2024 tumblr: yea im jackin it to this clown vore video but im only into these kinks ironically
I thought that Hopepunk was just part of the broader what I'mma call Xpunk - where X is a thing, and punk actually just means future for some reason.
If grimdark isn't a genre, does that mean hopepunk isn't, either?
(With reference to this post here.)
"Hopepunk" is basically the culmination of nerd culture's mistaken propensity to treat genre as a prescriptive checklist of tropes. The term's proponents invented a definition of a genre of media they believed ought to exist, then went about looking for examples of media that fit that definition. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way – genres in media are something that can only be identified after the fact, as a description of emergent trends in the dialogue between creators. If you try to declare a genre into existence by fiat and work backwards to figure out which media belong to it by going down a checklist of tropes, you just end up with a random grab-bag of works which aren't meaningfully in dialogue with each other.
(Some definitions of "hopepunk" do admittedly somewhat resemble romantic fantasy, particularly the late 1980s to early 1990s strand, but as far as I can tell this is coincidental – it's abundantly clear that most of the term's proponents have never read a Mercedes Lackey novel!)
While solid evidence for your survivability, it does not evidence running speed. You may, perhaps, be some sort of stable geographical feature, such as a valley or a mountain.
why didn't they just leave pompeii when the volcano erupted? were they stupid?
... Okay, so, like - what's on with aunt cassie?
"How could you do this" with the help of the demon blade "this isn't you" well yeah it's me and the demon blade "I know you're a good person" yeah that wasn't in question "please come home" not if you're gonna be a dick to the demon blade "we need to destroy the demon blade" listen I don't come to family gatherings and say we Need To Destroy aunt cassie and she's genuinely evil, unlike the demon blade
I'm... fairly confident you don't need to be familiar with the source material to understand. I've not seen this part before and my understanding of the overall source material is entirely from Tumblr, and yet, am entirely confident I understand the vibe.
Also, surprised it took seeing both of your reblogs to realise who, exactly, left those tags.
I used to be a very unemotive person before I transitioned but in recent years emotions have become a lot more intense and they make it to my face a lot easier. Sometimes I'll think of something funny and just full on laugh to myself like an idiot like
I feel like most of these titles are either obvious or likely to be about the other thing, which so happens to be made of bubblegum - though TBF, I had pinned Bubblegum Crisis as likely to be either that second one or about the bubblegum supply running out, and it sounds like it isn't - but I'm properly unsure of what's up with "bubblegumshoe". I could quite easily see Bubblegumshoe as being about bubblegum gumshoes, bubble gumshoes, bubblegum shoes, or some combination thereof, after all.
While reorganising my media library I did a quick survey of word frequency in tabletop RPG titles (because I'm the sort of dweeb who thinks "hey, I should do word frequency analysis for no reason"), and while the results were largely unremarkable, it turns out I have like four different games whose titles contain the word "bubblegum".
