When she took his hand, he gently squeezed it. He didn’t know if he could ever forgive himself for what happened between the two of them. But he wanted to temporarily let that go and actually appreciate the moment they were sharing. He wanted to be with her and she wanted to be with him. That was the only thing that mattered. Everything else would just have to wait until tomorrow or the day after. To have someone that made you feel so alive was rare. Most loves had a tendency to drain you but not Yennefer. Oh never her.
Her words caused him to chuckle. Moving closer, he let his free hand cup her cheek. “Now that sounds like a good deal to me” Geralt nodded. “You want the dinner to be over there at Caffi Rhees or at my place? The choice is yours"
No matter what she would always find a way to bring him down to his knees. She would always so easily break down those walls he had built up. He may have wished for her but he could clearly see that it wasn’t just a wish but a need. He had longed to be with someone who in a way understood him. So yes he may have wished for her but it had been her decision to stay and that was a comfort.
Geralt was laughing. It had been a long, long time since she had heard that sound. It was nice— familiar. A tiny speck of comfort that it would all be alright in the end.
Yennefer weighed the options only for a moment; the answer was easy for her. She had little intention of making any of this night a public affair, and the state Geralt was known to leave his bed most of the time was… not at all appealing. “Mine is fine. We can get something on the way. I think that would be easier than trying to piece together a meal from stray items in my cupboards.”
Smiling, she easily pulled him into a kiss. He was always so pliant under her grasp. It was endlessly amusing to the witch. When he was lost enough in it she murmured a soft “And Geralt?”
Sparing only a moment for him to process and reply, she kissed him again, hand travelling up to his throat. Her grip went from feather light to harsh in mere seconds, nails digging crescents into his flesh. She pulled away from the kiss, meeting his eyes.
“If you ever do anything like that again, I will rip you apart with my bare hands.” Her voice was barely above a whisper, though there was a slight smirk on her lips, magically still perfectly painted a pale red. She relinquished her grasp on his throat, but kept his hand in hers. “Now, what should we pick up for dinner, dear witcher?”

Missing memories. River was missing all of her memories pre Sallow Hills. Jenny was fascinated by this. She knew people with partial memory loss, and had heard about those with false memories and memories completely wiped, but she hadn’t actually gotten the chance to meet someone like that yet. It was fascinating, from a scientific viewpoint at least. Jenny wanted to learn everything she could about this town and the strange things it did to the mind.
“Oh no, it’s exactly what I want to hear!” they said hurriedly, and then bit their lip. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound so eager. But the whole memory loss is part of what I’m studying at the Research Center. My main focus is the aspect of people arriving from different points in time, but I’m very intrigued by the memory issues here as well. I would love to hear about these odd flashes and gut instincts… if you’re comfortable sharing, of course.”
Jenny smiled nervously and took another sip of their tea. “To answer your question though, I’m not from here. I think I’m from a different universe entirely actually. I sort of… travel through time and space, looking for people to help and planets to save. Or at least I used to, before I got stuck here.”
River considered, and gave a nonchalant shrug. “No offence taken. If my memory loss can be helpful to someone, I don’t see the harm in sharing any of my experience.”
She was ever so slightly unsettled by Jenny’s past, purely from a historical standpoint. A time traveler had the potential to disturb the course of history, which River found improper, but she wasn't about to say anything. It didn’t throw her off too much. She had heard about the different universes people here came from many times before.
“That's an impressive resume you’ve got there. I’d assume it’s helpful in your field of work.”

Jenny laughed. “No offense taken,” she said. “Teenagers are teenagers. We’ve all been there, right?” She smirked slightly. She actually hadn’t been there, but telling a complete stranger that she popped out of a machine as an adult didn’t usually feel like the right course of action. “It was a fun presentation though, at least in my opinion. I noticed a few kids nodding off, but for the most part I felt like they were engaged.”
They glanced down at the teacup, waiting for it to steep. They hated that part of tea, the waiting for it to be ready.
“History? I absolutely love history,” they said. “It’s my favorite school subject. Well, that and science. But history is brilliant. Is there a certain era of Earth history your classes focus on?”
Shit. She’d just called it ‘earth’ history. Immediate alien red flag. Whoops.
Laughing politely at Jenny’s words, River tucked the papers she had been looking over away. She didn’t remember her teenage years either, but she could only assume she was a troublemaker between the scars dusted around her knees and hands (which she had chalked up to lots of rough housing) and the tiny faded tattoo that looked old enough to be from that part of her life.
“I’d say same here, but I doubt that would be much of a surprise,” the older woman smiled. “Science was always my second favorite, but history is where my real love has always lain.”
The phrasing of the question didn’t really catch her off guard. She was used to the colloquialisms and general lack of proper grammar from her students, and she could barely remember a few months ago, let alone anything of her past. “We go through the early modern world, or the medieval period, to the industrial revolution. Right now we’re in the late 1700s. Not the most fun thing to teach, but there's a curriculum for a reason. If we had it my way, we’d be going over all sorts of fun things from really, really far back.” River got up in order to make herself another cuppa. “What sort of things do you get up to at the lab all day? If you don’t mind me asking that is.”

MERLIN WASN’T SCARED OF THE MARI LWYD. he’d been around since the story of the creature first started popping up and while some people had bad interactions with the creature it was far from the most dangerous thing he’d met. He’d met a questing beast before! And saved a unicorn! Which was why he didn’t avoid his usual walks around the forest, nurturing plants and animals through the winter. The little squirrel he’d saved once from being snatched by a hawk was burrowed with their little squirrel family, content and warm. The tree he’d healed from a bad burn was thriving. And currently he was checking in on the holly bushes he’d helped bring to the flourishing life they were in.
HE WAS ALSO TAKING A FEW LEAVES AND BERRIES (with permission of course) when he felt someone walking up on him. Well, the forest felt it. He turned towards the man, offering a smile. ❝ I see I’m not the only one not worried about the Grey Mare. ❞

Sam Gamgee was a man of routine, and no whispers, rumors, or tales were about to throw it off. He had been through... far too much to let small things like that spook him. He would believe such things when he found any evidence of it, or heard any first hand accounts. But, for now, he would continue his walks in the forest. These woods reminded him a little of the Old Forest (except there were no malicious sentient trees here... he hoped so, anyway).
When he came across another figure in the forest, he almost left well enough alone, but then the person spoke, and Sam was drawn in. He flashed a smile back. “Takes a lot to frighten me these days, mister... Merlin, isn't it? What brings you this deep in the forest?”

AS HE WAS LISTING THEM ALL OFF, REMUS REALIZED JUST HOW EXPENSIVE THIS WAS GOING TO BE. there was no way he was going to be able to afford them all now, but maybe if he could just get a couple. Then a couple more. It wasn’t like this was going to be prepped by the next full anyway, so waiting a bit longer wouldn’t do that much damage. ❝ If aconite isn’t too temperamental, I could probably take the seedlings. I’ll be trying my best to upkeep them anyway. But if you think it’s better to wait till their older, I’d like to put my name down for a plant or two and come back later. I’ll probably not be able to afford all the plants right now anyway, so I don’t mind waiting ❞
REMUS WAS ALRIGHT WITH PLANTS. he didn’t kill them by just looking at them, and he’d always had decent scores in herbology. But there was passing a class and there was keeping a garden of plants alive for his well being. Samwise’s offer stuck out though. Remus, too, couldn’t replicate the valerian roots. Even Pomfrey wouldn’t have risked that - plants were always difficult to replicate especially if you wanted to keep their properties. ❝ I’d actually really appreciate that. These are all - they’re part of a health routine my doctor is putting me on. I’d like to be able to maintain them and not have to re-purchase them often. ❞

It took a moment for Sam to come up with a good answer. He didn’t have aconite back home, which meant he had very limited experiences with it. From what he had seen, a novice should be able to take care of it just fine, but he didn’t want to make a guarantee he couldn’t back, especially when it seemed like an object of such importance.
“Tell you what-- I think you should be just fine taking care of the seedlings, but if you're not, come back in a week or two and I’ll get you a grown one to replace it. Sound alright?” He walked past Remus to get to the other end of the shop, and stopped in the back corner near a door with a, ‘employees only’ sign across it in bold letters. A moment later he returned with the tiny aconite plants, and placed them on the counter. He retrieved the valerian from a nearby shelf, and brought it to the counter as well. “Not a problem! I’m glad to show you. Its really not too difficult. You may mess it up once or twice in the beginning, but I’m sure you'll get the hang of it.”
I think I just saw Yennefer Wilczynski (she/they, cis woman, 96). she’s a canon character from the witcher. have you heard she remembers everything from her previous life? she appeared here in may 2021 after attempting to track down her daughter, ciri, and hold off the wild hunt. now she’s working as a customer assistant at the bubbling cauldron. still, she does have that overly confident, bitten lips, mess of dark curls, lilac & gooseberries vibe about her.
