AU Time!

AU time!

Eragon AU!

Shades in Eragon are sorcerers who were overtaken by the spirits they tried to control. They aren't just a single person, but a legion of spirits trapped in an unfortunate victim's body. They crave violence and blood to fill the hole inside them. Canonically, they have red hair and red eyes. The only way to kill them is by stabbing them through the heart. They are masters of magic and monsterously strong. Cunning and intelligent, there is a reason only two people in history ever survived slaying a Shade.

They also lose all memory of their previous life.

Technoblade was a teenager when he was offered to study as a sorcerer. He had an aptitude for magic and a thirst for knowledge, so when a slightly sketchy person offered to train him, he took them up on the offer. He didn’t trust them, but he though he could use them to learn and then leave.

He didn't get a chance.

Shades can also be MADE. A team of magicians can force a person to be made into a Shade. And those with unethical curiousity see no reason not to experiment with that process. To try to understand the world while using the vulnerable as expermental material.

Technoblade couldn’t take on four trained sorcerers. He also had no training to prevent the invasion of spirits into his mind and soul. He only had his own willpower, his identity tossed about like a tiny stone in a rushing river, a torrent of rage and hatred and cruelty threatening to stamp out everything he was.

And in a way, it does. He doesn't remember who he was. He doesn't remember his name. But a part of him survives. Maybe that's why his hair doesn't turn red, but stays pink. Maybe that's why the spirits shriek for blood and violence, but cannot control his steps. Something inside him remained, his incredibly force of will not crushed by the machinations of the cruel.

Technoblade still slaughters them, though.

He knows he was someone, and he knows those sorcers took that from him. So he is all too willing to follow the screams in his ears and to tear the arrogant magicians apart.

But afterwards? What is he supposed to do?

The voices crave blood. They want him to carve a bloody swathe across all of Algaesia. But he doesn't want that. It won't fill the emptiness in his chest. He knows that.

So he wanders.

He hides his hair. Hides his eyes. Shades are feared for good reason, hunted by powerful individuals. He wanders and learns. He sees the sea. He sees the mountains. He gazes at the dwarven caverns. He visits the bustling cities. He secretly visits Urgal villages. He watches Dragons fly through the sky of Vroengard. He wants to wander the elvish forests of Du Weldenvarden-

But something was happening there. Even the spirits of violence seem perturbed by the waves of angry magic pouring from those trees.

Instead, he heads north.

Into the ice and snow, following tales of interest. There are apparently semi-volcanic patches if you know where to look. That must be an interesting sight.

He stumbles across a man in the snow.

The man is probably human? It's hard to tell. Human Dragonriders start to look slightly elvish after a time. That would certainly be more likely than a half-elf, but there is no dragon to be seen.

The voices want him to kill the man, but Technoblade disagrees.

Technoblade rescues the man, bringing him to a cave and stoking a fire. He warms the man's limbs, checks on his breathing, does what he can to resuscitate him.

The man survives. His name is Philza.

Philza was a dragonrider. Emphasis on the WAS. He had been assigned a task by the Dragonrider council and, in fulfilling his duty, his Dragon was slain. Not entirely, as the Dragon's eldunarí (Their heart of hearts, their soul) still existed. But Philza's dragon had no body.

Philza had worked for centuries on a spell that would give his dragon a physical form. It was tireless work with many setbacks. But after years and years of work, he had managed it. It would work. He was sure of it.

The Council forbid him to use it.

They said it was too dangerous. They said it was too wrong. That it shouldn't exist at all. The amount of energy it required would be astronomical.

Philza argued that Dragons do the impossible with magic all the time. That if his dragon could find the inspiration to cast the spell for themself, then energy cost would not even factor.

They still refused.

It became a heated discussion.

Then it became a fight.

Philza and his dragon lost.

The council was cruel. They decided that this was high treason and destroyed Philza's Dragon's eldunarí. Philza had to deal with his soul's bond, his dragon, his closest's friends presence be torn from his mind. It is the worst sensation a Dragonrider can go through. Even experiencing his Dragon's mortal death could not compare.

They then stripped Philza of even the memory of his Dragon's name and tossed him into the snowy tundra, condeming him to either die or lose his mind.

Technoblade listens to this story with sympathy, and with the voices screaming in his ear. Technoblade has dealt with a hole in his chest and a lack of purpose for ages now. Seeing Philza, who had a whole part of his soul and life's purpose ripped from him, he feels a kinship. And he gives Philza his advice.

"Those who treat me with kindness, I will repay that kindness tenfold.

And those that treat with injustice, that use me, that hunt me down, that hurt my friends, I shall repay that injustice a thousand times over."

The two of them plot, in that little cave in the northern snow. They plot for a new world. A world where none can tell them who they should be, how they should act. They plot to destroy the systems that could create such broken people as them.

They plot their own empire, a downfall to the Riders who have corrupted the land.

Anyway, Philza as a better Galbatorix and Techno as a better Durza. They aren't going to lose to the power of friendship and love because they have that in spades.

I'm keeping like 5 of these amazing Lenn AU asks hostage in my inbox at this point so I suppose I better start posting them kekw

I should say I know nothing about Eragon but this is very fun <3 Even if my lack of knowledge about the source material means I have no idea what happens next. The Shade lore is really cool :D

With the Dark Royal SBI thing, it reminded me of the practice of Noble Hostages. Like, as part of a peace treaty, a member of the losing side's royal family has to stay at the Winning side's Court. Not necessarily as family, but the hostages are treated well as long as their home doesn't start shit. I think this might just be a fantasy fiction/webcomic trope, but oh well, still fun.

So, imagine. Emperor Phil soundly defeats some dinky little country and negotiates their surrender. They have to send one of the Princes/Princesses as a hostage.

Well, they aren't going to send the Crown Prince, that's a given. Too important, that's the future of the country (which they stubbornly believe will someday escape Emperor Phil's grasp). And the younger princes/princess are too young.

So Techno gets sent. Technically second in line for the Dinky Country's throne, but no one really paid much attention to him politically. He's quiet, doing his own thing without bothering others. His older brother is always busy with learning all the crown prince things. His younger siblings are cute, but they are small. So so small. His parents are busy running a country, a country that just lost a WAR. He's not interested in politics or power, so the nobility ignore him. No interest in the throne, just wants to read, and ride horses, and study swordplay.

Maybe he's a little lonely, but he isn't completely alone at home.

He had friends at his home: his teachers, the librarian, the sous-chef who made the best potato dishes. At Emperor Phil's Court, he has no one. And while he is NOT a people person, it's still very nervewracking to be completely alone.

Especially scary because everyone at Emperor Phil's court is trying to get the guy's favor. Dude has destroyed a lot of countries. And a lot of countries want a little more power under his rule.

Technically speaking, Technoblade should be trying to do that. That's what his parents encouraged. But it's just-he can't. He's just a little guy who likes books, horses, and swords. He doesn't DO politics and making alliances. And he feels guilty about not doing more, but he is well aware that he can make things SO MUCH WORSE for his people if he fucks it up. And the pressure is too much so he just- does what he normally does.

He reads, he practices swordplay, he visits the stables.

Or he tries to.

The moment he sets foot in the palace, Prince Wilbur latches on and seemingly never lets go. When Technoblade is in the library, suddenly Wilbur is there. When he is sparring, Wilbur is on the sidelines glaring when his partner gets a little too rough. And Wilbur tells Technoblade all the horses very odd names.

He thinks that Wilbur looks sort of familiar? Like a kid he had played with at a foreign event before the war? That had been fun. It was a very nice memory. But that kid had been FURIOUS when Technoblade's parents had called him back. That kid had been WRATHFUL when Technoblade's parents had looked down on the kid. And Technoblade can't imagine Wilbur, always smiling looking like he had been given a gift Wilbur, ever having such a furious expression. Can't be the same kid.

Because Techno is always dragged beside Wilbur, he inevitably sees a lot of Phil and Tommy. Phil is kind, which is shocking because of his reputation. And Tommy is a menace, which is unshocking because he's, like, 5.

And like, Techno starts to just always be around them. They go out of their way to include him. And the first time he accidentally fell asleep on Wilbur's bed, Wilbur never lets him sleep anywhere else.

And it all goes to shit when Technoblade's dad dies.

He gets the news and he is upset, obviously. Wilbur seems pretty unbothered by it, but Technoblade assumes that that is normal. Its not like it was Wilbur's Dad that died. Whatsmore, Technoblade wants to go to the funeral. His family is begging him to come home for the funeral, if not also the coronation.

Wilbur is coldly against it, and won't listen to Technoblade’s begging. When Technoblade threatens to run away if he has to, Wilbur is furious and rushes off to grab Phil.

Phil enters and sees an incredibly upset Technoblade and an angry Wilbur and reaches a compromise.

It wouldn't be odd for the whole imperial family to go to the funeral. And while the invitation had really only been meant for Technoblade, Phil was sure they wouldn't be stupid enough to refuse.

Technoblade is so very grateful. And all of them go to the funeral. And Technoblade arrives back home to a... colder welcome than he had anticipated.

Like, no one would really look him in the eye. They didn't seem MAD, more guilty than anything. Sad, but not really about the dead kind. Which is confusing. When his Mother sees him, she grabs him into a hug and sobs, no thoughts on decorum. Technoblade has no clue what is happening. His older brother seems even more guilty, sneaking glances at the Emperor.

The funeral is a sad, and very confusing event.

A week after the funeral, Technoblade's home country declares war.

Which, as a political hostage, Technoblade's life is forfeit. He should be executed for his family's treason.

He's locked into his room for a day, a week, a month. Food is brought to him but not seeing a single person.

Well, besides the imperial family. They reassure him that they are doing everything they can, tons of really boring paperwork, Wilbur practically constricting him with how tight he holds.

And then something changes. Wilbur rushes in the door, early in the morning when Technoblade was still asleep and urges Techno to get dressed. Techno does, and Wilbur tows him along, a massive amount of guards around them that no one will explain, and then they get to the courtyard and Technoblade stops breathing at seeing an executioner on a scaffold.

But Wilbur isn't pulling Technoblade that way, he pulls him to where Tommy and Phil are seated comfortably. A raised box with a cloth overhang. Wilbur pushes Technoblade into his seat and Phil pats Technoblade's head fondly. Technoblade's confusion turns quickly to horror.

He sees his mother. His older brother. And a large group of nobility led through the courtyard in chains and burlap. Technoblade pleads with Phil to stop, begs for their lives. But Phil ignores him.

When his pleas turn to threats, Phil holds him too close, too tightly, and claims that Technoblade belonged to them now. That it was official. According to Imperial Law, Technoblade was now a part of the Imperial Family.

And as Technoblade watches his family die, his new family grips him all the tighter.

I was going to make some joke about wanting to read this full fic ASAP but honestly the ask is so detailed and good it feels like I already read a whole fic (wouldn't complain about more though)

Okay, I put the Barbie Rapunzel AU to the side. I am now making this new Fae AU my mobile writing project.

Basic plotline.

King and Queen can't have a kid and a sketchy fae says he will give them a beautiful child sweeter than honey. The catch is that the second child they have belongs to him.

They agree, thinking they just won't have a second child. They just need one.

They have their first child and he's utterly perfect, definitely slightly magical but whatever they wanted a kid.

Four years later, the Queen gives birth to another child, oops. A perfect baby girl.

And by perfect, I mean PERFECT. The kid is definitely magical, duh.

The King and Queen were actually going to hold to the deal they made, but one glance at this child and they think "Nope, our child."

The Fae get's pissed and tells them that if they do not give him the child, one more precious than gold, then all their family will die by their second child's eighteeth birthday.

Still they refuse, and the fae leaves angry.

Two years later and the queen has a third child.

She names him Techno. And he's not really magical at all.

He's got strangely red eyes, but other than that he's a normal guy. Talented with a sword and smart as a whip. But when compared to the perfection of his siblings, he just falls short.

His parents aren't mean about it, but they do unintentionally pay more attention to his soblings than him. Kinda hard not to when your other kids have a magical pull.

But Techno isn't bothered. He is a prince, but he mostly does whatever he wants. He can't leave the palace without guards because of the fae's threat, but he still finds a way to explore. He grows close to the servants and workers in the palace, but his family is just always...distant.

Which makes sense, he's not hurt by that at all. (He is. He is hurt by it.)

Anyway, the years pass and the Heir and the Princess grow more enchanting and the people adore them. Everyone is tripping over themselves to please them.

But mostly? Everyone is trying to find a way to stop the fae's curse. To find a way to erase the deal.

Consulting the magical people of the realm, the only way to safely break the deal would be to have the Queen of the Fae negate it.

Which starts the plan to lawyer their way out of the deal.

Basically, they are going to petition the Fae Queen to end the deal, bringing as many people to plead their case. To beg. To save the Princess and the Royals.

The Fae Queen agrees to hear their argument.

But not until a week before the Princess's 18th birthday.

So, all Techno's life, the entire Kingdom is preparing what to say to the Fae queen to end this deal. Writing long speeches, or poems, or creating art. All of which can only tell the truth, no lies or cunning allowed with the fae.

The moment comes when Techno is 16, and all the Kingdom that are able travel to the Fairy Lands. The royals are the last to leave.

First the King and the Heir leave with a massive group of knights.

Then, the Queen and Princess leave with a huge party of servants.

Finally, Prince Techno leaves, with only a handful of knights and a single magician.

(He was technically supposed to be with the Queen and Princess, but he convinced them to let him go on his own. And, for reasons that are secret, they agreed)

Techno and his party come across a man with a cart, the cart wheel broken and goods scattered around. The man isn't moving to pick them up, merely looking down the road furious and shocked.

Techno and his knights stop and offer help.

The blond man agrees, and Techno and his knights help him fix the cart and gather what goods they can back into the cart. Techno personally goes to find the man's horse, as it had escaped.

When he comes back, the man seems almost shocked that he found the horse. Techno laughs and says he's good with animals. The man seems more interested in him now, before having seemed bored.

Techno asks where the man was going, and he respons the Fairy Realm. Techno offers for them to accompany him, since they are heading the same direction. That way he won't be stranded if his cart breaks again.

The man agrees and tells Techno his name.

His name is Phil.

And as Techno escorts the man, talking and laughing and being himself, Phil, the fae in disguise, begins to change his mind.

He would much rather have the third child than the second.

...

So yeah, that's going to be my phone project! It will be fun. It is not allowed to be more than 3 chapters, though.

Kaladin is my favorite character because hes 6’8, hopelessly heroic, probably one of the strongest characters in the story that isnt a deity, is always looked up to and seen as an AMAZING dude

But he reads as a teenage girl

a small, highlighted excerpt from The Way of Kings. "Syl sat on Kaladin’s shoulder. Or hovered on it. Whatever."

Same man nicknamed “stormblessed” in a world where storms are holy.
