Ms. Crush and Mrs. Love

When a person is under a crush they may feel like boulders are weighing on their chests. Ms. Crush may whisper in a person's ear "That stranger is the dove among pigeons, the demigod among men, the knight among villagers. Well, I bet my bottom dollar, that he would rescue you of any dangerous situation. I mean look at that hair and those amazing eyes. But he might see you as a mere mortal, not worth his godliness, a laughing stock among his pride." She turns and speeds her talk, shouting at the person, "No! You must look your finest to him. You must flaunt him with your every charm. But when things go south. Well... I can't help you. I'll have to leave because I live in only perfection. A peasant to princess story you see. Let me know how it goes."

Meanwhile, when a person sees all the other people for who they are. Flaws, strengths, activities, and feels calmness around them that is love. Mrs. Love would say in a gentle quiet tone. "That person whom you care about is amazing. He might be an average Joe or Janet, but they're your Joe or Janet. They have traits you enjoy, like compassion, kindness, stability, and many more. The list goes on. They also have flaws that you don't like." She asks to sit down next to the person and continues in an understanding quiet voice, "Like them biting their nails or their height, but you learn that their flaws help you enjoy things you never thought you had. Like reaching to the high shelf for them and looking at how adorable they are. Or how they enjoyed that horror fic from last night, and you knew from them biting their nails. You two have the most unique love lives. Even though you argue about where to place the toaster or how to do laundry, you two figured it out in the end. Whether it may be a compromise or a third idea you make it through. Your guys' love life is not a movie or fairytale but it has a good feel to it. It is an ever-changing feel and mental state for you. You constantly learn from each other every day and support one and the other in happiness and sadness. Now, if you have problems between now and next Saturday, call me. I'm always available."

Even though a crush can form into love, It takes time, learning, growth, and consistency to make anyone fall in love.

So, Disney, when are we gonna have an accurate love movie that is good, again? Like, come on, Man.

Signs, signs everywhere a sign

My previous post about unusual signs was just scratching the surface, strange English can be found in a variety of places such as on t-shirts, menus or bags. Here are a couple more examples (courtesy of my acquaintance WM).

Signs, Signs Everywhere A Sign

This sign is very near in their communication but it just feels very... well... generated using Google Translate or Weblio (my bane, some of the translations from this site have confounded me over the years). The most glaring error is the phrase, "what a so tasty". Why the heck is the 'a' in there? And it just doesn't work. It should be "What a tasty treat!" or simply, "How tasty." If I were to make this more natural I would probably say, "Congratulations! You have selected one of our shop's most popular treats. We are dedicated to seeing our customers' happy faces as they say, "How tasty!" We will never give up on our pursuit of making tasty treats. We are only satisfied if our customers are and we extend all of our efforts with the hope of seeing our customers' smiles. We are looking forward to your next visit." With a little more time I would smooth it out even further and leave your foreign guests feeling welcome with your strong and natural English.

Signs, Signs Everywhere A Sign

With this sign, they really tried and again were not far off the mark. The section about the 'batch setting system' is a little awkward, I would change that sentence to say, "The air conditioning system is controlled centrally, so you are unable to adjust the temperature yourself." And the last part used 'fade away' when it should probably be 'turn off', so it should read- ' the green lamp will turn off when you push the power button and turn off the air conditioner. The monitor will also automatically turn off after a short time. '

Clear communication contributes to your branding and helps your foreign guests feel confident in your company. If you don't have the time and you want a native speakers input at a reasonable cost, we can help!

I have nothing more to add about the context of this film as this post accurately connected all the beautifully complexities of this film and what creates a new version of PTSD ( Complex PTSD) what I will add, is how I hate that I’ve been unable to secure this film and rewatch it

Bang Bang You’re Dead

Bang Bang You’re Dead

I loved this film! It was very different to the other films, especially the ending which I thought was very satisfying. A very troubled and outcast teenager struggling to cope with high school after he is suspended for planting a fake bomb in the school. The best part of this film, by far, was an uncomfortable scene in which teachers, the principle and the teen’s parents were forced to watch a home video of all the bullying that goes on in the school. If I was at that school, I probably would have wanted to shoot them all too.

The film is based on the play of the same name , which I assume is just as good.

5 Flights Up

I saw this movie at home, privately probably within a year after it came out. I loved it instantly for all three stories that it told. The first story, about the older couple (played by Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton) showed an accurate couple that I enjoyed. As a couple, they were overall happy and healthy and dealing with walking up a few flights as you get older in New York is a pretty realistic problem that people often don’t think about. Also, they individually and not just as a couple were likeable people. Second, is the issue with their dog (Dorothy) who they will need to pay $10,000 for a surgery for her that *may* work. Ugh, is that not something that happens all the time, especially at that cost. A famous story of my youth is when we paid close to two hundred dollars (at a major discount) to go to an emergency clinic for my hamster/guinea pig where the veterinarian didn’t even notice one eye was reed and close to 3x the size of the other.

While both of these stories were accurate, the one that really blew this out of the water for my family was the third, albeit random, story about the truck driver and its accuracy in our world. It starts just with a truck abandoned (in grid-lock traffic at first) on a bridge. They discover that it was driven by someone who is not a white guy and reports come out before anything actually happens that they think there is a bomb (even thou rush hour has passed and there has been no explosion) and his name and face are all over the news, followed I believe by his home being investigated by the police (who the fuck signed that warrant).

As this story progress I watch, with complete real-world experience, my guess is that he might have just ran out of gas and gone to get some—because they were stuck on a bridge for hours. But then why didn’t he come back…I don’t know, maybe because within a short time he was plastered all over the news as a terrorist (white upbringing v. non-white upbringing) he’s petrified now with no ACTUAL reason or understanding he’s been labelled a terrorist and NYCs #1 to look out for. In the end, I don’t think we get the story of what actually happened from reports, but come to know that he wasn’t a terrorist—typical.

5 Flights Up

Now all of these things are random, but they are also realistic to happen in a random weekend, look at the news today, so much happens before 6am let alone over a weekend and that’s what this is, just a snapshot of their lives over a few days. Maybe more dramatic than their average weekend, but not completely out of bounds and in contrast to stories that cover years or longer events, that are also good, a story that just covers a couple of days and isn’t focused on the “big events” of getting married, or losing someone— I really loved it.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Cure of the Black Pearl

It’s a little ridiculous, and it’s been a while so I can’t say for sure, but the original Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is one of my favourite movie stories of a romantic relationship because the relationship between Will and Elizabeth that is, actually tolerable.

While much of this might be due Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth that curses, is dominant, assertive in the film and in her own life, their relationship seemed like a better understanding than is what usually portrayed in stories (fiction and non-fiction). Friends, with a real partnership who happen to be romantically involved where neither acts better than the other and both feel the other is better than them.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Cure Of The Black Pearl

*Shout out also to Knocked-Up and This is 40 stars, Pete and Debbie
