imagine ur garthy o’brien, just trying to fuck this hot ranger you met at your brothel that you own, except her teenage kids/wards/bosses keep knocking on the door to your bedroom and interrupting you guys and THEN you learn that she’s actually in a committed relationship but didn’t tell you, so THAT sucks but THEN one of the teens comes and finds you in the middle of the night yelling about how his friend is gone and they can’t find him and he might be in danger, so you help him teleport to his friend, and then when they all get back, looking extremely upset and dejected, you apologize to the ranger’s daughter for making her feel uncomfortable by fucking her mother and in the process SHE reveals to you that her mom’s boyfriend is actually this really cool werewolf guy that you KNOW and have fucked on multiple occasions
do you ever find yourself bedeviled by writing ideas that are the equivalent of finding a single carrot in your fridge. your brain goes "we should write a pirate story" or "we should write a parisian thief caper" and you ask, "all right, what do we cook with that, then?" and it says "no other ingredients (:"
This is so important. I wish we had more rep resentation of ace characters who aren’t aro, though, and vice versa. It seems like the very few times we get characters on either spectrum, it’s BOTH spectrums. It would really help with society’s lack of separation between romantic and sexual attraction.
isaac's storyline has always been a little secondary in heartstopper. it was a b-plot in season 2, and not even that in season one. but i was happy with it nonetheless y'know? because we have to start somewhere right? baby steps in the right direction.
but just now i'm sitting here and thinking, is this Really as much of a baby step as i feel? i learned the word aromantic from a throwaway sentence in a novel by a small time author, and within a few months i realised it was my identity. and here's this very popular netflix show and there's a secondary plot about a character realising he's aromantic and asexual and this is the first time i'm hearing the word aromantic on screen and how many teenagers are going to google aspec identities after watching that episode? how many people are going to stay up at night thinking about that artist saying that he never quite fit in, but then he realised what was going on and it was freedom? how many 10 year olds are going to have those words stuck in the back of their minds for years and then realise when they're older that those words describe them, and that doesn't mean they're broken, that they have a community that will understand what they're feeling?
aromantic. asexual. holy shit, this is a big step in the right direction.
