atsushi with more cat/tiger behaviors but some lesser discussed ones:

he scratches all the doorways of the agency building and his dorm. kunikida scolds him for damaging property for over an hour but while he apologizes he’s strangely uncontrite (at least for atsushi who tends to overapologize) about it

a mostly nocturnal sleep schedule feels the most natural to him but since his orphanage’s schedule was (quite literally) beaten into him, he regularly wakes up early, though after a long mission or multiple in a row, he tends to sleep through the day instead.

when really frustrated (usually during an argument with akutagawa) he has a tendency to stomp his feet. it tends to break the tension, and atsushi finds its super embarrassing. akutagawa finds it cute

he’s constantly fighting the urge to sit on his coworkers desks while they’re working and distract them. same with knocking things off their desks.

head bunting!!!! he first starts doing it to kyouka after the end of the guild plot. just does it to her one morning while they’re cooking breakfast without realizing. he’s mortified for a moment until kyouka does it back, equally shy yet earnest about it. slowly he catches himself doing it to the rest of the agency: when kenji gives him a hug after a mission, when yosano buys him something he was looking at during a shopping trip, while sharing lunch with the tanizakis, to ranpo after atsushi solves his first mystery on own, to kunikida and dazai after a dangerous mission. he hasn’t worked himself up to doing it to the president yet (and fukuzawas kind of sad about it). dazai and kunikida are the most flustered by it, kenji and kyouka do it back to him the most.

as much as he hates being locked up or confined against his will (and he really hates it), he genuinely loves being in small spaces. he sleeps in the closest for kyoukas privacy but he does geniunely feel comfortable there. sometimes he eats lunch under his desk or in the supply room if he’s feeling stressed. dazai did give him a giant box once to see if he’d sit in it and he totally did.

he tends to suck on the corners of blankets and things like his shirts or sweaters when he’s asleep or distracted. dazai used to tease him for it until he read that it was often found cats taken to soon from their mothers. he didn’t really find it funny after that

he will just Stare at people. agency members look up from their work and will see him looking directly at them. he usually snaps out of it right after and apologizes but just like slow blinks and winks and closing his eyes, he starts doing it more and more as he gets in tune with his ability.

naomi: hey atsushi do you have an extra-

atsushi, not even looking up from his work, just reaching into his desk and pulling out a hamster:

naomi: thanks but i was gonna ask for a pencil

atsushi, taking back the hamster and putting it back inside his desk and giving her a pencil:

when people draw atsushi with a phone they always give him an iphone or just a phone with a touchscreen and it hurts my heart so much. we have to stop ignoring his little flip phone. he doesn't need social media either we have to keep him as chronically offline as possible. atsushi doesn't know what discourse is. if you showed him a meme he'd stare at it for a bit and go "i don't get it" while handing the phone back to you. when he sat in front of an agency laptop for the first time he holds his head in his hands because he doesn't know what the hell to do

Aftercare {Shin Soukoku}

“Plehehehease! Ryuu! I cahahan’t— I can’t take anymohohore!” Atsushi wheezed as Akutagawa tickled him relentlessly. Akutagawa raised an eyebrow, but then noted just how exhausted Atsushi was. His face was flushed pink and his eyes looked teary. He couldn’t always handle being tickled for this long, and Akutagawa knew he had definitely had more than enough.

Akutagawa pulled back from his hips and sat awkwardly, unsure of where to place his hands. He finally settled for rubbing Atsushi’s head gently. Atsushi was still giggling, but he leaned into Akutagawa’s touch anyway, smiling.

“Do you need anything?” Akutagawa asked, suddenly worried. He hadn’t meant to tickle Atsushi for as long as he did, he just got carried away sometimes listening to his laugh and watching his reactions. Atsushi shook his head, letting his head fall back into the couch pillow. Akutagawa frowned.

sskk living together but aku has a cat so whenever he goes "pspsps" to the cat while hes laying on the couch he just hears thudding and has five seconds to move before atsushi jumps onto him Cat: Akutagawa: Akutagawa: Pspsps- ah shit. *insert atsushi, going 40 mph, before tackling akutagawa*

Just as a side note to the Runaway sskk au: Kyouka is saved from the mafia by Akutagawa.

Atsushi was never the level that og!Akutagawa was as a mentor, but Kyouka was scared as fuck of him because he never took human form near her and was always watching from afar, so she frequently felt like walking on eggshells and like he would kill her if she made the slightest slip during any of her missions.

In reality Atsushi was just trying to look out for her in a way a tiger will usually deal with a cub close to the age of beggining to hunt, tottally unaware of how scary he was for her until she was hiding behind Akutagawa when he came to retrieve Kyouka from the ada and realized she thought of him as a threat.

i think a lot about how atsushi sleeps in kyouka's closet. like. boy did you need a den. did you need a little tiger den

so much atsushi slander. how do i put into words that his character is so refreshing. that his reactions aren't weak for the situations he was put into and what prep he was given, but endearing to me because he's always trying his best. not in a 'he just messed up and is trying his best sort of way' but in a 'he's experienced so much cruelty that still affects him to this day, but he's still trying his best.' that he hates himself sometimes and can't brute force a solution to the problems he faces. he's just. so realistic.

Atsushi’s tongue feels too large in his mouth. The tiger in him urges him to dip his head and groom Akutagawa awake, to clean the wound with firm swipes, to press close and share warmth with a too-cold body. Atsushi droops, only to jerk back the second he catches himself, swallowing hard. He is not a tiger, he repeats silently as he carefully straightens Akutagawa’s supine form. Licking would be gross and not helpful and Akutagawa would be mad.
