“The worst pain in the world is shame. I spend a lot of time trying to not do anything bad to anyone, but you can’t live your life and not hurt people. Pretty recently, I did something that I’m really not proud of, and it shocked me. I thought, “I’m a really fucking bad person.” But I realized that something good came out of it because now I have to be a lot less judgmental of others. Everything can make you a more compassionate person if you use it that way.”

Mid-June?, 1972: John talks to Sandra Shevey about having a partner who fulfills both creative and romantic aspirations, and the disorienting experience of working with Yoko for the first time as competitive equals in the recording studio on Some Time In New York City. (Note: @sweating-cobwebs, consider this is my gift to you.)
JOHN: It’s a plus, it’s not a minus. The plus is that your best friend, also, can hold you without… I mean, I’m not a homosexual, or we could have had a homosexual relationship and maybe that would have satisfied it, with working with other male artists. [faltering] An artist – it’s more – it’s much better to be working with another artist of the same energy, and that’s why there’s always been Beatles or Marx Brothers or men, together. Because it’s alright for them to work together or whatever it is. It’s the same except that we sleep together, you know? I mean, not counting love and all the things on the side, just as a working relationship with her, it has all the benefits of working with another male artist and all the joint inspiration, and then we can hold hands too, right?
SHEVEY: But Yoko is a very independent person. Isn’t it— [inaudible]
JOHN: Sure, and so were the men I worked with. The only difference is she’s female.
SHEVEY: But you didn’t find it difficult to make that transition?
JOHN: Oh yeah. I mean, it took me four years. I’m still not – I’m still only coming through it, you know.
this day will not and shouldnt be centered around her or sean or julian, but i noticed a yoko’s post so i will say this really quickly
while i will forever acknowledge yoko witnessed a very traumatizing event, and i’m upset she had to as much as i dislike her, her taking that picture of john’s glasses is absolutely disgusting and disturbing. we don’t know what it was like to see him be murdered, but we do not need to see what his glasses looked like after being shot. we don’t need that at all. it’s disgusting alone the picture exists, but she used it as an album cover, and now posts it every chance she gets. whether it’s her or some estate posting it, it’s being posted chance possible, and it’s disgusting. this day is about remembering the beautiful soul we lost. it’s not about seeing that picture every year.
if i hadn’t made it clear, i do not like yoko. i am aware she unfortunately had to witness that, but that is no excuse for taking that picture and spreading it for the world to see. we may not have known him like she did, but i know we do not want to see it. even if it wasn’t john lennon, no one would want to see someone’s bloodied glasses that were worn the day they were murdered. it’s not art, it’s not showing anything positive.
we miss that man dearly, and we do not want to see that picture year when we are trying to remember the beautiful soul that was lost that many love.
if my future husband were to have gotten shot and killed and i got his glasses, i would NOT take a picture of them and display it for the world to see every single year. i wouldn’t even think of doing it. because it is disgusting.
i don’t care if it is her or her estate or whatever that controls her social media’s posting it, the picture shouldn’t exist. but it definitely be spread the way it is. every time i see that photo my heart literally shatters.
the john lennon estate needs to be fucking destroyed. it’s branding “john&yoko happy true love” when that relationship was toxic and exploits him as much as they can. it’s her only source of income because she won’t survive without him. no one knew who she was until she got with john. exploiting john is her only big source of income because her work alone is fucking bad and won’t give her enough to survive like john’s work has.
if me talking about yoko like this upsets you, you can unfollow. i don’t care. this blog does not like or support yoko and will gladly stand on that hill. let the trash take itself out.

just saying but most iconic front women from rock/music history have had lesbian relationships. janis joplin? joan jett? josephine baker? debbie harry? amy winehouse? the godmother, the QUEEN, of all rock music sister rosetta tharpe? ALL have expressed in public (or private) their attraction for women as well as men. lesley gore, the 60s pop artist who gave us “you don’t own me”? a lesbian. ma rainey, a blues artist who gave us one of the first recordings of actual, non-subtextual lesbian content in “prove it on my blues”. and these are just the women who are, for the most part, well-known for their music and image. women who love women have done so much for music, and this is most likely only scratching the surface
