Hey! I’m opia. I’m a tarot reader and astrologer. This is a tarot and astrology blog for all my moody, complicated, unique, plutonian and uranian people. I cover most topics, but particularly the taboo, sexual, fun, wild, intense topics. So if you’re not comfortable reading explicit/unfiltered stuff, then this is definitely not the page you should be on. I want us all, to embrace the darker aspects of ourselves society wants us to shy away from. I’m blunt. This doesn’t mean i’m rude, but i like my readings/astrology posts to be completely transparent, so be prepared for unfiltered messages. I’m not always going to tell you what you want to hear. So don’t get a reading/ read my posts, if you aren’t prepared for honesty. I feel like to really connect with all of you, openness is important. So don’t be shy about anything. If my reading style can be improved let me know. If you don’t like something i say let me know. I like honest feedback. I don’t sugar coat and i don’t want you to either. I appreciate all of you so much!

what is your craziest tarot prediction ? like one prediction you are still shocked till this day !

The problem is I rarely feel shocked to begin with (unless, it's due to loud noises and people's audacity). I feel mildly surprised and sometimes I look like that math calculation meme lol. I usually find 'missing items' readings particularly interesting tho because how accurate it can be, they are not exactly future predictions but like... you are just out here trying to find a key and tarot can tell you where it is? Amazing.

I tried finding pills once. Granted, they were in a blister pack, but still. It was a bit weird. Tarot gave me 4 of Pentacles (personal space, stuck in a narrow place, probably between two things), 8 of Cups (somewhere I'd searched before) and Knight of Cups (emotions, relationships, sensitivity all that jazz). At first I didn't know how the Knight of Cups was relevant so I kinda dismissed it.

I found the pills in between the pages of my thick social psychology textbook that I'd searched before in my bedroom. Because of how thick the book was there was no obvious bulge to indicate anything was stuck in between the pages, so I didn't open it the first and second time I searched my textbooks. Too bad I didn't properly look at the pages where it was stuck in, I wonder if it was a chapter about relationship or something because that textbook had a chapter on romantic relationships 😂

Secrets to the Arabian Princess Scent 💐🧴🪷

So with Arab perfumes becoming popular in the West due to their strong projection and beautiful smell, and the Arab world becoming known for our knowledge on how to smell good af, I (a half Moroccan) am going to reveal some other ways we ensure we smell amazing to the girlies on Tumblr who are interested in Arab perfumes or just in generally smelling amazing 😍 Most tips are Moroccan but many apply to the Arab world in general (under the cut because this turned into a long post) ✨💞💐

Secrets To The Arabian Princess Scent 💐🧴🪷
Secrets To The Arabian Princess Scent 💐🧴🪷
Secrets To The Arabian Princess Scent 💐🧴🪷

1) Good Eating Habits: When my mother moved here to Europe, she was immediately struck by how the people seemed to smell like "pig." And that's no coincidence. You are what you eat, so coming from a country where nobody eats pig to one where everyone eats it, of course you're going to be struck by people smelling like it from the inside out. Not just that, but in the Arab world, it's also way less common for people to eat takeout and drink alcohol, whereas in many parts of the West, these things are a normal part of many people's diets and affects their natural scent. A lot of Arabs have also talked about how Westerners smell like "milk," and this is because Westerners tend to consume more dairy products than people in the East do. It's also common for Arabs to eat fruit as dessert instead of having cakes or cookies all the time (although speaking of cookies and cakes, the scents of rosewater, orange blossom water, almonds, honey, vanilla, oranges and lemons commonly used in Arab baking fill up the house with a wonderful smell while they're baking). Teas made from various herbal infusions are popular throughout the Arab world. Spearmint, peppermint, sage, cardamom, cinnamon, hibiscus, chamomile, anise, and thyme are commonly used to flavor tea in MENA. Dried lime tea is drunk in the Arabian Peninsula. Coffee flavoured with cardamom is also common. I especially like Turkish coffee. Spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves are commonly used in cooking, and the scent of them can cling to your clothes and hair. Herbs like mint and parsley, which have natural deodorising properties, are often used in meals.

I'm not saying that you need to cut any foods out in order to smell good, but you should consider reducing the amounts of unhealthy foods and red meats you eat, and make sure to drink plenty of water and eat veggies and fruit daily.

2) Keeping a Clean House: Here in Ireland, a lot of people don't clean their houses every day. I know multiple people that only clean their floor once a week, and have a couple of neighbours who don't do much cleaning themselves and just have a housekeeper visit to clean once a week. But in Morocco, people clean daily. The home is also deep cleaned once a week, we even wash the walls. We don't wear shoes inside, and not just that, but we also have different slippers specifically for wearing inside the bathroom. Living in a clean space is important for smelling good, because no matter what you do, you'll always end up smelling like wherever you live due to spending so much time there. The scent will cling to your clothes and hair. Which means if your house smells dirty, you will also smell dirty.

As well as making sure the house is clean, Arabs also make it smell pretty with extras. For example, in Morocco it's common to burn incense or bakhour (perfumed wood chips), and the scent permeates your clothes. People also keep pieces of musk in their wardrobes (wrapped in a handkerchief). It come in scents like orange blossom, jasmine, amber, sandalwood, chamomile and lavender. An unused bar of soap or a sachet of potpourri in your wardrobe will do the same job though if you can't or don't want to buy musk. The musk can also be used as a scented wax melt, a home scent (you just leave it in a bowl), a body perfume (rub it on your skin), a hair perfume (rub on your palms and run through the hair), or to scent bathwater. Solid perfume made from natural ingredients has the same effect. I like Lush Rose Jam solid perfume, as it smells like sweet roses and Turkish delight, and a little goes a long way.

Specific to Marrakech, you can buy jasmine balls which you just leave around the house (if you're not in Marrakech, you can just leave potpourri or dried flowers and herbs in sachets on your desk, bedside table, etc). The Marrakech herbal shops also sell sandalwood bark which you burn. Oud and amber are also burned. Herbs like lavender are sprinkled under carpets and rugs so the scent rises as they're stepped on. Room sprays from brands like Nabeel are used, which come in a range of lovely scents (like the warm vanilla and oud Kanz or the rich floral Raunaq).

3) Personal Hygiene: In the Arab world, people shower daily. In Morocco, we also go to the hammam (public bath) once a week, and we sit in the sauna room, and then rub our bodies with sabon beldi (black soap), a natural soap made from olive oil and black olives, leaving it on for a few minutes before rinsing it off. Then we scrub our skin with a kessa glove after it's marinated. Exfoliating dead skin regularly makes perfume cling to you better (if you order Korean bath towels from Amazon, they're very similar to Moroccan kessa gloves and you use them in a similar way). Then after washing our hair, we use a ghassoul clay mask (some people also rub henna into their skin). After washing the clay off, many people rub rosewater or argan oil into their skin before heading to the relaxation area to enjoy refreshments. As well as helping us smell good, it also makes our skin incomparably soft. When my parents were newlyweds, my father remarked on how he'd never felt a woman with such soft skin in his life before. My mother attributes it to regularly using the hammams before moving here.

Obviously not everyone has access to a hammam, but you can create a similar experience at home. Just sit in a steamy hot shower for 10-15 minutes, wash your skin with a natural soap and leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing off and exfoliating with a glove. Then tone with rosewater and apply oil to your body.

Dukhan treatments (smoke baths) are practiced in Sudan. Married women and brides anoint themselves with oil, before sitting over a chair with a hole in the centre. Under the seat, there is a pit, in which acacia wood, frankincense, or other aromatic woods and resins are burned in a clay vessel.

As well as showering daily (and using the hammam regularly if you're Maghrebi), many people in the Arab world also perform wudu (ritual cleansing) five times a day before praying.

Women commonly apply Musk Al Tahara (white musk), an attar that smells like vanilla, flowers and soft musk on the external parts of their vulva after periods.

Alum was commonly used as a natural deodorant in the Arab world in the past, and some still use it today.

Bidets are also common in the Arab world. In the Anglosphere they're uncommon, but it's easy to get a portable bidet (a small squeezable bottle with a nozzle) online.

We also wash our hands before meals, with a pitcher of water which is passed around the room. In Turkey, they use kolonya, made from fig blossoms, jasmine, rose, or citrus to disinfect their hands. In Morocco, it's common for women to scent their hands with rosewater or orange blossom water after meals.

4) Fragrances, Lotions and Potions: In the Arab world, perfumes are incredible. They're oil-based, so they have excellent projection and longevity. The olfactory notes commonly used in them are beautiful too: delicate rosewater and orange blossom water, exotic oud, sweet amber, vibrant roses and jasmine. In Morocco, gardenia scents are popular, even among men.

Emirati perfumes are the most well known in the West and are super good. Some personal favourites of mine include Oud Mood by Lattafa (Caramel, rose, saffron, and oud), Fatima Pink by Zimaya (Sweet rose that smells like a bit like Turkish delight. it's a dupe of the French Parfums De Marly Delina, however, the actual Delina smells very similar to generic rose oil perfumes you can get in the Arab world to begin with so Zimaya was basically able to dupe it to a T. Their version lasts really long too), Ameerat Al Arab by Lattafa (jasmine, a hint of oud, slightly citrusy. Also the name means "Arabian Princess" in English), Fakhar Rose by Lattafa (sweet, fruity, and very floral) and Yara by Lattafa (floral, amber, vanilla and strawberry). I buy my perfumes from Dubai Perfume Shop in Dublin, but they can be easily found online. Some well-known Arab perfume houses include Lattafa, Al Rehab, Zimaya, Al Qurashi, Amouage, Afnan, Ajmal, Asdaaf, Al Haramain, Armaf, Kayali, Maison Alhambra, and Swiss Arabian, but there are hundreds more.

As well as sprayable perfume, perfume oil is also used. It usually comes in rollerballs or small containers, is inexpensive, and lasts for ages. Like spray perfume, it comes in a huge variety of scents. You can also put it in diffusers or add some to cotton balls and leave in your wardrobe to scent clothes and linens.

Arabs know when to wear perfumes. For example, a rich, sweet, strong oud and vanilla scent will be beautiful in colder weather. But in warm weather, it will become cloying and sickly. Musk, amber and saffron are popular in winter, while rose, orange blossom and jasmine are popular in summer.

In the Arab world, many stalls in the Medina sell gorgeous oils, fragrances and soaps that are inexpensive. For example, the musk I mentioned above. As well as making your home smell incredible, you can also rub it on your body and you'll smell good for days.

Rosewater is commonly used as a toner and to remove makeup. In the town of Skoura, where my great grandparents were from, men even use it to shave with! Orange blossom water is also used in Arab beauty routines in a similar way to rosewater. You can apply either to a bath for extra luxury.

Argan oil is commonly used in Morocco on both skin and hair, as well as the less well-known but just as good prickly pear oil (which is very high in vitamin E). Pure argan oil actually smells mild and not fragrant (similar to olive oil), but for beauty, things like rose oil and menthol are commonly added, so it smells pretty good. Throughout the Middle East and North Africa, jasmine hair oil, castor oil and sweet almond oil (I like putting it in my baths and on my body) are easy to find. Usually Middle Eastern and South Asian shops in the West sell them too.

Honey and almond masks have been used since ancient times, and to this day are still popular. You can buy them basically anywhere. Homemade face masks made from honey and yoghurt or crushed figs and yoghurt are also used.

Aloe Vera is used to treat dry skin, acne, and sunburns. It has a cool and refreshing scent, perfect for the hot climate in many parts of the Arabian world. I like applying it after shaving as it's soothing, natural, and absorbs easily.

Frankincense, a resin used in the Middle East and North Africa for thousands of years, was traditionally used as a natural perfume. It's commonly used in incense. Frankincense oil is also good for the skin.

Bakhour and incense, as well as being used to scent the home, can also be used to scent the hair and clothes. Hold your clothes or hair over a brazier with incense burning inside, and the perfumed smoke will cling on to them.

There are many beautiful scented soaps available in the Arab world. If you go to Turkish or Arab supermarkets, a lot of them will have a section where they sell hygiene products, including soaps with ingredients like argan, rose and oud, and olive oil. I've even found Syrian Aleppo soap before. You can just buy soaps from regular stores in scents like rose, jasmine, honey and almond, orange blossom and sandalwood for achieving that exotic scent though.

As well as using various oils, perfumes, and fragrant beauty treatments, Arab women also know how to layer these different scents to add dimension to them and avoid clashing. For example, a rose perfume over a vanilla lotion will always smell good. Other combinations that are good include almond and vanilla, rose and oud, rose and jasmine, lavender and lemon, rose and orange blossom, and orange blossom and vanilla. But there are many different combinations you can use to achieve a delicious scent that's unique to you.

using tarot for yes/no questions

in this post i’ll explain how to interpret cards in a yes no fashion, and include my person cheat sheet of every card and it’s yes or no, or maybe.

please remember, this is my personal interpretation, you can follow it exactly or do it your way!!!!

before starting anything

make sure you have a good deck with good imagery. i would also suggest having a very good idea of each card. you don’t need to be super experienced with cards, but be able to have some basic key words and meanings behind each card. test yourself. pull random cards and see if you have a story, keywords, meanings, etc… something for each card. then start

interpreting the cards (basic)

for yes/no, you only need to pull 1- unless you are also finding the “why”. but i would just pull one card. if you haven’t- read this post of mine first

how i approach a reading / the cards
Tumblr
do you feel overwhelmed when pulling cards? are you a beginner and need a guide to get started? read this to see how i personally do this

then take into account everything i’ve said(people, expressions, colors, etc….) and use that in a yes/no fashion.

keep in mind: no card has a set “yes” or “no”, but you can take into account the vibe behind it and the meanings. for example- the sun is a super positive card, so yes. while the 9 of swords is quite negative, so no.

as for court cards: i wouldn’t try to use a court card for a yes/no. i would use court cards as attitudes instead. for example: if you say- should i take the job at xyz… and it says knight of swords, i wouldn’t say yes/no, i would say don’t be to hasty on making a decision (i would probably pull more to clarify, but you get the idea). here’s some info that may be helpful

pages: feminine, younger, immature, naieve, messengers

knights: masculine, young, young adult, hasty

queens: feminine, older, mature

kings: masculine, older, mature

the cards and it’s yes/no

MAJOR ARCANA

fool- yes, with eyes open (be aware)

magician- yes, if the resources are there.

high priestess- you already know the answer. maybe

empress- yes

emperor- whatever is the best decision, logically. use surrounding cards to help or pull more. so, maybe

hierophant- maybe. follow the traditional answer, or ask for help from a trusted individual.

lovers- maybe, the answer may change as you go.

chariot- there isn’t a yes or no. it’s up to you to make the answer as you go. (yes, but nothing will happen if you don’t make it)

strength- yes, but will take hard work.

hermit- maybe, but there needs to be a better evaluation to thought behind this situation.

wheel of fortune- the answer will come to you, leave it for now if you can and come back to it. yes, if you really need an answer.

justice- maybe. justice is weird bc if you’re good- you’re good, but if you’re bad- you’re not good😭 take that how you see it

hanged man- maybe. look at the situation differently, then ask again.

death- this card will probably show itself during a hard time or ending. it’s a yes, but one that doesn’t come easily, but is needed.

temperance- yes, but have a good head and mindset moving forward.

devil- no

tower- no

star-yes, and trust the universe/god/spirit/etc…

moon- there isn’t enough information to come to an answer.

sun- huge yes

judgement- yes

world- yes

PENTACLES:

pentacles regard financial and material possessions. pentacles also represent stability and a sense of feeling grounded. here is a simplified yes/no key:

timing: slow moving, won’t be quick. months or years

financial: depends on the card (read below), but advises you to make sure financials are set and you are stable.

love: make sure the foundation is stable and everything else is set in place.

love language: gift giving, acts of service

person: an earth sign

ace- yes

2- no, it will be too much to carry. or too stressful.

3- ask a friend or trusted individual for help, yes but may need teamwork.

4- yes, the foundation is stable, but be aware of not being open to different options.

5- no, the financial situation is not at best or stuff is not aligned for a yes.

6- yes

7- yes, but don’t be upset if things don’t turn out EXACTLY how you expect. life doesn’t work that way.

8- yes, but it won’t come easy. hard work and dedication is needed here. and if you can’t do that, then take it as a no.

9- yes

10- yes

page- be open to learning new things and being open in general. this a “learn about every other option before making a decision”

knight- take this situation slow before doing anything. the answer will come along the way.

queen- yes but make sure you’re stable before anything

king- yes, but don’t over do it.

WANDS:

wands represent spirituality, passion, and hobbies. wands will probably pop up regarding situations of passion or at a time of high energy.

timing: very quick. days

financial: follow whatever your heart desires, and what your truly love. don’t get burnt out.

love: very passionate, but don’t make too quick of decisions and don’t be judgmental.

person: fire sign

love language: physical tough, quality time, acts of service.

ace- yes

2- maybe. consider your question heavily. i think you know the answer if this card is pulled.

3- yes, but you may need to wait a little and be patient:

4- yes

5- no

6- yes

7- mmmmm no.

8- yes, also fast/action filled energy here. don’t make too quick of a decision.

9- no

10- no

page- there isn’t enough energy or attitude at play here to make a decision that will benefit you. make a decision when you’re more energized and upbeat.

knight- don’t run into things, or make a decision to quickly.

queen- be confident about whatever decision you make.

king- confidence is key, but don’t be rude or judgment about whatever decision you make and others involved. passion is needed here as well.

CUPS:

cups represent feelings, emotions, and love. when cups show during a yes/no, you may be feeling either really low or very loved and happy. your situation may need to be rethought, or may need you in a better mentality.

timing: 5+ weeks - months

financial: you may be happy where you are, or you need to really consider this. you may be making a decision based on emotions, and that is not ideal.

love: romantic and full of love. can turn manipulative.

person: water sign

love language: physical touch, quality time

ace- yes

2- yes, but if this is legal or has to do with an important contract or deal, really be aware of all of the aspects and rules.

3- yes

4- no, the answer will probably not satisfy you. reconsider your options.

5- no.

6- maybe, with yes leaning. depends on who or what ur asking about.

7- you have many options. consider all of them before making a decision.

8- no.

9- yes

10- yes

page- the decision you make may be risky or shock you. be prepared

knight- a different option may arise than you are currently asking. be patient or look at things differently during this time

queen- this decision needs a calm, collected person. if you find you don’t have the personality or traits of a calm, kind, caring person, maybe this choice is not for you.

king- this king is connected. if you choose an option, choose one where you stay connected.

SWORDS:

swords represent truth, clarity, honesty, and communication. swords can mean that not all the answers/options are present in the moment, or someone is/isn’t telling the truth. of course, each card varies, but you get the idea.

timing: weeks

financial: make sure all options are on the table, and follow your brain. be logical. don’t be afraid to communicate issues or problems.

love: a very clear cut person, straightforward, good communication.

person: air sign.

love language: acts of service, words of confirmation

ace- yes

2- maybe, leaning towards no. you aren’t seeing all aspects rn and it is too uncertain.

3- no

4- maybe, with learning towards no. sleep on this.

5- no

6- maybe:depends on question. this card is ab leaving things and moving forward, take that as you see it.

7- no

8- no, you aren’t seeing things truly. there is also bias here.

9- no

10- no

page- be ready for whatever you choose, but don’t jump to conclusions.

knight- this card is even more hasty than the knight of wands- so REALLY be careful regarding speed here.

queen/king: swords are all about logic, clarity, and truth. make sure you have all aspects of the situation before making a decision.

Communicating With Deities

How do I communicate with my deity?

How do I know if a deity is trying to reach me?

How can I tell if my deity accepted my offering?

How can I receive messages from my deity?

Communicating With Deities

The topic of communicating with deities is the question I get asked the most so I figured it was time to give it its own post. Especially because this question doesn’t have an easy answer.  It’s not as simple as learning to give an offering or how to devote yourself to a deity. There’s no step by step, made for everyone and every deity, guide to communicating. Its ultimately something you have to figure out yourself, though I can offer some help in ways to go about figuring it out. But first I want to clear some things up about communication with deities. I feel there are a lot of misconceptions that surround it and I also need to explain WHY it’s a topic I can’t give you an easy answer to. So let’s get to that!

Faith- So I’ll admit that the obsession that a lot of people have with communicating with their deities confuses me. When I started I didn’t really think much of the hows of interacting with Aphrodite because I, just like with any other religion, assumed that I had to have faith that Aphrodite was listening. I feel like a lot of people are missing that, like being a Hellenic Polytheist means you have constant, consistent, and direct messages from the gods, but that’s not the case. Faith is still an element and honestly it remains an element even when you have been devoted for years. You’re not always going to get confirmations on things you do or ask, actually most of the time you don’t. You just have to have faith they are there and listening

Tumblr - This point is directly related to the first point. I believe that a lot of the misconceptions of communicating with deities and even the obsession with it has a lot to do with our community here on tumblr. I’m not here to accuse anyone or point any blame. I’m not even saying that people are lying or exaggerating. I just think because of everyone sharing their wonderful experiences it’s creating an image of communicating being a natural part of a devotee’s everyday life with their deity. I mean maybe it is for some, but not all. Honestly, a lot of what you are looking at on tumblr are snapshots of worship. Maybe that devotee received an AMAZING sign or message from their deity but perhaps that was the first one in a few months. The truth is, just like with most aspects of our lives, we like to share the fantastic on social media, so don’t take everything you read as the “normal” or the “standard” of devotion. The truth is there really isn’t one and definitely not one for communicating with deities.

Skills - It’s important to keep in mind that communicating with deities can be seen as a skill. And just like with any skill there are those who are “naturally gifted” and others who have to practice practice practice in order to see any results. This is also a reason why you shouldn’t look to others’ experiences as the way it works for everyone. They could be one of those naturally gifted people who are just born tuned into the god frequency or they could also have been practicing and doing a lot of work to get the point where it’s easier to receive messages. So those of you starting out shouldn’t automatically think you will begin getting signs and messages right away, it most likely will be something you have to work towards.

Deities Communicate Differently - A big reason it’s nearly impossible to say how or if a deity is communicating with you is because they do it in different ways. The way Aphrodite and me communicate may not be the same way she communicates with another devotee. A lot of it depends on the devotee. We each have a way of communicating that we will be more receptive to, whether you know it or not. Your deity might know that and choose to use that form, even if you haven’t exactly figured that out yet (fun, right? lol). A deity also may choose a way to communicate depending on the message they are trying to send you. They could also pick a way simply because they find it amusing and/or ironic (i’m looking at you, Hermes). It’s really hard for someone on the outside to tell you for sure how your deity is going to interact with you specifically. I can’t speak for the gods and I can’t speak on your personal relationship with them. Again, it’s something you have to journey through and find answers to yourself.

Now that the bad news is over with, how about I give you some good news? As I said above, I can give you some advice/tips on ways you can figure out how to communicate with your deity yourself. Remember this is a process, a journey, it’s not a faucet. Doing one of these things isn’t going to automatically start the flowing of messages. Just keep that in mind! Now onto the list!

Divination - Probably the most popular form of communication with deities is using some form of divination. There’s A LOT to choose from so do your research and see what calls out to you and give it a try! Some examples are tarot, oracle, runes, pendulum, scrying, bibliomancy, shufflemancy, just to name a few.

Meditation - I strongly recommend everyone try meditation because there’s a ton of benefits to it and one of those benefits is connecting with your deities. Not only can you receive messages and signs while mediating, the act itself opens you up to be more receptive in your everyday life!

Astral Travel - This is another popular method used to communicate with deities. Many people talk about not only receiving messages from their deities, but also full on interaction with them. Make sure you do your research before attempting it! It also may help to practice meditation first.

Dreams - Okay so this is one of the easier ones on the list to do. Basically start recording your dreams and see if you notice anything either popping out at you or that’s repeating. Sometimes your deity may just simple show up like “hey, what’s going on? You dreamin?” but other times they aren’t that obvious (why would they make it easy on us?). Recording your dreams is a great way to notice patterns because sometimes it can take multiple dreams to get a message. This applies to the universe as well. Like it took me a good chunk of my life to realize that when the universe wants me to pay attention it throws an abundance of something in my dream, where I’ll be like “shit thats a lot of elephants!” and then another dream years later “What is with all these fucking spiders!?”. Keeping a dream journal makes it easier to notice things like that. You can also ask your deity to appear in your dreams if you so choose (of course whether they do or not is up to them). Also if you’re into it you can use herbs and stones to better receive messages in your dreams and to remember them when you wake up.

Journaling - Anyone who has been a follower of me for awhile can probably tell you that my answer for most things is “Keep a Journal” and they are probably eyerolling me right now, lol! But I really believe in the benefits of journaling because they are abundant! I won’t go into all of them because we are talking about communicating with deities and damn it I WILL stay on topic! Just like recording your dreams, recording your waking life can help you spot patterns and possible signs that you might miss otherwise. If you’re like me and interact a lot with your deity through emotions and feelings, journaling is truly wonderful! You can start making connections between actions and your emotions that could help you better understand your deity. I also recommend doing this even if you choose to do one of the other ideas listed above. Recording your progress and your emotions is great for looking back on and seeing how far you come especially in those moments when you feel like you haven’t done much. So yeah, everyone keep a journal!

Open Yourself - So those of you who are witches don’t really need much explanation on this and honestly you might have already started on this one, but for the sake of those who might not know let me explain. There are different ways you can better open yourself up so receiving messages can be easier. Using certain stones, burning certain herbs/incense, using oils, casting spells, doing rituals, etc. There’s a lot you can do to help open yourself up to the universe! And these aid a lot in the techniques above!

Talk To Others - I know what you’re thinking “Wait, didn’t you say that looking at what someone else does is part of the problem?” Yes, i did, but it can also be helpful as long as you find the balance! Seeing how other devotees of your deity interact with them can at least give you ideas and a direction to go in. The key is not to compare and to not see their devotion as the “one true way”. Think of it more as a brainstorming session!

I just want to add that this post is my own personal opinion and personal reasons why I feel I can’t answer questions of this topic. I hope this post was helpful to those of you who took the time to read it!
