO'S COMING OUT SCENE! LITERALLY WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT.
Jason and Piper breaking up was such a good plot point because not everyone falls in love but you need to make it heart-wrenching. Jason doesn't know what's going on. He's just dating Piper because that's what he's being told, that's what he did his whole life. MAKE IT HAPPEN IN HOO.
NO FRAZEL AND LEO LOVE TRIANGLE. ALSO JUST NO FRAZEL IN GENERAL. STOP WITH THE FRAZEL. THAT'S SO UNHEALTHY.
MAKE LEO ARO/ACE GODDAMN. He has so much potential. Like he always feels loveless? Like a failure? Feels a need to have a partner to prove his worth? DIE. MAKE HIM ARO/ACE. MAKE HIM DEAL WITH ALL THAT.
Actually valgrace is a pretty good plot point as well. valdangelo as well.
WHY AREN'T THERE ANY POLY SHIPS IN PJO? SMH. SERIOUSLY. SO MUCH POTENTIAL.
Don't kill me but... perachel is pretty good. I've written a small post about it here.
Welp this is officially too long. Anyway. I wanted to add more but this has been sitting in my drafts and collecting dust a long time so here you go.
Hopper accidentally becomes the biggest ally in Hawkins out of hatred for Mike Wheeler. El wants to date Max? Perfect, Mike is terrified of Max. El wants to date Max and Lucas? Even better, more people to keep Mike away. Will comes out to Joyce and Hop? Hopper is immediately studying up on gay culture and flagging so he can find him a Hop ApprovedTM boyfriend. He sees that nice boy Gareth cuff his jeans one time and starts inviting him to family dinner. Mike seems annoyed that Steve is spending more time with Munson? A pamphlet titled “Accepting your Bisexuality” finds its way into Steve’s jacket pocket. Hopper has never seen Mike as furious as the day Steve and Munson arrive at dinner holding hands. It’s a good day. Hopper isn’t sure how Nancy dating the Buckley girl will annoy Mike, but he’s willing to give it a shot.
Hi can I ask what made you a big fan of Donald Duck?
Hi!! Great question. I think it was the fact that he's the most relatable out of the Sensational Six. That he was the first to be shown as a great adventurer (Scrooge was added later). I love his berserker rages and feats of physical strength.
That he's capable of so many badass feats and has so many just as badass alter-egos (superhero, secret agent, monster-hunter, ninja, mage).
That he's canonically served in both Army (during WWII no less) and Navy (in 1987 Ducktales).
That he's influenced so many things both in fiction (he's the reason for the expanded Duck universe in the comics, Indiana Jones, Inception, Star Wars, anime itself were all inspired by his Carl Barks comics) in addition to real world events too (University of Oregon's Fighting Ducks football team mascot was based off him).
And finally because he took in his three nephews when he didn't have to and tries his best to give them a good life.
This is a continuation of this post I made the other day: https://its-rat-time-babey.tumblr.com/post/682475975290880000/so-i-realized-something-about-hunter-you-know-how
———————————————————————————————————————
So I was thinking about how Hunter’s grimwalker physiology makes him immune to the boiling waters of the isles and I started thinking about just how different Hunter’s body must be compared to the average witch. So now I have a bunch of headcanons about the differences between Hunter and other witches. Here they are.
Hunter is extremely heavy and physically strong compared to a witch. A generally accepted headcanon I’ve seen is the fact that witches are very light and aren’t very strong physically when compared to a human, the most common reasons I’ve seen for this being:
The bile sack takes up quite a bit of space so other organs like the lungs and heart must be smaller and by extension weaker so the bile sack fits properly.
Witches have been relying on magic for their entire lives and just don’t need to rely on physical strength much.
Luz, who claims to have “weak nerd arms” was able to carry Amity like she weighed next to nothing.
So witches are pretty light and not very athletic compared to humans.
But now think about what grimwalkers are made of:
Selkidomus Scales for the skin. (Thick, fireproof, magic resistant and heavy).
Palistrom Wood used as keratin and probably cartilage as well, meaning fingernails, hair, nose, ears, and parts of the bone. (Wood is pretty darn heavy, especially when compared to actual keratin, cartilage and bones).
Gladorstones for providing power and serving as the heart. (gladorstones are rocks, and decently sized ones at that. You can’t tell me that they’re light).
Stonesleeper lungs serving as lungs. (Probably pretty heavy considering how big stonesleepers are and their ability to petrify themselves and live, but in the long run they’re just lungs. Massive Lungs that can turn into very heavy stone in the right conditions, but organic lungs nonetheless).
Bone of orlet. (Just bones. Nothing to say here).
Point is all the stuff used to create Hunter weighs a ton and since he’s made of that stuff, so is he. Luz can pick up a witch that’s around Hunter’s age and size like a sack of potatoes, but she struggles to lift Hunter an inch off the ground.
Secondly is Hunter’s physical strength. He stronk. Especially when compared to a witch. He doesn’t have any magic, but he’s got plenty of physical strength, and I have some proof of this.
At the end of hollow mind, Hunter runs out of the owl house. He just swings the front door open and runs. But the house was on lockdown and we were already shown that there were like four different latches on the front door alone. So that begs the question; how did Hunter open the door so easily?
The only obvious answer is that he forced the door open hard enough to break the latches. He broke four metal locks simultaneously in one single, fluid motion. He didn’t struggle or even seem to notice that he did it. So Hunter’s clearly got some serious muscle.
There’s also his staff and how he fights.
First of all, his staff is made from metal. This is because it uses artificial magic like Belos’s staff. But a heavy metal staff also plays into how Hunter fights.
Hunter seems to prefer fighting up close and personal and constantly tries to physically hit people with his staff as opposed to casting spells from a distance.
Makes sense when you think about it. Hunter can’t do magic on his own, but is incredibly strong, so physically hitting someone with a staff is easier and more effective than trying to cast magic.
Hitting someone with a heavy metal staff definitely does more damage than hitting someone with a lighter wooden one. Plus Hunter’s artificial staff is heavier on one end (the end with the crystal) than the other, allowing it to act a bit like a hammer or mace and do even more damage when used as a melee weapon, while wooden staffs are perfectly weighted in the centre with no end heavier than the other so spell circles can be created easier with them.
Hunter can’t use spell circles, so there’s no point in having his staff be optimized for making spell circles. And on top of all that, the winglike part of Hunter’s artificial staff can be used as a sort of axe blade, making it even more effective up close.
Having a heavy, unbalanced metal staff also makes it much harder for someone to steal it and use it against Hunter or other members of the emperor’s coven. The witch will be struggling to properly use the thing due to its weight and unbalanced centre of mass, while Hunter and his grimwalker strength can use it just fine.
Moving on from Hunter’s strength, here’s a couple of smaller headcanons:
Hunter’s lungs being stonesleeper lungs means that he can hold his breath for a very long time and has some pretty strong lungs overall. Stonesleepers basically hold their breath for the entire night since they petrify themselves when they sleep and un-petrify themselves in the morning. They need some insane lung capacity so they don’t suffocate. He can’t hold his breath forever, but he can hold his breath for just long enough for it to be unnerving for those around him.
Since Hunter is partially made from palistrom wood, and palismen are made from palismen wood, Hunter can understand and speak to palismen. Even palismen that he has no connection to. For example, Eda can talk to Owlbert and understand him because that’s her palisman, but she can’t understand Flapjack because Flapjack isn’t hers. Hunter can speak to Flapjack and understand him because Flapjack is his palisman, but he can also understand Owlbert just fine as well because he’s (partially) made of palistrom wood.
The combination of magic controling palistrom wood, magic focusing gladorstones and magic resistant selkidomus scales that make up Hunter’s body gives him a slight resistance to magic.
Hunter is immune to the boiling water of the isles and heat in general because of the Selkidomus scales used in his creation.
Hunter’s blood is neon green, just like the insides of a palisman. After being exposed to air for a few seconds, it turns blood red.
Moving on from those ones and onto something a bit more important, The gladorstone that (if the grimmwalker instruction book is correct) Hunter has instead of a heart that powers his body.
It literally says that the gladorstone is used for “heart and power” and unless it’s talking about heart in a metaphorical sense and Hunter’s non existent magic powers, it’s being used as a replacement for an organic heart and it’s also what powers Hunter’s body. I got two headcanons that take advantage of this fact.
Firstly, because he has no heart, Hunter has no heartbeat. If you put your head up to his chest, you’d instead hear the constant humming of the gladorstone that occupies the space where his heart should be.
Secondly, the gladorstone providing constant power to Hunter’s body means that he doesn’t need to eat, drink or sleep very often. He still needs all those things and does still get hungry, thirsty and tired, but at a far slower rate than a regular person.
Combine that with Hunter’s nonexistent sleep schedule and complete lack of self care and you get someone that can go for a full week without eating, drinking or sleeping and only start feeling the negative effects of it five days in.

I took a step back and reread what I wrote and I realized something.
Hunter:
Resistant to magic.
Physically stronger and more durable than most witches. Can overpower almost any witch in a physical fight. His staff is even designed to work alongside his physical strength.
Completely immune to the climate of the boiling isles, not caring about the rain and barely needing food and water. There is not a single place on the isles where this kid cannot survive.
Extremely large lung capacity and grimwalker endurance means that he can travel extremely long distances on-foot quickly and preform all sorts of athletic achievements without breaking a sweat. Making it harder to escape from him. The witch he’s pursuing will always tire out before he does.
Barely needs sleep, making it even harder to escape the golden guard.
Name is literally short for “Witch Hunter”
Hunter was built to be the perfect witch hunter. Emperor Belos was trying to make the boiling isles equivalent of the terminator.
"Percy gave up godhood for Annabeth, it was all for her-"
I'm sorry which fanfic are you getting this from? This is the passage in tlo:
Yeah. he looks at her. But he also thinks about Charles Beckendorf, Michael Yew, Silena Beauregard, Ethan Nakamura and Luke Castellan and everything they stood for. Everything they DIED for. And the says no BECAUSE OF THAT.
it wasn't a percabeth moment. it was a moment of standing up for what's right and changing a neglectful system to support kids with disabilities and kids that were being killed off by monsters. it's demeaning to Percy's character and misinterpreting the entire series to claim otherwise.
Musical prodigy Steve, who is way too casual about this gift. He plays seven instruments and could read sheet music before he could spell his own name, and literally never mentions it.
He has perfect pitch and can perfectly replicate a song he’s heard once on the radio. If you gave him an instrument he’s never played before and an hour, he’d made something beautiful out of it. And no one knows.
Well, some people know.
His mom still signs him up for recitals and performances out of state, but Steve never talks about it. He just says he has something to do with him mom that weekend, and then goes to preform in a concert hall in front of hundreds of people.
Honestly, Steve kinda assumed everybody was like that.
His parents never made it seem like it was a big deal. Hell, he doesn’t even consider that he could go to college for music (not that his dad would ever allow it). It’s basically a hobby.
It’s only after concussion number two when he’s sitting in English class listening to Eddie Munson complaining for a week straight about how he has an ‘epic vision’ for a ‘new song’ but it’ll never come to fruition because he’d need a full string orchestra.
And then another week listening to him hum the melody of the song.
And then a couple more days with the studio equipment that his parents got him for Christmas that Steve starts to think that maybe this ability isn’t all that common.
Eddie - still complaining - just stares at him with shock and confusion when Steve sits a cassette down in front of him and tells him to, “Stop talking.”
Honestly, that should be it, right? Steve has spent more effort making mix tapes than that cassette and those were barely a blip in the week so…
So, why is Eddie Munson confronting him at his locker the next morning? Eddie’s hands are all over the place like, “Did you really find and pay an entire orchestra to play my music just so I’d be quiet?”
“No,” Steve says slowly because that’s insane. “I played your music so you’d be quiet… it clearly didn’t work.”
“You can play…”
“Yeah?”
Eddie just stares at him like he’s something worth staring at and then asks seriously, “Do you want to be in my band?”
steddie where Eddie never lets anyone DM for him but Steve once ad libbed an npc during a campaign for a really stupid long life conversation with the party and Eddie realizes he’s actually a really good story teller and he lets Steve dm a one shot in his world and suddenly steve is obsessed
For the best viewing experience, use desktop and click through the frames. Some parts get a little confusing on mobile, but nothing you can't figure out.
Heyo, I got it done finally. Never mind the lack of backgrounds. Please reblog and leave notes for me to adoringly not know how to respond to.
More commentary under the cut to avoid clutter. (And edit notes)
EDIT- This has already circulated quite a lot already, but I added a line that I accidentally cut. (end edit)
I had gotten thinking about Avatar the Last Airbender when Zuko confronted Ozai during the eclipse invasion. Zuko gave a little speech, and I took that, made some alterations, and that's what this is.
This also expresses my desire for Hunter to be able to do magic now, because Flapjack is still there, just in a slightly different way.
The fully animated bit was honestly just supposed to be two frames, but I made some posing whoopsies and apparently fixing that required animation. Don't question my logic, it worked out in the end. I'll make a dedicated post for it later, so keep an eye out for that. I just want this to gain some traction first.
EDIT 2- There's now a separate post for just the gif. I also rearranged some paragraphs and altered the formatting in the commentary. Comic was not changed. (End edit)
