I Haven’t Yet Seen A Tumblr Post With These Resources So I Am Making My Own And Hoping It Shows Up

I haven’t yet seen a tumblr post with these resources so I am making my own and hoping it shows up in the tags. I ASK EVERYONE WHO SEES THIS TO PLEASE REBLOG THIS.

THE INDIAN CHILD WELFARE ACT (ICWA) IS UNDER ATTACK. AND WE NEED HELP TO PROTECT IT USING THE RESOURCES BELOW.

I am not going to go into heavy detail on the bill, on its history, anything like that, the resources have a lot of information, but as a little bit of background:

It is a bill passed that forbids Native children from being adopted by non-Native families. This is for a good fucking reason, there have been historically large scoops of children taken from their Native families, at a much higher rate than white children (see the 60s scoop in Canada). These children are often abused in these homes, and their entire culture is taken from them (many end up not even knowing what tribe/nation they came from), hence the point of why they were taken in the first place (forced assimilation). Now, this does still happen through the foster care system, but this has protected in the case of adoption. It makes it that only Native families can adopt Native children.

White people hate this and have been smearing it for years (think of the whole Lexi Choctaw/Alexandria P. situation, which was so fucked how they used that little girl). Now, the state governments of Texas, Louisiana, and Indiana have taken it to the Supreme Court to be ruled unconstitutional. This case is called Haaland v. Brackeen. Because white people … really want to steal Native children. This is being heard by the court, oral arguments start WEDNESDAY. ICWA could be overturned in the matter of weeks or even days.

PLEASE USE ALL OF THESE TO PROTECT ICWA:

Petition that will involve you sending messages to your Congressional leaders through their text automated system, only available to those in the US (BUT NOTE YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A CITIZEN, OR ELIGIBLE TO VOTE TO SIGN, JUST NEED TO BE IN THE US):

https://resist.bot/petitions/PCCPGW

Petition to send a message to President Biden and leaders at the Department of Justice, this does have a place to put in your country so seems like it may be available for those outside of the US but I am unsure (consider also donating to the Lakota People’s Law Project if you are able to):

https://action.lakotalaw.org/action/protect-icwa

Petition to be sent to the Attorney General and Secretary of the Department of the Interior, since it is through change.org it likely can be signed from outside of the US:

https://www.change.org/p/protect-the-indian-child-welfare-act

PLEASE SIGN AS MANY AS YOU ARE ABLE TO. PLEASE REBLOG IF YOU SEE THIS. PLEASE HELP US PROTECT ICWA.

I was walking behind a woman for five minutes and she got catcalled three times.

I usually walk everywhere with my headphones on, but I had them in my bag and I was reading a book on my phone instead (I do that when the foot traffic is light).  A young Latina was coming down the street as I was coming up the avenue, and when she got to the corner a few paces ahead of me, she turned to walk in the direction I was going.  We were traveling at the same speed, but since she was like ten paces ahead and it’s bright outside in the middle of the day, I didn’t feel the need to fall back or slow down to give her more space. At night, I try not to walk too close behind women just so they don’t feel like I’m any sort of threat.

We got to a corner and this dude standing outside of the bodega was like, “Slow down mama where you goin? You don’t have to work today, you can stop and speak.”

She didn’t break her stride. “I’m going to the gym.”  The Walk sign was on, so I didn’t break mine either.

A block later, a young guy was coming toward us on the sidewalk riding his bike.

“What’s good shorty?”

She didn’t respond.

“Well you was lookin, you can say something, stuck up bitch.”

We kept walking.

In the middle of the next block, an older man was walking toward us and he put on a friendly smile and said, “Smile young lady, it’s a beautiful day.”

I don’t know if she smiled, but we kept walking. She went into the gym and I kept on toward where I was going thinking about how that was just five minutes of her day.  How many other blocks of five minutes are just like that?

Only one of them was truly aggressive. The other two guys seemed nice enough and it felt more like a pleasant compliment. It felt like the kind of thing a guy says who argues with women online about catcalling. “We’re not all bad guys. We can’t even compliment women? We can’t even say something nice?”

No.  You really can’t.  I was annoyed in that five minutes and I just happened to be walking behind her with no headphones on.  Can you imagine those five minutes over and over every day of your life?  Nobody wants to be spoken to by strangers day in and day out forever regardless of what they’re saying.

So no.  You can’t say anything. The quality of your life has not decreased because you aren’t allowed to say nice things to strange women on the sidewalk, but your silence greatly increases the quality of hers.  So just be quiet, and let her go where she’s going.

percabeth + in the storm?? if u want to ofc💞💞💞

It’s an innocent thing, dancing in the rain. At a certain point you resign yourself to being soaked to the bone, and you take this moment to turn your face to the grey sky, to dance in the face of a force of nature.

Percy and Annabeth are caught in such a storm on their way to Annabeth’s dorm. Initially they attempt to wait it out at Sally’s, but between Annabeth’s strict curfew and Percy’s water powers, the usual excuses to stay in for the night don’t hold up for long.

He walks her back with their fingers laced and wrists crossed as always, but it serves more of a purpose now. Raindrops skirt around the couple, or maybe they hit an invisible barrier above them to keep out of the way. It doesn’t matter. What matters is the way the storm clouds reflect in Annabeth’s eyes.

She’s several minutes into a rant about columns and arches that Percy lost track of after ten seconds, but he tries to keep up, to find something to quote back to her when she ends up repeating herself. Her face will soften, she’ll bite her bottom lip the way she does when she’s flustered, and Percy’s brain turning to mush from the mental gymnastics necessary to keep up with her will be worth it.

Ideally, he could do that now. But she’s just so radiant even in a gloomy city; the sun has abandoned New York for the time being, but Annabeth is bright enough to light it all up.

Unable to stop himself, Percy tugs on her hand and pulls her to him, interrupting her rant with a kiss. Terrible manners, but judging by the content hum in the back of Annabeth’s throat, she’ll forgive him.

Annabeth pulls Percy closer, pressing up on her toes and wrapping her arms around his neck. She always does this after she gets passionate about something, even when Percy has the self-control to watch her without interrupting. When he asked, she said it was the way he looked at her. That was the extent of her explanation, but Percy has seen the way people look at beautiful things: all softness, slack jaw, and twinkling eyes. It’s hard to imagine himself looking at her with anything less.

Rain is the last thing on Percy’s mind when he’s got Annabeth so close—he swears that girl does things to his brain. All at once, his shield fails and cold rain seeps into their clothes.

Annabeth yelps and jumps back, then turns to Percy with a glare that is somehow both endeared and murderous. Like any sane person, he bolts.

She takes off after him as he sprints in the direction of her dorm. Water pelts Percy’s face, rejuvenating him until his stride overtakes Annabeth’s, much to her fury. He’s able to plant himself in the concrete and catch her, using her momentum to throw her over his shoulder in victory.

She nearly takes his eye out with a flailing shoe, so he settles for putting her down long enough to tug her close again and to splash in the puddles for some ridiculous dance. This time she’s all endearment; joy splits her face in a grin as water falls into her eyes, her gaze fixed on Percy.

They dance in the rain like fools for the whole block to see. People holed up in their apartments might scoff at the idiots in love on the sidewalk below, but they don’t know the joy of dancing in the rain. Carefree moments don’t come so easily to Percy and Annabeth, two people who care so deeply. They have to take these moments as they come.

It’s an innocent thing, falling in love. At a certain point you resign yourself to being soaked to the bone, and you take this moment to turn your face to the grey sky, to dance in the face of a force of nature.

Jealous percy drabble? Yes please if you could that'd be great!!

Percy loves spending time with his friends—he really does—but time and experience have shown him that the definition of quality time varies wildly within their group.

For Percy, quality time is laid back: a nighttime drive without a destination, full belly laughs filling the living room, sandy toes washed clean after that first step into the ocean. After all they’ve had to endure, it’s these pockets of serenity that he loves most.

Piper is a different story. She sees their time spent in boarding schools and on quests as missed opportunities. After all these years fighting for their lives, Piper argues that they’ve hardly had a chance to live them.

College separates the seven of them to different universities on different coasts, so moments where they’re all in the same place are few and far between. When those moments come, Piper’s excited energy resonates with the entire group, and they end up doing something wild each time.

Except they is a loose term. They is a group that consists of Piper, Leo, Annabeth, Hazel, and Frank (in that order) while Percy and Jason act as the designated sober group parents.

“I guess we did this to ourselves, huh?” Percy nudges Jason with his shoulder while waiting on their girlfriends’ drinks.

Riptide Chapter 3

The street outside the bookstore is quieter than usual. It’s just about closing time and Percy is shelving all the books who were moved from their nooks through the course of the day. Sally is cleaning the coffee counter, snacking on the last cookie in the display case and humming a song that Percy can’t quite place.

“Where have I heard that before?” he asks, rounding the corner of the nearest bookcase.

Sally smiles without looking up from what she’s doing. “It was one of your dad’s favorites. Every time it was on the radio, he’d turn it all the way up and sing along. Badly.”

Percy laughs. “So I got my singing voice from him?”

Sally looks up then. “Of course. I mean, I sing like an angel so it couldn’t be me.”

They continue their customary movements around the store, making sure all the tables are clean, the books are put away, and the oven is off, before heading to the back office.

It’s a small, unimpressive space with just enough room for two people, three if necessary. There is a small wooden desk that Percy remembers helping his dad build, still being able to note the by P+P carved into one of its legs. He runs his hand over it as he sits down, feeling comforted by its graininess against his skin.

Sally puts on her reading glasses and opens up her ledger, making notes of the days profits. “How we lookin?” Percy asks.

Sally sighs contentedly and leans back in her chair. “To be honest, we’re killing it.”

Percy smiles and lifts his hand for a high-five which Sally returns gleefully. “I knew it. Big book chains eat your heart out.”

As she sits back, she begins to simply watch Percy, who squirms under her gaze.

“Don’t do that thing,” he says.

“What thing?” she asks, playing dumb.

“That thing where you watch me and use your mom witchcraft to just like, get everything out of me.”

She smiles and shrugs. “Can’t help it, just comes naturally.”
