Funny (and kinda revealing) thing is that for years I’ve stuck to that moody picture of the Doctor walking through the clouds/smoke to the TARDIS as my lock screen wallpaper. Then I went through a couple of official posters for GO S1, then reverted to my trusted and almost monochrome Ten… and now this.
I see some parallels, so to say.
Doesn’t even bear thinking there wouldn’t be the 3rd season.
I think the most heartbreaking thing about the season finale of good omens 2 is how Aziraphale is so excited to "fix" Crowley with his new promotion at heaven, thus leading Crowley to believe (and with good reason) that all this time, Aziraphale thought there was always something wrong with him while he just accepted him as he was.
The fact that Aziraphale cannot see that Crowley would never want to be an angel again and that he rather be human with him and just love each other, even after knowing him for thousands of years is heart-wrenching.
I mean, the fact that seconds before all of That unfolds, they are witness to the fact angels and demons CAN fall in love, and can get away with it. That it's safe to love each other. The fact that Crowley tells Gabriel and Beelzebub to visit Alpha Centauri, just as he and Azi glance at each other. Ah yes, what a deja vu, "We could go off together and go to Alpha Centauri."
Aziraphale's rejection that time not just echoes, it magnifies in the season finale.
But honestly, I love to see Azi's faults fully at play. He still has so much to learn about what love really is despite the fact he's supposed to be "the good one". (On the side, I also really love what a neat little commentary it is on the effects institutional religion has on your moral compass and what you deem lovable and good)
I cannot wait for him to see the error of his ways. For him to realize that love and goodness isn't to be affiliated to any each group just because it's "supposed to be the good one". But I am also curious of how much of a fight Crowley will put up for that reconciliation to happen. He will probably need some major convincing after that huge heartbreak. So, the only way they'll get back together is when Aziraphale is the one loving for two, when he's the one doing the courting and the protecting and the doting. And I. Can. Not. Wait.
What a shame we haven't seen him in full Clan McDonald gear since 2014, when the cast were promoting What We Did On Our Holiday (I think?). DT looks magnificent in a kilt.
David Tennant and Kelly Macdonald
can we all just take a minute to say how fucking BRAVE CROWLEY WAS 😭
I'm not really getting the Aziraphale hate because even without all the pressures of religious brainwashing etc etc we've literally just seen through his eyes:
- Crowley radiating joy at the sheer wonder of the universe only to be crushed by orders from up high
- Those orders being the ONLY reason Crowley fell. Aziraphale knows (and has always known) that Crowley fell simply because no one wanted to listen to his ideas.
- 6000 of Crowley clearly aching to do good in defiance of his own nature
- Crowley admitting how desperately lonely that defiance is for him
- Crowley being BETTER than Aziraphale at morality and making Aziraphale better as a result
- Evidence that no one is ever going to be chill with Angel/Demon relationships unless they are too powerful to be stopped and/or willing to vanish
- That they are never going to escape the monitoring of heaven/hell (they literally were *stalked* by both sides the entire season) so they can't just live unnoticed among humans
- Even during their last few years of 'freedom' Crowley has still been desperately unhappy. He's at the 'what's the point of it all???' stage BEFORE anything bad happens in S2. For all he talks about the preciousness of their life, Crowley is radiating misery during his freedom whereas Aziraphale actually seems happy.
Like why WOULDN'T Aziraphale see this offer as the perfect solution? Crowley can get what he always wanted - to do good without anyone stopping him, with Aziraphale helping. It can be exactly like the nebula scene forever - only this time Aziraphale can just bask in Crowley's joy.
From his pov he is sacrificing his own life on Earth for THAT.
Oof we are in the last 20% of a very angsty slow burn, kiddos.
Don't even know why, but somehow it's mesmerising.
This has probably been already done to death, but I wanted to draw a museum scene anyway c: The paintings are from Luca Giordano btw!
We drifted here, in the lack-of-light, passing no-time. But we would feel it from so far away... your noisy, boiling universe. We want to travel there, to play your vicious games and win.
Wild Blue Yonder
So season 1 flashbacks was gods POV
Season 2 minisodes we're aziraphales
Does that mean season 3 is Crowley?!
Imagine they went back to Crowley’s apartment after they stopped the Armageddon and Aziraphale could see Crowley trying to keep himself awake but all that power he had to use to drive through fire and stop time and then brainstorming for hours with Aziraphale how they’re going to switch… finally exhaustion won and his eyes closed, curled up on the sofa, sliding down unconsciously to get himself a little more comfortable.
And Aziraphale did not know where any blankets were so he just grabbed his beige coat and pulled it over his lithe body.
(Aka why I’ve never seen any art of Aziraphale pulling his beige coat over Crowley’s shoulders)
Today I remembered what it’s like to *casually* switch your phone on time and again - just to see how beautiful your lock screen picture is.
Beautiful and enigmatic enough to provoke questions I'd be only too happy to answer!
I made this wallpaper for myself but I’m done gatekeeping it
Please enjoy ❤️
