A/N: I was pleasantly surprised when so many people wanted another part to this! I wasn’t planning on another part but here we are! Also, I included some slight Gavin x Reader in the story because it fit with where it was going.
Warnings: Swearing
“Sir, I can’t work with Conner anymore.”
Fowler didn’t even look up from his work as he scribbled away, signing endless amounts of papers. “Which one?” He asked, the pen in his hand pausing. “Conner…?” Reading glasses were perched on the bridge of his nose, his eyes moving to finally stare back at you, silently telling you he didn’t know which android you meant.
“O-Oh! The one with an E. The RK900.” You trailed off, nervously wringing your hands as your palms became clammy. You really wished you didn’t have to been in this situation right now.
The head of the DPD took the glasses off his face, throwing them carelessly on the desk before leaning back in his chair with a heavy sigh. This was probably the first time his attention was off paperwork in hours. “And – why exactly? You seemed fine before so what changed?” He shrugged, throwing his hands up slightly for emphasis.
Well, you had multiple reasons. Being Conner’s partner meant that you witnessed everything he did when it came to solving cases. Most of them not exactly being very police-like. But, you weren’t trying to get him deactivated, taken apart, or whatever the hell they did to androids at CyberLife. You just wanted nothing to do with him any longer.
“Sir, Conner has been-“ You halted your sentence abruptly, thinking your complaint through. You couldn’t tell him about the kiss between the two of you. Actually, you could and go into explaining how Conner only did it to save yourselves from being caught hiding a deviant body that he killed. Then, you could tell him how you tried to deepen the kiss, only for the android to pull away and reject you bluntly thus making you stomp off in anger.
So, really, you were standing in Fowler’s office because Conner rejected you and you didn’t like that.
Fowler rolled his eyes, leaning forward in his chair. “Well?” He asked expectantly, waiting for your answer.
You glanced around the room, shifting the weight on your legs while trying to find a way out. “Conner has been-“ You began again, drawling out the last word, thinking of what you were going to say.
“For heaven’s sake, (L/N)! Spit it out!
“Conner has been a loyal partner and he’s great at his job!” You said all in one breath, immediately regretting your decision.
There was a loud burst of laughter from outside the office before it was quickly silent again as if the person caught themselves. You turned around expecting to see someone, but there wasn’t anybody. Slowly, you twisted back around to see Fowler’s annoyed expression.
“So, you can’t work with Conner anymore because he’s a loyal partner and he’s great at what he does? Am I hearing that right, (L/N)?”
You hesitated, giving him an awkward smile. “Yes?”
Another laugh from outside.
Fowler simply pointed to the door, returning his attention back to his paperwork. “Get the hell out of my office.”
“Yes, sir.” You quickly ducked your head down, hiding your face in embarrassment while shuffling out of the room. As you walked away, heading towards your desk, a figure popped out from behind a corner.
“(Y/N)!” They screamed, only a few inches from your face.
You practically jumped ten feet into the air at the sudden movement. “FUCK-“ You yelled, becoming quieter while leaning over with one hand on your knee with the other over your chest. You took a deep breath, attempting to ease your heart. “Don’t do that!”
Gavin’s hand patted your back, laughing extremely hard until becoming red in the face. “Th-That was so damn sad!”
You whipped your head up to stare at him, roughly shoving him away from you. “You were the one who was laughing while I was in there!?” You pushed him again with everyone around you acting like they didn’t see it. “Stop listening in, you creep!”
The man was wheezing, desperately trying to catch his breath as he continued to mock you. “Oh-Oh, sir! Conner’s so great and wonderful and strong and-“
Groaning, you pushed passed his shoulder to continue your journey back to your desk.
“(Y/N)! Wait, wait, wait!” Gavin said, running back in front of you, blocking your path again (much to your annoyance). “Why were you trying to get rid of plastic prick’s twin brother? I mean, don’t get me wrong, you always know who you can go to for a partner.” He gestured up and down to himself.
You pretended to think about it for a bit. “Yeah, I think I’ll pass.” You went to move again but Gavin continued to cut you off.
“You’ll come around.” He smirked at the look you gave him. “But, still. Why were you trying to get rid of it? Because, I want in.”
Whenever there was something just slightly off about an android, Gavin was the first one to immediately try to find out about it. It was a classic attempt of sabotage. You shook your head at his antics, just wanting to be left alone. “He’s not an ‘it’, Gavin. How many times do I have to tell you?”
Gavin made a move to reply but his eyes looked up at the figure standing tall behind you. Grimacing, he glanced back to you. “Yeesh, get rid of the fuckin’ guard dog. Who let that in?”
Knitting your eyebrows together at the rhetorical question, you spun around, meeting face-to-face with the RK900. It was more face-to-chest considering the height difference, but your face went stone cold when your gaze met his, not wanting to be around him either. His face was blank as well, showing no emotion whatsoever.
“There’s a new case.” Conner said, his voice still as monotonous as the day before. “It would be best to leave as soon as possible to-“
“Nope.” You interrupted, popping the ‘p’. “You can find someone else to help you out.” You patted his chest before walking away, Gavin’s obnoxious laughter echoing across the whole floor.
The android’s blue eyes glared at the wheezing man next to him before his laughter died down. Gavin leered back, crossing his arms. “Stay the fuck away from her, got it? She wants nothing to do with you.” He noticed how Conner’s stare became even colder. “Yeah, I heard her. Tried to get rid of you as a partner for some reason. Any idea what that might be, plastic detective?” He whispered, a nasty smirk on his face.
Conner chose to ignore his taunts, staring straight forward as Gavin circled him like he was prey. “I suggest getting back to work, Detective Reed.” The android said, side-eyeing the man. “You’ve distracted yourself long enough.”
Gavin scoffed, nodding before approaching the RK900. “Don’t think for onegoddamn second,” He sneered through his teeth. “ - that I won’t kill you myself if I ever see you making some type of fuckin’ – programmed advances towards her.” He casually shoved Conner as he passed by before looking over his shoulder once more. “She is not your equal.” He whispered, glaring before beginning to stroll away.
“Detective Reed,” Conner called out, still standing in his spot. He turned his head to the side, so he could see the man within his peripheral vision. Gavin halted, turning around to look at him with his hands in his pockets. “Jealousy doesn’t look good on you.”
Gavin turned away, but not before muttering the word ‘prick’ under his breath then walking back to his desk.
Conner, feeling satisfied with himself, made his way over to where you were sitting. His tall presence loomed over you causing the pen in your hand to be gripped tighter as you wrote.
“(Y/N).” He began, noting how your shoulders tensed up at the mention of your name from his lips. “I would like to have a word with you.”
Throwing your pen down on the desk, you swiftly swiveled your chair around to look at him. “Yeah, well, I have two words for you.” You growled, eyes fixed on his. “Go away.” You paused for a second. “Or fuck you. Or fuck off. Wow, there’s a lot of things I can say to you that only needs two words.”
He let you finish before continuing what he had to say. “I hope the events that occurred last night do not impact our ability to solve cases together.”
Scoffing, you rested your head on the palm of your hand. “Yes, because we wouldn’t want that to happen, now do we?” You asked, an ‘innocent’ smile on your face.
“Correct.” Conner responded, seeing how your eyes fell to the ground causing something inside him to shift. His eyes widened a bit at the feeling. Shifting meant something was wrong. Something was changing.
‘I will not succumb to petty emotions.’ He told himself, feeling the shifting within him remove itself.
His face became blank again, cold orbs analyzing how you angrily grabbed the paperwork on your desk, shoving it into your bag. “I hope that you are not stilleffected emotionally by what happened.” He said, unaware of how harsh he was coming across as.
You froze your actions, glancing over at him. “Un-fucking-believable.” You hissed, throwing your bag over your shoulder and heading towards the front doors of the DPD.
“Where are you going?” The RK900 inquired, closely following at your side.
You pushed open the doors with a small grunt, the cool air hitting your face. You sighed in relief, happy to be out of the stuffy, compact building but it was ruined when you remembered the android next to you. “Away.” You whispered, walking down the sidewalk. “I’m going away.”
“You’re going to the bar.” Conner corrected, eyeing you up and down as you held your bag tightly. He looked around, noticing how dark it was and the many alleyways between buildings from here to the destination. “I’ll accompany you.”
You stopped walking, staring at the android in shock. “No! You are not going with me! Can’t I have some time to myself?”
“Considering how many criminals are within this block alone, I would advise you to allow me to come with you.” He said, walking forward towards the direction of the bar. There was no ‘allowing’ when it came to Conner. It was his way or the highway (or six-feet under if you were a deviant).
Groaning, you followed him, making sure to stay close by, only because of what he mentioned about criminals. “Just because I’m letting you follow me like some creep, doesn’t mean I’m not pissed at you anymore.”
A brief smile came and went on Conner’s face as he nodded, “I understand.”
There was heavy silence in the air between the both of you as you made your way over to the bar. Cars would pass by temporarily, blinding you with their bright headlights before vanishing again. Cats and other animals were heard, rummaging through trash cans down alleyways before they tipped over, spilling the contents with a loud bang. Looking down, you saw how close your hands were to each other, only a couple inches from contact. Conner glanced at you, seeing how your eyes were observing something as you walked. He followed your gaze, seeing how close he was to you as well. He soon felt the uncomfortable shift inside him again.
‘I will not succumb to-‘
Your fingers slowly moved against his, the touch being one of the softest things the android has ever felt. His mind went blank, his systems having trouble understanding the contact. His eyes flickered up to your face which was still focused downwards. With a sharp intake of breath, he felt your thumb rub over the back of his hand. The RK900 felt himself slowly leaning down towards you involuntarily, watching as you gazed up at him before closing your eyes, moving up to meet him.
He felt multiple shifts inside his chest this time, forcing him to yank his hand back.
“We’re here.” He said, clearing his throat, acting as if nothing happened. The android walked forward, pushing the doors open to the bar. He could feel you burning holes in the back of his head with your harsh glare from behind.
You pushed forward, heading past him and towards the bartender. There weren’t many people in the room because of how late it was. Approaching the bar, you hopped onto one of the unoccupied stools. “A water, please.” You told the bartender who nodded, leaving to get you a glass.
Conner stood by your side, raising an eyebrow at your request. “Most people come to a bar to drink alcohol.”
A glass of water was placed in front of you before you thanked the man behind the counter quietly. You took a sip of your drink, ignoring the RK900 next to you.
Conner glanced around the room, his hands behind his back. “Is there something I did wrong?” He asked, tilting his head to the side, eyes boring into yours.
You smirked with water in your mouth, humming in reply. Gulping, you gently put down the glass in your hand, turning to the brunette man. Your fingers interlocked themselves, laying on your lap as you give him a sweet smile. “What do you want from me, Conner?”
He stared at you, his LED yellow, trying to understand what you meant.
Sighing, you moved the glass around, watching the water swish against the surface. “One minute, you’re a machine following protocol. The next, you show emotion, feeling.”
He scowled at your words, not wanting that to be a possibility. He’d be no better than his RK800 counterpart. “Not possible.” He stated bluntly, earning a frown from you.
Nodding, your lips formed a thin-line as you squinted. “So, you’re telling me, that when I do this,” Slowly, you ran a hand up his arm, gently grasping at him. “…you feel nothing?” You whispered, searching his eyes for an answer.
Conner’s exterior showed no emotion, only a yellow LED, but his insides were a whole different story. His thirium pump was moving extremely fast, making him feel – nervous. He could feel his hands slightly shake at the long contact that you initiated with him. “I feel…” He glanced up at you, staring in awe before his programming took control. “…nothing.” He hissed, taking a step back from you.
Your face fell before hardening again, tightening your jaw. “Bullshit.” You hissed, standing up and grabbing his collar, throwing him into a rough kiss. Conner took a deep breath through his nose, stunned by the action. You pulled away from him, a light blush on your cheeks with soft eyes. “Nothing?” You desperately whispered, knowing he had to feel emotion somehow.
Oh, how he wanted to pull you back into him, showing you everything he held inside. Instead, he was forced to follow the codes CyberLife gave him. “Nothing.” He spat back through his teeth causing your eyes to narrow before pushing him away.
You twisted around, grabbing the half glass of water and throwing the contents at the android. Collective ‘ooohs’ were heard around the bar as you stormed out of there without a second thought. Conner glared at your back, wiping his face with his sleeve. People looked away in fear once his gaze fell upon them but something inside him pushed him forward to go after you.
Pushing the doors open, the cold air hit the android’s face as his head went side to side, searching for you. Eventually, he saw you in the distance, hunched over as you walked, trying to gain warmth from yourself. He was about to call out your name when-

The sound of a gun being cocked echoed through the desolate streets of snowy Detroit. Conner froze in his spot, eyes staring straight forward, his hands low in the air. The RK900 observed as you turned a corner, disappearing into the night before the owner of the gun spoke up behind him.
“I fucking warned you, you plastic asshole.”

I need more of this please 😭😭😭
A/N: I am thinking about making this one a series as well. I don’t know it depends on what you guys think. I love hearing from you guys, It makes my day! Thanks lovelies.
Not many down at the DPD were fond of you. Not many knew you, really. You worked quietly, by yourself. It was easy to just focus on the job at hand when it was just you. Yes it was dangerous. Most cases involving Red Ice were. It was nice though, you thought, working by yourself. You really only talked to Hank, and then to Connor when he arrived. Hank would worry about you, you knew that. Keeping your emotions locked tight with in you would worry anyone. Maybe that is why you didn’t speak much to other people. You felt they wouldn’t understand. They saw you as cold and unfeeling. Which you weren’t.
This of course dragged you into the attention of Gavin Reed. If he wasn’t pestering Connor, he was pestering you. You earned the nickname ‘Android Princess’ because of your actions and lack of emotions. It started with Reed, but you’ve heard others whisper the name in passing. It hurt. It’s not like you didn’t have feelings and emotions. It’s just that you felt out of control when you let your emotions show. It was crazy, but you felt the only way to feel control was to lock it all inside. Hide this thorn in your side, never let it show. Never let yourself crack.
You were human though and would crack every so often. In moments like these you’d be drunk and talking to Hank. And he would just take it, rubbing your back comfortingly. You liked that friendship. You came around less however when Connor was introduced to Hank as his partner. It felt… weird to interrupt their work and you felt like Connor wouldn’t understand, even after his deviancy.
Today was just a normal day. Another day of avoiding the break room and burying yourself in your work. That is until you were called into Fowler’s office. Looking up from your reports, your stomach twisted. You hated being called out like some teenager whose done something bad and is requested to go to the principal’s office. You pushed your self away from your desk and began to walk towards Fowler’s station. Nerves were attacking you, biting at your stomach, making your heart heavier. Running your thumb across your fingertips as you went, a nervous tick you picked up.
Entering the office, you were surprised to find some one else inhere with the captain. At first it appeared to be Connor, taking a second look you realized that this person was different, not Connor at all. Your eyebrows furrowed as you looked between the two men. the captain looked up “Y/n. Come in. I have something I want to discuss with you” composing yourself you moved to the front of his desk, ignoring the eyes you felt boring into your head from the other man. “Have I done something wrong sir?” A shake of the head, Fowler raised his hand off his desk dismissively. “Not at all. This is the newest RK unit. An upgrade from Connor.” Holding back a flinch you spoke “We’re not replacing him are we? We can’t-” you were cut off “No that’s not what is happening.”
You relaxed slightly, running your thumb over your fingers in a continuous motion. The captain continued “I have noticed recently that you have been taking on more and more work. While you are good at your job, I don’t want you to get hurt or to overwork yourself. That’s where Rk900 comes in” A nod to the android now standing beside you, you glanced up at the emotionless face then back to your captain. “He’s your new partner.” The statement hung in the air as you processed what was going on “His job is to be by your side, follow your orders always, protect you-” “sir” you tried to interject but Fowler kept on “His mission is your mission. I imagine you’ll be able to get more work done now.” Irritation laced his voice.
You couldn’t believe this. You worked fine just by yourself. blinking several times you finally spoke “Sir, if I have done anything unsatisfactory in my job let me fix it. I don’t need a babysitter.” You could feel yourself starting to crack. A harsh chuckle was his reply “Y/n this isn’t a punishment. if anything this is a .. a reward or what have you. I am not changing my mind. This is your new partner and that’s final”. Hopelessness seemed to grasp onto your shoulders as you straightened your posture. “U-Understood… sir” A curt nod, you turned and left the office, trying to gain composure as you left, feeling a presence behind you.
You hated that walk back to your desk, eyes followed you from all around. Making you feel small. Sighing, you sat down trying to work. Not a word was spoken between the two of you. He was close, hovering. Practically engulfing you in his presence. You couldn’t focus, so you pushed away from your desk slightly and looked at him. He was so intimidating. Like a lion, gazing at it’s prey. That’s what you felt like. A mouse, squirming in his gaze. Clearing your throat of any emotion, you spoke “ Do you have a name?” Only a calculated shake of the head was his response. He was so stoic. “Oh… well, I’m going to call you Nines cause Rk900 is a bit of a mouthful” he looked ahead, his voice was low and crisp, yet soft “Registering name as Nines” Jesus Christ you couldn’t help but flinch slightly. Was that a tone of distaste?
Pushing it aside, you continued to look at him, until his steely eyes snapped to yours. “You know you don’t have to stand so close. It’s a little distracting actually” He took one step back “That’s not what I- forget it” You turned back to your desk, a storm of frustration, anger, and weariness swirled inside. You wanted to get away from here, hoping the day would soon end. It’s not that you weren’t thankful, it’s just that it was strange. It felt wrong especially after the revolution. Connor came back to the department on his own accord, but you were sure Nines didn’t have free will and that bothered you. Androids had rights, and you didn’t like the fact that this one had to obey what you said.
You were pulled from your thoughts by an unwelcome presence. Gavin walked up to your desk with a sneer “Oh great. Another plastic prick. What Android princess? Did you get so lonely that you had the boss make you a tin can boyfriend?” Your face was as blank as Nines’ but Reed’s actions only added to the storm that raged within you. “No. Of course not Gavin that would be impractical and a waste of everyone’s time. This is my new partner, Nines. He is hear so that I can take on more work and do it effectively so. Unlike the work you have shown.” More cracks were showing. Gavin was spluttering in anger, waving a threatening finger in your unflinching face. However, it was stilled by a strong hand. An impassive face stared down at Gavin “ If you have intent to harm Detective Y/n I will stop you.” Your mouth was slightly open, Reed paled slightly but kept his facade. Seeing that Nines was not going to let go, you feared that he would snap Reed’s wrist. You reached out, placing a hand gently on his arm
“it’s ok. You can let him go” it was like an electrical shock when you touched him. You accredited it to static electricity. He let go after another long moment, leaving Gavin to huff and walk off. Stealing another glance at Nines you found he was already staring back. Letting a sigh pass your lips you continued on your work, trying your best to ignore the glares and glances you were getting.
Soon you were able to leave the station, gathering your items you stood from your desk, turning to give an awkward goodbye “Er.. see you tomorrow I suppose” You gave a nod but stopped before you turned to leave. His voice piercing straight through you “I have orders to protect you. It is my mission to make sure you are always safe” breath escaped you, like you were hit to the gut. “So you’re coming home with me” it wasn’t a question, but Nines nodded anyways. He was so mechanical and dangerous you felt. Turning, you jerked your head for him to follow you and the two of you walked out of the station. How were you going to survive this?
