Assuming tonight is all we have left
I didn’t say that

River wasn’t even phased, and this intrigued Jenny very much. They had an odd look on their face as they listened to her talk about her curriculum. River didn’t seem to have noticed it at all. They pursed their lips, bringing up their cup of tea to take a long sip of it, then wincing at the heat. It was still a bit too warm.
Did this mean something, or was River just used to being around the strange and different inhabitants of this town? Was River… an alien too, she wondered? Jenny looked her over again, watching the way she moved as she prepared herself a cup of tea.
“Well, studying this town is a big part of it, the barrier, the way people keep appearing from strange and different realms,” Jenny said, smiling to herself. The perfect segue. She acted casual as she raised her cup up for another sip before asking it. “You from around here or somewhere else?”
As River began preparing her tea in the well loved travel mug she always used, she nodded. It made sense to her that they studied why they were all stuck here.
“No, not really,” she shook her head, curls bouncing as she did. “Well,at least, I don’t think so. I don’t remember anything before arriving past the odd flash or gut instinct. I try to focus on those things when they come up to surface some sort of memory, but so far I’ve come up empty. That's common here, or so I’ve been told.”
She lifted the kettle to pour boiling hot water into her mug. “It's quite frustrating, but I manage. There's not much other than that I can think to do… No matter. I'm sure my little sob story isn’t what you wanted to hear. Everyone has their ghosts, especially in a little town like this.”
After she dropped in a bit of milk from the shared fridge and stirred the contents of her mug, River looked at Jenny. “What about you? Are you from around here?”

Dorcas grinned. “I agree. Magic is absolutely stunning. I love not having to hide it here, ever. Anywhere I go, I can have my wand out, and nobody bats an eye.”
“Elves,” she said. “I’d like to meet an elf. Although I doubt they’re as cool as the hobbits.” She nudged him playfully, a grin on her face. “So you were at the nursery right? How long have you been here and doing that? It must have been a shock for you arriving here. I know it was for me.”
Dorcas’ comment made Sam chuckle. He could never fathom comparing Elves and Hobbits; it would be like comparing a shovel to an ephemeral garden. The elves were magnificent, and he felt lucky to this day that he had the chance to see them with his own eyes, and stay in their lands even though it was only for a short while.
“It was a dream of mine for a long time to meet them. I’m glad I got the chance. Nothing in this world could ever match the beauty of them, except my Rosie of course.” He smiled then, thinking of what she may be doing a world away. “I do work there, yes. I own it, matter of fact. I have since I got here, but I’ve been tending plants my whole life. Not much change except now I get paid for it.”
Sam took a moment to figure out how to answer her last statement. He still wasn’t sure he had completely adapted to this new way of life. Most of the things here were still quite foreign. “I’m getting by, I suppose. It's a very different way of living, but I manage. The community sense has been the strangest. In the Shire, everyone knew everyone else, and was always happy to lend a helping hand, but I haven’t seen too much of that here. Not in the same way, if you understand me.”

Catra breathed almost a sigh of relief when Midna said she wasn’t from this world either. For some reason, it made xem feel slightly closer to home.
“Yeah, I’m from a world called Etheria,” xe said. “We’ve got magic there, with princesses ands sorcerers who wield it. I’m neither, but I’ve got plenty of my own skills to make up for it… what world are you from?”
Catra looked up at the sky when Midna mentioned it. Xe hadn’t taken the time to notice any beauty here, having been too focused on escaping. But she was right. It was a lovely night, objectively. Xe nodded.
“I guess you’re right. And I’ve faced scarier too. Random terrors in the night were my bread and butter growing up.”
Midna looked Catra over, letting her mind wander about Etheria for a moment. How different was it? What were people like there? Was it as similar to her own world as it sounded on the surface? She dispelled the thoughts quickly, no time to dwell on it.
“The place I’m from is called The Twilight Realm. We’ve got all of those things, and I am them,” she replied. “It’s a place of perpetual darkness, and it's strange to those who dwell in the light, but it's home and it's beautiful.” And I miss it. She knew better than to say that aloud at a time like this, but she felt it in her heart.
Midna kept her eyes on xer as xe looked up at the moon, before mirroring the action. “I was missing someone for a very long time. Someone who meant the world to me. He wasn't dead, but, well, we couldn't see each other. We were separated by a barrier much like this one. Him in the light, and I in the dark. I tried not to think about him too much, but… sometimes I’d liked to look at the moon and think that he would be looking at it too. Maybe that can be the same for you and your person, whoever they are.”

Ciri’s nose scrunched up as she smiled. There had been issues between them, beginning and ending with the witch, but Ciri knew Yennefer would rather die than actually hurt her. Yenn had seen the chaos within Ciri, how she was drowning under the weight of it, and had chosen to help her. For that, Ciri would always be grateful. Yennefer made her feel safe.
Lacing their fingers together, Ciri playfully knocked her smaller body into Yenn’s. “I would like that. I don’t have much, the people in town helped me. I don’t have a lot from home either.” The thought was sobering. The people were the most important to her, at least she had one with her now. “Zireael managed to come with me.”
“I don’t understand the technology but the bakery… they’re nice to me. Helpful. How long have you been here?”
A laugh bubbled out of Yennefer as Ciri bumped into her, the sound a true rarity, especially in the past few months of being here on her own. She mirrored the action, lightly knocking into Ciri. Elation couldn’t begin to describe her feelings in that moment. Even if it were only to last a little while, for now she had her daughter, which was the only thing that mattered.
“Its good to know the realms still respect the first rule of being a witcher. ‘A witcher can forget to eat, to drink, to breathe even, but a witcher never forgets to care for their blade,’“ It was a sentiment the pair had heard rattled off by Geralt and Vesemir countless times. She knew the importance the blade held, and was glad it had made it across. For a moment, she wondered if Ciri could escape this place, for she was the only person she knew of who could easily hop between realms. She dispelled the idea with a minute shake of her head.
Yennefer nodded as understood the bit about technology well, “I’m glad they’ve shown you kindness. I’ve been here, oh, five months now? Maybe more. Tracking time was a little hard at first. I was trying to find my way back to you, mostly, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to leave. I’ve got a job at the little metaphysical shop. Its nice enough, but its not as pleasing as what I used to do. You know how well I take being told what to do.”

Listening to Sam talk about his job, Zelda smiled to herself. Sometimes they didn’t know how to cope with the fact that here in Sallow they were surrounded with people that cared for her and loved her. Back home in Hyrule she had to take care of herself, protect herself and be there for herself. That was until they met Link and everything just changed for the better.
This town had not only given her a sense of belonging but also given her the greatest gift of all; Link. Being able to be with him and actually be his was everything to Zelda. It had been a dream for so many years but now it was reality. Now they could kiss his lips and hold his hand, tell him that she loved him and sleep in his arms.
They were finally content. “Well I am happy that you have someone at work willing to help you. You deserve a helping hand”

As Sam continued his work with the vegetables, he nodded a soft smile to them. Maybe it wasn’t perfectly ideal to be in this town alone, but he was making do. The Shire would always be his true home, but Sallow Hills would do. He would make it so.
“Thank you Zelda,” he hummed, careful not to catch his fingers under the knife. “It's nice to have some more time to myself, even if there's nobody to share it with.” He said it, still with a little smile on his face, but it did make his chest ache a little to know there was no Frodo or Rosie here to share his time with. He missed them greatly, though he talked about them little. It hurt too much to stir up those feelings.
Changing the subject, he went on, “You know, I remembered something last night that I hadn't been able to the day before.”

NOT EXACTLY FROM AROUND HERE. that seemed like most people in this town. Hell, the Doctor was here. Sure, not one he’d ever watched but the Doctor nonetheless. This town was spiraling in its mysteries and magic, and the more Dean healed from his own pain and nightmares, the more he wanted to explore all of it. ❝ I’m not from here either. Where I’m from, crystals like this work more like a placebo than anything. Course, I’d never tell my sister that and if I can find spells to make them actually work, I would use them. But here - ❞
HERE HE WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF THE CRYSTALS REALLY DID HOLD SOME KIND OF LATENT POWER. one that he definitely didn’t want to mix with other conflicting powers. ❝ Thank you, really. I’ll probably pick out a black tourmaline and red jasper then and see which works the best. ❞ He took his time, seeing which of each he was drawn towards before picking them out. He placed them on the counter, then paused. ❝ This is going to be a strange request, but you don’t happen to have any woods here do you? I want to craft a coreless wand for the project, but there aren’t trees around that work for what I’m looking for. I was going to check the nursery, but if you have poplar, pear, or fir that would be wonderful. ❞
Magical items were, in Yennefer’s experience, temperamental. Conditions, stipulations, and specifications all had to be in conjunction, and that was made even harder for her to mentally calculate now she was on a different sphere. It was hard for her to say anything for sure here.
“I’ve no clear idea on the power of them in this place, either, but belief in something alone can be powerful in its own right.” Spells, so he could use Chaos as well. There were more magically adept people here than Yennefer had originally thought, though she didn’t know if it was comforting, or something to keep an eye on. “I’m glad to help,” she wasn't particularly, but that's what a good sales associate would say, so she made it sound convincing enough.
It took a moment to think on his question. Six months there, yet some of the store’s contents remained a little elusive. In fairness, it was brimming with a wide variety of things. “I don't know if you've noticed, but everything here is a little strange, myself included,” her voice was light. Taking a little walk around the center, Yennefer stopped in front of a shelf with a small selection of different, variously shaped, woods, and gestured loosely with her hand. “Do any of these meet your needs? They look like they could be wand shaped.”

ZSASZ REALLY LIKED THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE DROWNED PRINCE . yeah , the white rabbit was really nice too . But he went there if he wanted to bug Stephie and Kitty Kate . If he wanted to relax , to drink , to hang out with people - that wasn’t the place . Which is why whenever he and Yenn met up for drinks , it was at the Drowned Prince . (Also , secretly , he didn’t want to unless the Bats on her yet .)
He had his … well Zsasz didn’t have a signature drink . His motto was the more fruit flavored and the more sugary , the better . So today he was sipping on a daiquiri - strawberry banana because he felt like being annoying . He took a long sip , slowly raising a brow bone at Yennefer . ❝ So . What’s up with the blonde mamoth . ❞

Even across spheres, a night out still remained the same at its core. It was a little comfort to be able to maintain some semblance of normalcy when she was in the midst of an emotional crisis, and Yennefer was thankful for it. She was thankful for the improvement in alcohol quality as well. Back home, nearly anything you could reasonably get your hands on tasted like swill compared to the things these Earth bartenders could whip up. Yennefer favored something in the middle of the sweetness scale, but she wasn’t opposed to using her roots to her advantage (aka pounding back shots of high ABV liquors to prove annoying men wrong).
It was nice to finally have a friend here. She hadn’t expected it to be Zsasz, but he was interesting company, and they seemed to click in a weird inexplicable way. They had a little routine by now. When one of them needed it, they would call for a night out, and drink until they had solved the problem or got cut off from ordering. The latest topic was the whole Geralt Thing.
Sighing at his question, and taking a sip of something called an amaretto sour (she was determined to try all of the most popular Earth cocktails at least once), Yennefer shook her head slightly, “I have no idea... I’m bored of this whole thing if I’m being honest. I think we’re going to be alright in the end. I just hate that it all went on so publicly. I mean-- If we were back home we would have sorted this out forever ago, and I wouldn't have to worry about Ciri being out of the house on some foolish power display to show she still has some semblance of control despite us, and I would actually be able to have sex. So I’m down three for three here.”

He laughs at her words but shakes his head at them. ❝ I don’t think he was lying, but that does sounds a bit skeevy though. ❞ Literally hypnotic, perhaps not, but when someone as beautiful as she comes with her equally beautiful eyes, it makes a person stop and stare.
The talk of her father caught his attention for a multitude of reasons. He thinks that if Shepard were here, he’d probably have a million and one questions to ask her about that. And it’s not that Simon didn’t have those same questions, but he’s not as brave as his friend when it comes to prying into other people’s business.
Another reason that it calls his attention is the fact that her words don’t shock him as much as they should. It’s almost as if this isn’t the first he’s met someone with a unique bloodline like that, but he can’t place a face or a name to that thought.
❝ It’s nice to meet you too, m’am. And sorry again, for making a bit of a mess. ❞
Yennefer shrugged. The idea of ‘skeevy’ men was a norm for her, and it didn’t throw her off as it once did long ago. She was able to separate the gross from the genuine now, and knew Simon hadn’t meant it that way. Still, she remained focused on him, wanting to know his intentions for visiting the little shop.
“Don’t worry yourself over it. What's done is done. And to be completely honest, I don’t have much grounds to be cross since you set things straight again. Not many have the decency to do such a thing,” she waved a hand in vague dismissal. She had an urge to probe for more information, though if she were a better person, she would have felt more guilty for poking around someone with what she was thinking to be town-caused amnesia.
Crossing the room to set things back to absolute perfection, she was still eyeing him up. Thankfully for Simon, there was little in her gaze past curiosity. “So, Simon, what are you searching for exactly? It's not everyday I see kind boys like you walk into this little place.”
