•Once Kunikida learned Atsushi had never had a good father figure he started subconsciously acting like one towards him, checking in on him, teaching him things, defending him, buying him things, taking time out of his schedule to make sure he’s alright, driving him places etc

•Atsushi has and will eat small animals if given the chance

•He really likes Tangled because he finds Rapunzels story relatable, and because he likes chameleons

•He is a really good artist, he used to draw whenever he could in the orphanage

•Atsushi has a reflex similar to a cat where he will slap someone if they surprise him, leading to him accidentally bitch slapping Dazai

•Atsushi has VERY strong teeth, one time Ranpo brought jawbreakers to work and gave Atsushi one, Ranpo then started talking to Yosano when they heard a loud *CRACK*, and just see Atsushi chewing on a jawbreaker as if it was taffy. Everyone just stared and Atsushi was confused. (Kunikida panicked)

•After he ate all that Chazuke in the first episode, he actually ended up vomiting because his stomach wasn’t used to that much to eat

•He used to bind with bandages, But when Kunikida found out, he taught him how to properly bind

•He chews on everything he can, strings, yarn, rubber, electrical cords, you name it. Atsushi is basically a cat in that sense, Kunikida has bought him teething toys for this

•Tanizaki and Atsushi are best friends, Tanizaki knows the most about what happened to Atsushi at the orphanage, and Atsushi knows the most about his insecurities

•One time Atsushi was falling asleep on the agency’s couch and nobody had the heart to wake him up, eventually he had to. So Kunikida shook him awake, and in a soft tone said, “Cmon kid, you need to get up.” Atsushi mumbled and replied, “Just five more minutes dad….” Needless to say Atsushi got a lot more than five minutes, and if Kunikida cried, nobody said anything

•One time Kunikida arrived at the agency(He’s usually the first one there, only to find Atsushi there already started on work) Kunikida was very proud of him and pat his head

•Yosano made it her goal to get Atsushi to stop apologizing for everything, every time he does, she will stare at him until he takes it back

•Kunikida teaches Atsushi math whenever they have time

•Atsushi can only get drunk/high if something has catnip in it

•One time Atsushi broke a glass object at Kunikidas house, and in a panic attempted to clean it up with his bare hands, Kunikida comforted him and made sure he was alright

•Sometimes if someone praises him or pats him he will purr

•When he gets over emotional sometimes his ears and tail will pop out

•Atsushi stress bakes

•He’s not that good of a swimmer(Never got proper lessons)

•He tends to cover his ears whenever things get loud

•He enjoys sitting in sunspots

•He could decimate anyone with insults, you insult someone he loves? He will absolutely DESTROY you

•Atsushis favorite number is the date he met Kunikida and Dazai

•Despite not liking physical touch he is a clingy drunk

•He doesn’t have a lot of pop culture knowledge, so Dazai set up annual movie nights to teach him

•Naomi, Tanizaki, Atsushi, and Haruno get together every Wednesday after work, and just mess around, it’s a double date of sorts (Haruno and Naomi are dating) and Tanizaki and Atsushi are pining for one another

•He has a quiet sneeze, because people at the orphanage would get mad if he was loud

•He likes sitting out in the rain, Kunikida scolds him for tracking in water, and raising the chance of him getting a cold

•He is oblivious to flirting, you have to be VERY forward to get him to notice, and when he does he turns into a flustered mess

•At the orphanage he would take on a parental/Big Brother role for the younger kids

•He figured out he was trans when he was 13, after an older kid told him about it

•He’s not that good of a cook, he can make the basics but other than that he’ll get lost

•He’s not very good at fashion

•He had two close friends at the orphanage, Roberto(I named him after the bird from Rio 2) and Yūki

•One day during a cold winter, Yūki was punished for accidentally breaking a vase, she was thrown outside in the cold with nothing but an old cloak. The next morning Atsushi and Roberto ran outside to look for her, they saw something In the snow, and when they got closer they realized it was Yūkis dead body, she had died of hypothermia

•Roberto faked his death and ran away after this, leaving Atsushi all alone. I like to believe he ended up somewhere in Yokohama

•Atsushi loves strawberries, the first time he tried them he couldn’t help but just scarf them all down

•He can eat raw meat

•He has religious trauma, everyday at the orphanage he would pray that he would become someone worthy of life

•After Shibusawas murder, the headmaster fed Atsushi bits of his body. Atsushi was confused at the fact he was given more to eat and more often. He thought that he finally earned his right to live. He is completely unaware that he did this

•Everyone at the agency takes turns teaching Atsushi different things

•He wants to learn how to play the flute

•He can’t whistle

•He can see in the dark

•He likes to draw on his skin

•He hates the way his eyes look

Is now a good or bad time to post about how Atsushi's Byakko is a metaphor for neurodivergency.

Headcanon that basically everything about Atsushi is incredibly vague.

Is this a guy ish looking girl or girlish looking guy? Meeting him for the first time everyone waits for someone to use a gendered term to refer to him instead of daring to guess

He simultaneously looks 15, 18, and 20 at the same time. Has been repeatedly served alcohol on accident multiple times but has also been mistaken for a kid in his first year of high school and has to flash his id like 3 times a day.

All members of the agency know that he’s been through a lot but no one really has the specifics. He’ll only drop tidbits of info when it’s relevant and won’t open up unless prompted to.

His ability is one of the most enigmatic things about him. Any questions he answers just leave’s everyone with more questions, so the agency has resorted to just being grateful that he’s on their side. Even people like Francis, Mori, Dazai, and Fyodor don’t quite understand everything.

Concept: Orange cat Atsushi

Aka Atsushi’s a regular tiger not a white one and that means he’s got orange cat behaviours.

Tigers don’t purr instead they chuff and as long as he’s not being actively traumatised Atsushi’s always chuffing.

Because he’s happy, happy to be with the Agency.

They find it quite soothing to hear and so whenever someone’s injured or afraid Atsushi will just curl up beside them and chuff.

Touch starved orphan that hates being left alone = clingiest little guy.

It’s something the Agency all has to get used too because they’re not really that affectionate touch wise.

Most of the time Dazai is the target because he will happily indulge him (probably because he’s also clingy as hell.)

If one tries to get away from Atsushi when he’s attached to them he will shriek until they come back.

Kunikida: Atsushi! That’s enough I have a very important meeting to get too.

Atsushi looks up at him all teary eyed.

And then Kunikida leaves carrying a very happy Atsushi with him and glares at anyone to comment.

Atsushi just likes being carried but he’ll always end up upside down and if you try and carry him properly he will jump off you.

Kenji has terrified many a person by happily walking through the streets carrying a giant happy tiger (tiger Atsushi doesn’t realise he’s a giant tiger and still demands to be carried.)

The Agency had rats once and everyone thought Atsushi might do something. No he was just on the sofa, rolled on his back and baking biscuits in the air without a care in the world.

Atsushi is easily started he will jump a foot in the air in fright if the wind blows too hard against the window. He will spend the rest of the day (or rather until he forgets what he was scared off) up on the bookshelves.

He can be bribed down with food though.

Atsushi is rarely ever still, even when he’s asleep or being carried he has to move. Ranpo gave him a fidget toy once and he played with it for 3 hours straight.

The first time Atsushi saw Chuuya floating around he tackled him midair. He then immediately lost interest when Chuuya was on the ground and thus not floating anymore.

Dazai laughed his arse off and filmed the whole thing. And then Chuuya used his ability to get Atsushi off him and then you had Atsushi spinning about like the happiest little guy.

Chuuya: There’s something wrong with this kid.

Dazai: How dare you, Atsushi is a wonderful and amaz- oh shit he’s going blue. Atsushi! Remember to breathe!

Chuuya: How the fuck do you forget how to breathe?!

Dazai: He has a lot going on okay.

Atsushi and Piano man related headcannon

(@jisforj55 asked for more, had a fun idea so an attempt was made. This is just my take on it)

"Oh! You guys are gonna wanna hear this!" Called Albatross, walking over with Atsushi on his shoulders. "Oh? Are you going to admit to cheating at billiards earlier?" Asked Lippmann with a smirk.

"I have no idea what you’re talking about" said Albatross feigning confusion. He picked up Atsushi and gently set him on his feet before him.

"Our little goose has made a wonderful discovery and he’d like to share it with you all" he explained. Atsushi ducked his head shyly now everyone’s attention was on him.

Albatross ruffled his hair and gave him double thumbs up "you’ve got this!" He cheered.

Atsushi, with renewed confidence looked up at his uncle, who like everyone else had stopped what they were doing to listen. "You’re a superhero" said Atsushi, smiling brightly.

The flags were stunned (cept Albatross) and none more so than Piano man. He’d been called many things in his life but that was certainly a new one.

"Why do you think that, Atsushi?" He asked, curiously. "Chuuya was showing me a comic yesterday. It was about a superhero but I didn’t what that was so he told me. He said they save people who are scared and hurt and have cool powers.

And you saved me when the bad people got me. You help me when I’m scared and you have cool powers." Explained Atsushi, in that earnest way only children seemed to manage.

And not a second later was he pulled into Piano man’s arms into a warm hug. "Oh Atsushi" how could one so kind exist in a world so cruel and cold. "I am honoured to be your superhero" he was something far far more sinister to the rest of the world.

But here in Old World he was a colleague, a friend and an uncle. He would do anything for them. And if his little adorable nephew thought his uncle was a superhero. Than Piano man would be his superhero.

It was as simple as that.

Atsushi smiled, beckoning his uncle closer so he could whisper something to him.

Which he did, in a slightly quieter voice than usual so suffice to say everyone heard it. "It’s also because you get called Piano Man. Like superman but with piano’s."

Piano man chuckled, as did the others. "A keen observation, I’d expect nothing less of my little forger in the making."

"Hey, would that make a superhero too, little star?" Asked Lippman, smiling delightfully when Atsushi nodded.

(Chuuya walks in, hears Lippman call himself the amazing super Lippmann, while wearing a mask and cape and promptly walks back out.)

Did I ever tell you about my head cannon that byako is a female tiger because the animators never animated the shef that irl male Tigers have.

So if Atsushi takes on byakos attributes during his partial transformation dose that mean he has a vagina in is weretiger form?

OK, so that's interesting. As far as I'm aware, Byakko doesn’t have a confirmed gender (I've seen people stating that Byakko is female in canon, but I couldn’t find any sources supporting that in canon at all; some people just treat it as such). I’ve also seen people say Atsushi refers to Byakko as male, but I didn’t find proof of that either. So, either the animators and the mangaka overlooked that detail, or they did so on purpose, either to keep the gender ambiguous or to hint that Byakko is actually a female tiger. Either way, your interpretation is totally valid.

If we go with the idea that Byakko is female, then it raises the question of how far Atsushi’s transformation actually goes. Does he take on all of Byakko’s physical attributes—not just the claws, fur, and fangs? If so, it’s possible his anatomy could shift to match hers. But since he’s never shown to fully transform (always keeping some human traits, except in episode 1), it’s hard to say if the transformation would extend that far.

So, I guess the real question is whether Atsushi just turns into any tiger or if he actually pulls from Byakko’s “DNA” and straight-up takes on Byakko’s body. But assuming that is the case... ENBY ATSUSHI!?

Atsushi was chosen to be transferred to the Port Mafia. He's now isolated from everyone but Akutagawa and is desperately clinging to his sense of self. Atsushi falls his knees with tears in his eyes at the end of another emotionally exhausting day. It's only been a week and he doesn't know how much longer he can keep this up. If something doesn't change Mori will break him down and remake him in the Mafia's image.

At his lowest point, he asks himself the question he always asks when he feels backed into a corner: What would Dazai do? Immediately, the simplest solution falls into his lap. He would just act like Dazai...

... specifically, the way Dazai acts in the ADA office turned up to 11.

Atsushi would be too disruptive to rely on but too effective to punish. And if he was punished, he would take the pain while the tiger undid the damage. Satisfied with his plan, Atsushi goes to bed feeling lighter than he'd felt since he'd been dragged away from his family.

And so began the most stressful three weeks of Mori's Port Mafia career.

Atsushi: "Oh that? I guess there was a full moon last night. I must've transformed and used it as a scratching post. Sorry, that happens sometimes now that Fukuzawa's ability isn't helping to control Beast Beneath the Moonlight.

PLZ tell me some chuuatsu headcanons I love collecting themmmmmm

Also I totally agree with everything you said on their dynamic-- I've recently been exposed to way too many new ships (chuuatsu, kunichuu, kunichuuzai... etc etc), and I have fallen in love with chuuatsu and kunichuu bro😭 they have my HEART.

That's so real, BSD ships overall slay the majority of the time. Kunichuu is also a good one! Overall, I need Chuuya to be more in BSD; he needs to meet more people, smh.

But going over to the headcanons I have 👀

They technically don’t argue a lot, but they bicker constantly, specifically when Chuuya’s temper flares up and Atsushi doesn’t back down once he’s pushed too far (although it is more of a playful and sassy fight rather than actual arguments between them). They don’t hold grudges specifically because of that, as it is playful or, in the end, leads to breakthroughs in their own relationship.

They're very much "the opposites attract." Atsushi’s quiet and reflective nature overall often calms Chuuya down, while Chuuya’s boldness pushes Atsushi out of his comfort zone. They’re chaotic together, but it does balance out nicely.

Nicknames. Just nicknames. Chuuya has a horrendous habit of giving Atsushi the worst nicknames ever, and Atsushi pretends to hate it (even whining about it), but he does secretly find it endearing.

Sass everywhere. Sometimes it feels like a sass battle between the two, as Chuuya DOES use sarcastic and sassy remarks, which Atsushi isn’t scared to push back against with his own.

Chuuya wants to treat Atsushi to expensive dinners for dates. It never works. Atsushi’s simplistic nature means that while Chuuya plans for expensive dates, Atsushi always manages to get them to eat something cheap but delicious at the end of the day. The older can’t complain, though, as he does, in the end, enjoy it and even finds it endearing. Not that he’s about to admit it to anybody else.

If they live together, or Atsushi stays over for the night, Chuuya is usually a "morning grump," while Atsushi is always functional in the morning (waking up at 5 a.m. is wild, but at the same time, I get you, Atsushi... I used to have to stand up that early too a few years back). Atsushi loves to tease Chuuya about his bed head and his refusal to even speak before he drinks something.

They actually have tea times. Especially since, after some time, Atsushi developed a habit of brewing tea when Chuuya is stressed, so it became somewhat of a bonding ritual for them.

It’s not often they have missions together, but with the whole PM and ADA alliance still intact, it does happen on very rare occasions. After those missions, Chuuya sometimes drapes his jacket over Atsushi’s shoulders without really saying a word, while the other wordlessly sits beside him, offering a hand for him to hold if Chuuya looks upset.

While Atsushi is still too young to drink for now, he does somewhat pick up on Chuuya’s drinking habits. He doesn’t drink actual alcohol, usually settling on something like a soda or sparkling juice, sitting with Chuuya during his wine-drinking nights just so he can keep him company. Chuuya, in fact, appreciates the gesture a lot more than he’s willing to admit.

Atsushi isn’t stupid. He knows full well about Chuuya’s insecurities, which is why he subtly compliments Chuuya during casual conversations when he can tell Chuuya is feeling down on a particular day.

They both adopted a stray cat. It’s not to Chuuya’s ideals, as he did want a dog, but he will settle on a stray cat, which Atsushi just brings one day into the apartment... It then happens a few more times, so now they have 2–3 stray cats. Chuuya acts annoyed about it, but he does end up spoiling them with fancy treats and cozy beds.

So yeah! That’s them haha.
