It is! The headcanon anon!!! I shall give you four fluffy, somewhat cat!Atsushi headcanons right now to make you smile 💜💜💜 Hopefully these are as cute as I think they are! Regardless of how plausible they may or may not be, though, they do make me smile- Hopefully. They can do that for you, too!

- Much like actual tigers will groom each other and their young, Atsushi will also do this!!! It’s primarily reserved for the baby siblings (IE- Kyōka, Lucy, and Kenji), and it’s done in a more human fashion, but I’ve always imagined that he’ll start idly brushing their hair if it’s messy or it he just doesn’t have anything to do with his hands. He’s surprisingly good at giving them cute hairstyles!!!

- I like to imagine that the ADA has an unspoken rule that you Are Not allowed to move if Atsushi falls asleep on you… Like if someone’s pet falls asleep on your lap, you know?

- He bleps sometimes. I’m sorry, I don’t make the rules. He kitty, he blep.

- Okay so this one might be more funny that fluffy but I feel like the idea of Atsushi chasing a laser pointer is too good to ignore??? Ranpo would absolutely fuck with him using one and it makes me giggle.

Look no I love these and now I'm also stuck thinking about Atsushi being very particular about Dazai's bandages. One starts fraying, they get stained, anything and he's fretting

BUT

he also has the deep urge to bat at them all the time and the struggle is so so real

Since Atsushi is a cat I think Dazai would want to communicate on his level :D family bonding time

I know I've talked about this before but thinking about Atsushi with tiger traits. Thinking about his eyes glowing at night if any light hits them and night vision. Enhanced hearing that causes a lot of sensory overload, especially during storms. Slightly hissing that just sounds like air leaving his mouth if he gets extremely startled, for example, someone waking him up from a nightmare. But it was something he would get punished for at the orphanage so it only makes anxiety worse.

Lately I’ve been really enamoured with the idea that the tiger is like. a secondary personality in atsushi’s head that he can speak to, and occasionally the living incarnation of gremlin brain

atsushi, grocery shopping: okay so i’ve saved enough coupons to eat this week tiger: fish. eat. consume! atsushi: no, i’m not transforming in the middle of the supermarket so you can go apeshit on the raw fish section. tiger: but….fish prey atsushi: but money can and should be exchanged for goods and services tiger: useless square leaves.

atsushi: smiling is a display of affection, okay? tiger: baring your teeth is a challenge and an invitation to fight or submit atsushi: well, how would you show affection? tiger: slow blink to display trust. rub scent glands against them. chuff. curl around to share warmth. atsushi: that’s– listen I know I had a weird childhood deprived of affection, but I really don’t think that’s how it works. tiger: ….bring prey for them to consume? atsushi: no. i still haven’t been able to look Kunikida in the eyes ever since you left the dead rat on his back porch tiger: was gift. atsushi: he doesn’t eat rats! tiger:…bring mouse? atsushi: you know this would be a lot easier if you didn’t keep suggesting dead animals the rest of the ADA, who’s been watching this one sided exchange go down: 0_0

anytime atsushi gets excited his tail pops out and wags but no one tells him becuz they think its funny to see atsushi try and pretend he's not excited and act nonchalant

bet atsushi never takes time off becuz idk he doesn't think he can - like he knows he can but he also doesn't think he can

that doesn't make sense but i hope u get it

anyway he never requests time off - he's only not there if he's sick (and was bullied into resting) or something like he personally never puts in the request

if there's some festival or event or anything that anyone thinks atsushi would want to go and would go if not for work they let the boss man know

fukuzawa: atsushi, you haven't taken much time off, but it's good to take a break now and then. if you want, you can have monday and tuesday off. (which weirdly is the exact time that that one event u wanted to go to is on but obviously thats just a coincidence)

atsushi, tail wagging: oh that's alright

HC that even under Fukuzawa's ability Atsushi gets moody as it gets closer to the full moon. He gets more easily irritated and tiger features like his fangs and ears pop out more often than usual. Even though the president can suppress the full transformation Byakko WILL want to do kitty things on the full moon and make it everyone else's problem that she can't

My only "pet peeve" about Cat Like-Atsushi stories

I don't know if anyone else cares about it, but I care about it so imma talk about it.

Tigers cannot purr.

Basically Roaring and Purring are exclusive. Cats who can purr can not roar and cats who can roar can not purr. Tigers roar, they do not purr.

Now honestly, it doesn't bother me too much, as purring is adorable and Atsushi being able to purr while human can be explained away by "Oh human vocal cords aren't strong enough to roar, so when he's human he can purr instead", but i would like to see some roaring atsushi fics.

Like, maybe Dazai's teasing goes a little too far one day and he roars to warn Dazai to get out of his face, or Kyouka gets lost in a crowd and he roars to find her out of instinct, or if you wanna get shippy he roars as a way to get Akutagawa's attention.

I guess I just wish Tiger habits were explored more was apposed to him just being compared to a domestic cat.

Edit: Unrelated, but you know how Snow Leopards carry their tails around in their mouths? I know tigers don't do it, but I kinda wanna see Atsushi do that. Like his tail pops out when he's nervous and he walks around with it in his mouth. Idk it just sounds cute.
