This Love

Claire sighed as she stared at the screen in front of her. Six told her not to watch the security tapes, just in case something happened. Well, he didn’t say why, but she figured that was the reason.

She remembered the day he left her and she huffed and shook her head. She remembered bits and pieces after she fell asleep, it was almost as if she had lucid dreamed it. She thought back to the day they met, as if he’d stepped out of a 007 movie.

Clear blue water

High tide came and brought you in

And I could go on and on, on and on and I will

She knew she would get attached to him from the moment he stepped inside. She was a lonely girl, she craved any and all human contact other than her nurse and Donald. She was so isolated… so alone. But with Six it was like she had a best friend, and…. And a Dad.

Skies grew darker

Currents swept you out again

And you were just gone and gone, gone and gone

Then he left. He left after the job, but promised he’d still swing around. She could hardly believe how lucky she’d gotten to have actually earned his affection. Not many CIA agents were friendly, but he’d been nice from the beginning, if a little awkward.

In silent screams and wildest dreams

I never dreamed of this

She knew she would get attached, but she often wondered how he felt about the time they met. What had been going through his head that entire time? Back when she collapsed, he hadn’t hesitated to act. It was all fuzzy from there, but she could feel the vibrations of his running feet on the ground as soon as she hit the floor.

This love is good, this love is bad

This love is alive back from the dead, oh-oh, oh

These hands had to let it go free, and

This love came back to me, oh-oh, oh

Ever since he left the house after that, she was afraid of the dark. She hadn’t been before, but after watching him fight the intruder and then to have her safety net leave afterward, knowing people were out in the dark waiting? She kept a light with her to keep herself alert at night whenever she got up.

Lantern, burning

Flickered in my mind, only you

But you were still gone, gone, gone

She thought about him everyday, even spoke to him in her head as his voice would reply with whatever she thought he would say. He was that kind of figure for her. He became her security alert instead of alarm bells going off in her head, she would hear his voice. It was stupid she always thought. He probably didn't even give her a second thought after he left.

Been losing grip on sinking ships

You showed up just in time

Just as she was spiraling one night into her endless rabbit hole of thoughts he’d showed up in the middle of the night.

She had been shocked to see him, thinking he had lied about coming around just to get her off his back. She wouldn't have blamed him, she was just a little kid after all, he had no obligation towards her after his job was finished.

She guessed he must've seen it because he had just chuckled.

“I told you I would swing by.”

That was the first night he stayed over, she would always remember it. Just like she would always remember his last night there.

This love left a permanent mark

This love is glowing in the dark, oh-oh, oh

These hands had to let it go free, and

This love came back to me, oh-oh, oh

She genuinely hadn’t seen it coming. Then she was worried. Did she do something? Was something wrong with her?

Your kiss, my cheek, I watched you leave

Your smile, my ghost, I fell to my knees

She faintly remembered him pressing a soft kiss to her forehead once more before sleep fully claimed her. When she woke up she imagined him walking out her door, and it hurt her even more.

She brought herself back to the night he smiled at her, not a strained smile or like the one he gave her at the pool, but a soft half smile, his eyes softened into an emotion she hadn’t seen on him until then. She had wanted more of it. Affection. Not just anybody’s, his.

When you're young, you just run

But you come back to what you need

He left, for her safety, he said. What he didn’t realize was that she felt safer with him than without him.

When she got kidnapped she had been terrified, and she couldn’t help but be hurt even more that Six wasn’t there to protect her anymore. But he couldn’t have known, he probably had forgotten about her, she reasoned with herself.

But then his face emerged from the doorway and when their eyes locked he winked at her.

This love is good, this love is bad

This love is alive back from the dead, oh-oh, oh

These hands had to let it go free, and

This love came back to me, oh-oh, oh

He came back to her.
