me: hmm it is a nice day. as i am filled with hubris, i will go outside and sit :)
every bug in the universe at once: crawl?????? for to crawl???????
As a woman, I gotta say, nerds and “nice guys” create the most awkward situations.
Ive been given a diamond bracelet by someone who I only knew by their D&D name.
Another guy gave me a birth stone necklace after I’d just had a break up and just couldn’t understand why I needed time
Ive come home from a late night of studying to find a guy sitting beside my apartment door at 11pm. He’d “been waiting for hours” and “just wanted to see me.” (I don’t have to tell you how scary it is to see a grown man in an empty hallway when you are all by yourself.)
Ive had a guy send me 1000+ text messages…which started as a conversation about cartoons, turned into a love confession, then turned into him calling me a bitch
Not to mention the ones with jungle fever whose wet dream is not only a “nerd girl” but an “exotic nerd girl.” (“exotic” is just a cute word for fetishizing women of color)
And ALL of these men were self proclaimed “nice guys.” But what they don’t understand is that what they consider “nice” is usually creepy. You are a grown ass man. Waiting outside for hours is horrifying to women. Giving gifts and expecting sex in return is not a “nice” thing to do. I just wish “nice guys” would realize that the things they think are chivalrous and romantic are straight up horrifying and sociopathic. They think their loner status deserves some kind of sympathy and I should be greatful for the attention. But if they saw things from the female perspective they’d realize that that kind of behavior is literally stalking and bribery
A big excuse i hear when i talk about things not being accessible to disabled people is “well it wasnt on purpose. They just didnt think of it like that” or “they didnt do it cause they hate disabled people, they just forgot”
When i complained about how into the spider-verse, along with other movies, has flashing lights that caused seizures and has no made it so disabled people cant even be safe watching a movie, it was “oh well, they didnt mean to make it that way! They just didnt know. You cant hate them for not knowing” despite the fact this is a hugely common complaint made towards movies, especially action movies, and theres almosy always papework they need to fill out for safety precaution.
Or when i complained that there will be places that have three sets of stairs but no ramp or elevator, i got “well its not that they dont want disabled people there, they just didnt think to put one in”
Or when disabled people who play video games went to twitter and brought up the fact many are not safe and the controllers arent as accessible as they should be, they were slammed with the excuse “well how were people supposed to know disabled people played video games?”
The list goes on. And what people dont get is that not knowing isnt an excuse, forgetting us isnt an excuse, excluding us simply because you didnt think to include us isnt an excuse for excluding us.
Ignorant ableism is still ableism, accidental ableism is still ableism and theres no excuses anymore.
You cant just “accidentally” forget disabled people exist, you cant just make a whole movie using lights that, for decades, have been criticized for being life threatening to disabled people and then have fans defend it with “well they didnt know”. You cant just say “its okay that this franchise made a dangerous video game and this corporation made consol after consol not accessible because they didnt think disabled people could play video games, and have that be a valid excuse.
Theres no valid reason why disabled people cant watch movies, go to places, and play games without it being accessible and safe, theres no valid reason to forget we exist.
Theres no valid reason to not include us, theres only ableist reasons. And sometimes that reason is “they hate disabled people” and other times its “they forgot about disabled people cause they never bothered to remember” or its “they didnt think to include disabled people because they dont care”.
Stop excusing this shit.
Cleaning the oceans one step at a time
Two Australians created this container that collects plastic, paper, oil, fuel and detergent floating in the ocean. They want to implement it the middle of next year to clean up the sea worldwide. It seems a great idea. The only “but” as always is money, so they are raising funds to get to their goal. You can see their project and donations here.
mr. darcy: i love you. most ardently.

btw… important PSA: cutting off the mold on the surface of food does nothing. you can only see the spores on the surface, but mold itself has spread and grown roots into the food. by the time you can actually *see* the spores, that piece of food is completely full of it. youre still eating mold.
many of which are poisonous and have been shown to cause cancer. youre not even supposed to sniff it, because that can get spores into your lungs. like if you look up the health and safety guidelines for mold they barely stop short of telling you to put on a hazmat suit.
like produce is okay as long as you cut around it at least an inch, but cooked foods? you gonna die. stop eating mold people
This fake yarn is supposedly better for sheep.
So any garment you wash will release microfibres into the sea. It’ll never decompose.
You’re supposed to believe that sheep shearing is violent and cruel. There are imbeciles out there that work in an unprofessional manner while shearing, but that’s not the case overall.
Sheep don’t suffer from having their fleece removed.
Left on, the fleece can become a home for fly eggs and the subsequent maggots which can eat the sheep. Chemical treatments are available to prevent that happening. It’s much better for the sheep, the land and the farmer to avoid chemical use.
Don’t be fooled. Wool is a sustainable material, one we should make more and better use of.
DM: “The orc captain fires his bow, and…that’s a hit. And he rushes, and…hit. And, bonus move, and…oh jeez that’s a *big* hit. I’m sorry, man.”
Player, sadly pulling out a fresh character sheet: “Eh, it’s alright. I guess in the next act y'all are gonna meet Boromir’s brother Faramir.”
