Yesterday I started having an anxiety attack at the thought of my Black, 16 year old little brother riding his bike in our white suburban neighborhood, so these panels just seemed really timely to share.
Unnecessary force and violence against black people isn't new. The fact that it's wrong isn't news either.
Heroes save lives. Not end them.

The Secret Book Club, where we read a monthly classic, discuss, and try to summon Dionysus! Okay, maybe no Dionysus but the book part is still a go.
How does it work?
We will meet and discuss on a Discord server. Every month I will make a poll for the book we read, three to five options that members may vote on! Members are welcome to make suggestions to add to the poll but only things in the vain of classic and academic literature will be added. We also do biweekly discussions for short stories and poems, along with a monthly dark academia inspired movie night!
How do I join?
There are only three things you need to do in order to join The Secret Book Club:
Make sure you’re following me @dcrkacademia!
Reblog this post to spread the word (we don’t want a dead club, do we?)
Message me after you’ve done so for the link!
Anything else?
Please only join if you plan to be active and to participate! Otherwise, what’s the point? This isn’t a chat room, although we do chat, it is a book club. Don’t join if you don’t plan to read with us! The only compulsory activity in TSBC is the monthly classic. Lastly, and hopefully obviously, drama will not be tolerated. A good rule of thumb: don’t be an asshole.

I want to be politically informed and educated but I also wanna have a good day and be in a good mood. Do you see my problem?
You should be outraged. You should be enraged and if you are not, if the senseless killing of the black community at the hands of our police force does not anger you please reevaluate your humanity.
To be unmoved by the current issues of our society is a privilege. To prioritize looting and damage to property over lost black lives and police brutality is to lack humanity.
Please evaluate and educate yourself, this is a major issue and we need serious reform and revolution in this country.
You can’t love the Romantics and academia and remain ignorant and complacent.

I've been shadow banned for posting and supporting BLM, :) - someone who tumbler fucking hates would have replied to your post but Tumblr has taken away my right to do that including sending messages, receiving them, or even looking at past messages, or accessing group chats and my account no longer shows up in search feeds,
im not surprised that this is still happening.
❗️ please go onto twitter. that’s where we are and we’ll welcome you with open arms
Since I am getting attacked for telling the truth.
Remember when Captain America civil war came out and people started writing T'challa fics. Some black girls , including me, would ask some of these imagine pages to write an imagine with a black oc or a black reader, and we get:
" I don't know how to write a black people, sorry"
And we had to read those fics and use our imagination.
Then, when black panther movie came out, black writers finally got the representation in the media , that they deserve, and wrote fics dedicated to black folks that were feeling left out. What we got?
"Yall are racist for leave out us white people"
You see the pattern here? White people are always in the forefront of the media, and when they don't get the attention that they always get, we are labeled as the bad guys. I rest my case.
okay but for real. did somebody actually read “the secret history” without realising it’s a satire?
because from time to time someone posts something along the lines “i cannot understand how anyone would want to be like these characters”/”i don’t get how this is something that people romanticise” and i just. genuinely never realised someone might’ve taken tsh as a serious piece of inspiration as to how to act and behave.
to me dark academia has been just an aesthetic. just a set of ideas and aspirations, a source of inspiration for my passion of learning, a way of dressing, a veil of mystery and romance and the spirit of “carpe diem” decorating my presence. just an aesthetic, rather than the desire to engage in elitism and unhealthy behaviours and acts of instability with the excuse of “being a dark academic”.
i joke about wanting to throw a bacchanal and about wanting to commit art theft, sure. i just always thought it was obvious to everyone who’d read tartt’s books that it’s only a joke, nothing more.
