but as regulus was dying/getting weaker, the spell started wearing off and james got flashbacks of everything. by the time regulus took his last breath, james finally remembered everything. but it was too late.

Regulus is sitting at their kitchen table, in his hands is the mug James made in a pottery class they’d gone to a few weeks ago. James had insisted that they couldn’t see each other’s finished product until they’d been fired. He’d told Regulus it would be a fun surprise, but really it was because of the letters James had stamped into the bottom of his mug: will you marry me?

When Regulus looks up at him, it’s with tears in his eyes and a soft smile on his lips.

“I was supposed to pick them up. I was going to do a whole romantic thing with breakfast in bed.”

“It doesn’t matter,” Regulus whispers, stepping into his space and bringing his hands to James’ face. “My answer would be the same regardless.”

“Yeah?” James asks, covering Regulus’ hands with his own.

“Yes.”

James would watch the shit out of My Little pony friendship is magic.
