I'm genuinely convinced that Sepp's win at La Vuelta 2023 is one of the greatest sport stories in recent years.

The domestique who becomes leader; the two leaders - two monumental champions - who are trying to make history become top-tier domestiques.

He's showered with love by the whole world, regardless of whoever people support or whichever team one likes. It's extraordinary.

I think we can leave behind social media drama because some people know no limits and are unable to express their opinions without attacking others - in this case, riders and team members who were trying to do their jobs in the best possible way.

It all started by chance for sure, but it got bigger and bigger. What Sepp did was huge, majestic, exceptional and well deserved. He never crumpled. He hung on. He rode the best TT of his life. He stayed close to the best.

Of course, on paper he might have never made it with a third party involved in the GC contention - possibly Remco. Of course, his leaders were probably the best, the strongest, those with better legs. And yet, this feels right.

Sports are about coincidence; sports are about luck, fortunate conjuction of stars. Team sports are about unwritten rules that have been engraved in tradition and history. To me, this is beautiful.

I do feel for Primož, for his chance to get the La Vuelta record, for the years that are passing by and the chances that are slipping away. I do feel for Jonas: it could have been a huge step towards the goal of winning all the GTs and who knows whether he'll get the chance to win La Vuelta again. We can never take anything for granted.

But history will remember what they did.

History will remember the winners of the three GTs; it will remember the leaders who worked for the most loved - and probably the best - domestique in the world; it will remember the way they put their ambition aside to give something back to the man who gave everything to bring them to the top of the world.

Back in 2020, Sepp said: 'Right now, I can't imagine myself being a GT contender'.

Three years later, in his third GT of the year (crazy stuff!), this is what we got.

Bask in this glory, Sepp. Enjoy this win. You earned it. You deserve it.

yeah this. like can’t you just enjoy watching two of the most talented/versatile cyclists of all time racing each other ? Enjoy the rivalry it won’t last forever. And it’s clear that Wout wants to win the classics and do the giro, cx is not his main focus this season and the fact that he ends up on podium in spite of not chasing victories say so much about his qualities…

Can people just for once leave him alone ??
