ah, this bat
this particular species has such a wide range of visual appearances it's nuts. from various shades of brown with mild frosting to extra value-brand hoary or red bat.

Part 2 of flapflap friends, for anyone who might have wanted to see the little guy actually flap. Bats have very neat locomotion! (Also, for any nervous parties, I’m vaccinated against rabies and this little guy’s mouth did not come near my bare skin at any point. I took a glove off to shoot this video, which i wasn’t supposed to do, but there was very low risk here.)
A hungry silverhaired flapflap is fed by a very bad volunteer who didn’t wear a glove like she is supposed to. Don’t tell her boss.

I now wonder if this could be a reason why this species was the go-to victims whenever Kenneth Oppel/the writers of the cartoon series needed a bat to get chewed on/munched.
Just, a tangential connection in their minds between adorable cinnamon puffball bats and frosted cinnamon timbits/donuts.
after accidentally on purpose scoundrelposting for like 7 hours straight yesterday i feel like it's vital to remind the class that despite all of their horrors and drama they ARE destined to turn into this thing.
they are 3 inches big. they have goofy little eyes. they prey heavily on moths. their lifespan is 2 years long and they are extremely vulnerable to death by wind turbine. just something to keep in mind here
so tiny; yet robust and strong.
I'm not well. But this voidbat helps keep the other void at bay.

Last night on our way home from performing in a play, my housemates and I noticed this sleepy little red bat on a city windowsill.
Today we came back to the theater to perform the Sunday matinee and she was on the ground. :(
I scooped her up in a shirt and put her back on the windowsill (never touch a bat with your bare hands). She was still there after the show so now we are taking her to the wildlife rehabber.
