THINGS MORE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LAFAYETTE

-wrote in all caps in his letters when he was excited

-slept under a tree with Washington after the battle of Monmouth, both enveloped in Washington’s cape

-basically saved the life of the Queen by kissing her hand

-re-gifted a fucking aligator to President John Quincy Adams cause he didn’t know what the fuck to do with it

-wanted to go kill the Beast of Gévaudan (some big scary people-eating wolf that scared the shit out of the french at the time) by himself at like 6 years old

-called both Jefferson and Washington on their bullshit, telling them to free all their slaves… neither listened

-actually bought an entire island full of slaves with his wife Adrienne and freed them all, gave them money for the work they did, gave them education

-last letter he wrote before his death was about freeing slaves and how sad he was that France was taking so long to give people of colour the same rights than white people

-died holding a picture of his dead-wife to his heart

-cried with Jefferson when they met for the first time in years after both American and French revolutions

-continued to fight and got back on his horse when he was shot in the leg during his first battle

-called his only son “George Washington de Lafayette”

-was socially awkward af, especially when he was young

-a ginger

-left France to go fight for America when the King, his step family, and basically the whole court told him “no”

-had to sneak out of France

-sources differ, but probably left disguised as a woman so no one would recognised him

-gave the biggest symbol of French Revolution  (the key of the just-destroyed Bastille, a prison where the enemies of the King and Kingdom were imprisoned) to Washington

-orphan

-told Washington he was his lost father

-tripped when dancing with the Queen of France and never heard the end of it

-had “sleepovers” on the grass with John Laurens and Alexander Hamilton where they talked about politic

-threw himself in front of a loaded cannon ready to shoot to try to stop an event of the french Revolution to become too bloody

-at some point, pretty much everyone in France wanted him dead

-slept through two of the biggest events of the french Revolution lol

-gave money and helped a lot of poor farmers in need

-fought for other religions than his and the King’s own to be respected and have the same rights (specifically fought for Protestant and Jewish people)

-fought against death penalties

-brought back some dirt from America and told his son to put it on top of his grave when he dies

-redecorated his whole house in France just like American’s homes

-actually told people he was American

-altogether had a slight obsessing problem with America

-had his own room at Washington’s home

-had a ring with Washington’s hair in it

-was one of the richest man in France at the age of 12 because his whole family had basically died at that point

-changed back his family motto to “Why not?”

-was only 19 when he left for America

-was detained in horrible conditions in prison for 5 years (2 of which with his wife and daughters)

-refused the hell out of several powerful positions in politic and in the army because he didn’t found these to be close enough to his ideals of freedom and shit

BNHA - Space (symbolism) Edition

So @saisai-chan and I were talking about awesome space stuff and it bled into talking about BNHA, which led to this - BNHA characters as symbolic celestial *SPACE* objects. We’re just… Really enthusiastic about space…..

All Might - Sun. Center of everything, provides life/energy to the solar system, largest celestial body in solar system. (All Might’s influence.) Also protects the solar system from objects from outside the system. (Again, his influence, symbol of peace, number one hero)

Midoriya Izuku - Earth. Has life on the planet, the only planet bestowed with life thanks to the sun. (KINDA LIKE… ONE FOR ALL)

Bakugou Katsuki - Venus. Zero chill, greenhouse effect, VOLCANOES EVERYWHERE (which contributes to erosion and therefore makes the surface very “new” - lowkey nod to Mama Bakugou’s quirk glycerin, making her eternally youthful), atmosphere that burns up pretty much everything before it can actually hit Venus’ surface (kinda like how Bakugou doesn’t really get close to people that much; they are often repelled/intimidated by his attitude). Secondary Atmosphere is almost entirely CO2 - because its temperatures are so high, water could never condense and bring CO2 to the crust. Venus never underwent the change that Earth and Mars had, remaining as it did with greenhouse effect => high temperatures; it never cooled off. (Bakugou is stubborn, change is very slow, still hot-headed with zero-chill af)

Uraraka Ochako - Saturn. Lots of gravity, really pretty to look at, can float on water (average density is less than water).

Todoroki Shouto - Mars. Cold and Red, Mars had a secondary atmosphere like Earth’s at one point - lost Primary Atmosphere like all the terrestrials, gained a secondary like Earth’s (caused by water condensing and falling to the crust, bringing CO2 with it). Suspected to have been substantially warmer earlier on in its life. As its core continues to cool, the planet itself cools.

Kaminari Denki - Uranus. Only planet that’s tilted on its side (he’s a dork), looks plain and boring but actually isn’t. (Kaminari seems like a joke character at first but hey! He has a personality too, has friends, cares about them, will defend them. He’s more complex than he looks, even though it isn’t much) Also, storm planet. (Electricity, lightning. Fire + wind, Bakugou and Kaminari)

Kirishima Eijirou - Neptune. Water planet, a pair with Uranus. (Kinda like a complimentary opposite of venus - water + lava (from venus) makes land, land = life (Bakugou, Kirishima, and Kaminari), goes from Raging Inferno to HOPE.)

Tokoyami Fumikage - Pluto probably. Because it’s the edgiest celestial body in our solar system, furthest from the sun (darkness aesthetic). Has a giant heart-shaped mark on its surface. (He’s a dork and not nearly as cool and edgy as he thinks.)

Todoroki Enji - Jupiter. Second largest object in the solar system, right behind mars, separated by asteroid belt. Extreme pressure (expectations on others/daunting presence) and multiple natural satellites (his own following, influence in the world). Big Red Spot. Jupiter’s coriolis effect/numerous wind cells (this guy has some inner conflicts and issues, man). Protects the Earth and inner planets but also kinda directs some asteroids towards us.

Todoroki’s Mom - Frost Line. (FROST. ICE QUIRK.) Located in the Asteroid Belt, not an actual object (we’ve only seen her, like, twice? She is Elusive), but a distance from the sun, separation between the terrestrials and Jovians. SEPARATES MARS FROM JUPITER. (she tried to protect Todoroki from Enji before)

Midoriya Inko - Ceres. Dwarf Planet, named after goddess of fertility and motherhood. (kind of out there away from the focal point; a little forgotten sometimes but also not)

Izumi Kouta - Moon. Created literally after a celestial object collided with earth. (“sorry I punched you in the dick”) Controls the tides (Kouta controls water)

Shigaraki Tomura - Mercury. Fully-formed planet before, but as it died, it’s liquid core shrank - causing wrinkles on its surface as the crust collapsed on itself. Dead, metal, and flakey. (His wrinkles. He could have had a bright future, but it died.) BUT ALSO NOT AS DEAD AS WE THOUGHT. Literally a recent finding. (Still has surprises for us, he is still a Mystery)

AfO - Black Hole. (Maybe his brother = a smaller star that turned into a white dwarf, while he = a black hole.) Giant black hole at the center of the Milky Way. (headcanon, but AfO is integrated in society in various ways without the government/hero associations knowing. He is old and influential, is a massive force. Like a black hole at the center of the galaxy)

Villains/League of Villains - Oort Cloud. Cluster of debris that surrounds the solar system; is kept at the far reaches of it. (Villains are the rejects of society, they try to stay as far away from All Might as possible)

Other students in Yuuei - Asteroid Belt.

Yuuei/Japan - Solar System. (has all of this stuff)

EXCERPT FROM CHAT (b/c I think it’s funny):

saisai-chan: YE AH i imagine the solar system is like either UA or japan specifically since AFO is the giant black hole at the center of the galaxy athanatosora: And honestly, AfO at the center - I have seen and have too many headcanons that he is integrated in society in various ways without the heroes knowing. He is too old and influential to not be saisai-chan: so he has influence all around athanatosora: YEAH saisai-chan: YEAH

Thomas Jefferson illegal smuggled Italian rice from Italy in 1787 to help boost the American economy by shoving it in his pockets. Just imagine Jerfferson walking as casually as possible with pockets full of rice trying not to get arrested.

can you give us more lafayette facts???? id like to know more about him and you seem to know what youre talking about

Ahh thank you!! I’ve loved him for years so I have a strangely large amount of knowledge about him and I’m happy to share it! <333

Lafayette Fun Facts: American Revolution Part Two 1778-1781

Lafayette returned home to France on February 12, 1779

He was greeted as a hero!!!

But King Louis XVI still put him under house arrest to show other nobles they couldn’t just disobey his orders

Lafayette did not abide by the house arrest lmao

He frequently met with Benjamin Franklin and became a diplomat for both France and America

He also sought the command of the French forces that were to set sail for America

But command was given to Rochambeau, who’d been fighting in wars since before Lafayette was born!

Lafayette was heartbroken and embarrassed that he, who knew the American army so well, was not given command of the French Army in America

While he was home he was with his wife, Adrienne, and they mourned the loss of their first child, Henriette, who had died in Spring 1777

He also got a portrait of Washington done based off of an American one he already had

He was seriously obsessed with getting portraits of Washington

He absolutely idolized the man

In Spring 1780 Lafayette set sail for American again

He had gone to the King’s Court in his American uniform to prove a point: that he’d been denied a place in the French Army, so he was taking up his one in the American Army again

America was super excited to have Lafayette back!

(While he was gone he missed one of his close friend’s, Alexander Hamilton, engagement!!)

Lafayette at first acted as a go-between for Washington and Rochambeau, but he proved to be too forthright (this is a theme for him)  for the job and ended up accidentally insulting Rochambeau

They all thought they would be attacking New York City once the French Fleet arrived

That plan started to look less and less likely, and they turned their attention to the southern theatre of the war

Washington gave Lafayette command of some 1, 200 men, mostly light infantry, with the order to take them to Yorktown and harass Cornwallis

Lafayette did an excellent job of it!!

Eventually he was told to really keep Cornwallis busy as the American and French forces secretly descended upon Yorktown, where Cornwallis was camped out

Cornwallis was soon trapped, and the Siege of Yorktown began

Lafayette was the commander of the charges on Redoubts 9 and 10

Hamilton was under his command, and led the charge of Redoubt 9

They won the redoubts in under 20 minutes!!!

This was a crucial part of the battle

And Lafayette emerged from it a true hero

Two days after this, Cornwallis surrendered

Lafayette, at the age of 24, had helped lead the American Army to victory

This forever endeared him to the American people, who at times over the course of Lafayette’s life, appreciated him more than the French

After this battle, Lafayette went back north with Washington before heading home, his service to America as a major general done

He embarked on his next mission: helping America and France become and remain great allies!

Thank you for reading!!! If you want more on Lafayette post-American Revolution let me know and I’d be happy to do a post on it! I’m always happy to talk about anything in early American history! <333

Saturn’s Atmosphere Exhibits A Banded Pattern Similar To Jupiter’s, But Saturn’s Bands Are Much

Saturn’s atmosphere exhibits a banded pattern similar to Jupiter’s, but Saturn’s bands are much fainter and are much wider near the equator. The nomenclature used to describe these bands is the same as on Jupiter. Saturn’s finer cloud patterns were not observed until the flybys of the Voyager spacecraft during the 1980s. Since then, Earth-based telescopy has improved to the point where regular observations can be made. The composition of the clouds varies with depth and increasing pressure.

The winds on Saturn are the second fastest among the Solar System’s planets, after Neptune’s. Voyager data indicate peak easterly winds of 500 m/s (1,800 km/h).

Thermography has shown that Saturn’s south pole has a warm polar vortex, the only known example of such a phenomenon in the Solar System. Whereas temperatures on Saturn are normally −185 °C, temperatures on the vortex often reach as high as −122 °C, suspected to be the warmest spot on Saturn.

ASTRO FACT: Jupiter is well known for being the fastest spinning planet in our solar system. Many wonder why this speedy spinning occurs. Inside the gas planet lives its guardian, the Speedo-Torpedo whaleshark. This majestic being is about 1/8th the size of the actual planet and is able to swim inside of it. To keep adventurers away from its treasure, the whaleshark swims in a circular pattern around the outer border at incredible speeds to keep it spinning on its axis so quickly. This also causes the storms which make it increasingly difficult for anyone to get to the center.
