The gentle nature of Sam was a stark contrast to what she was normally used to. If this had happened back home in the presence of her biological father then she wouldn’t have been met with the same warmth. Instead she would have been told to wipe those tears and pull herself together. A princess didn’t have the right to have moments of weakness. No no she had to be strong and cold. That is what their beloved father wanted. Zelda had made it their own personal goal back in Hyrule to go against everything he stood for. They wanted to follow the beat of their own drum and man did that stress him out.

Good.

Looking at Sam, she frowned. They could feel how tense their shoulders were and how stiff their body became due to it. His gentle nature and the way he looked at them surprising them to their very core. “It..” they whispered and closed their eyes. “Hurts” admitting it out loud made them feel so vulnerable. But Samwise had proven time and time again that he can be trusted.

Taking care of someone recovering from the edge of a knife was unfortunately not a foreign concept to Sam. He had tended Frodo’s shoulder on the road for two weeks with the help of Strider, and looked after it carefully when the dull aches popped up in the following years. He could do the same for Zelda (though luckily this time he wouldn't have to heal their wounds himself).

“I believe it would,” he nodded, speaking gently. “So stop straining yourself. It's alright to sit and take it easy on yourself. Physically and mentally.”

He gently rubbed her bicep for a moment before pulling back to give her a little space. “Is there anything I can get for you?”

SHE DIDN’T SEEM TO BE THROWN OFF BY HIS KNIFE THROWING.  which wasn’t a bad thing.  If anything it made Zsasz more interested in the woman who’d walked into his shop.  She hadn’t even flinched at his movement.  It was impressive, and something that was a characteristic of his girls most of the time.  It was a rare sight in most.  One that he found in Michael Myers and at times Dean Winchester.  ❝ Joke or not, it’s always good to prove oneself as excelling in their trade.  My trade just happens to be weapons. ❞  And using those weapons, though there was little need for an assassin in Sallow Hills, so he didn’t need to get whispers around about that.

HE CROSSED THE ROOM, RETRIEVING THE KNIFE FROM WHERE IT HAD LODGED IN THE WALL.  he brought it back to where it would find a home until someone bought it, tucked away in the knife display case.  He leaned his elbows on the case after that, watching the woman carefully.  ❝ My recommendation depends.  What are you comfortable with?  There’s lots of things here that are good for personal protection, but I wouldn’t recommend a rifle to someone who is more comfortable with blades. ❞

People’s modalities were always of interest to the mage. If you watched how someone conducted themselves, you could predict future actions if you had a sharp enough mind. It was particularly helpful when there was a threat present, but from what she could tell, there wasn’t one here. It was bad for business to threaten people in your shop, and the man seemed to have his wits about him. Still, she watched intently as he moved about the room.

Yennefer drummed her fingers against the top of her forearm as she thought. Threat or no, you don’t walk around flaunting a weak spot, so she didn’t mention that she hadn’t the slightest clue what a rifle was. “Blades– that's where my skills lie. Nothing too heavy, and I’d prefer to have a free hand if need be. I like to be able to multitask, you see.”

She had a vague idea of what she wanted, but there was no telling what similarities laid between her realm and this one. There was a strange sense of comfort as her eyes swept the racks and shelves of the shop, before they settled back on him. He was watching her the same way that she was watching him. She liked that; it meant she was dealing with someone who had a brain. There were a surprising amount of people in this town who seemed to be lacking in that area. Mirroring his actions, she leaned her elbows on the case nearest her with a grin. “Easy enough request, so I’m sure you can help me find something.”

Geralt felt so heavy. Because no matter what he did or said he only dug a deeper hole. He should have never even wrote the things he wrote in that group chat but yet he did. He made the decision to send those messages. Could he ever forgive himself for the things he had put Yennefer through? Yes sure people make mistakes but to constantly make the same one? Now that wasn’t a mistake that was just a habit.

Just watching her and the beauty that she was, listening to every single word that left her lips, he sighed softly. Of course he wanted to fight for her. He would fight day and night, year after year for decades because he loved her that much. He didn’t want anyone else and he knew that the second his eyes landed on her all those years ago. Now Geralt wasn’t someone who believed in the notion of love at first sight. But if he did then what he experienced that day sure fell under that category. He wanted to spend forever with her but how would she know if he didn’t tell her?

He closed the gap between the two which could be a big mistake. But he was willing to take that chance. “I do” Geralt told her and nodded. “Yennefer” letting out a soft sigh, he tilted his head to the side. “I have wanted you from the second I saw you. You are so much more than anything I could have ever dreamed of. You are everything. My everything” looking away, Geralt felt the blade of guilt dig into his flesh once again. “But I hurt you”

image

⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰

Had Geralt always been this infuriating? Yennefer supposed she had heard it enough times from people on their various trips about the Continent, but she had never actually considered its truth before. She considered little that did not pertain to her, especially in those days. Even if he hadn’t been infuriating then, he sure had figured out a way to be extraordinarily so now. He made her skin crawl, though she didn’t know if it was in a good way, bad way, or combination of the two.

Despite everything, if she were truly honest with herself, she still knew what she always had: she would never not choose to be with him. It didn’t matter what evils he did to her, as Yennefer would never be able to truly stay away. She did love him, and always had, even when he had made it extraordinarily hard to do so. Geralt could cheat, steal, lie, betray, murder, or do anything to anyone at all, and at the end of the day, she knew she would go back to him. She wasn’t stupid enough to think that to be healthy, but it was the truth of the matter nonetheless.

“Geralt,” she breathed his name, but said nothing else until he had finished speaking.

Yennefer listened, actually taking in his words instead of hitting them back with a metaphorical  verbal tennis racket. On a nicer day, in a better circumstance, she would have teased him, but this was a rare occasion of silence.

“You did… You said something despicable to me, merely because you knew it would hurt, because you were angry with me for what I don’t even know. But I shouldn’t want to remain like this, not for any longer. Frankly, I’m tired of it-- of all of it.” The mage paused, knowing that she could get one last jab in making him wait to hear her choice; her last bit of cruelty on the matter before she finally relented. “I think it's best if we stop acting fools, and put this situation behind us. I think you and I both know that's how this was always going to end, and I don’t see any point in drawing it out any longer.”

@shallowmagics

The Dwarven Nursery was the best place in town to find plants of many sorts: common, uncommon, and… otherly. The shop was not very large, but it was brimming with life. On certain shelves you would find lush plants, already stable and ready to take home for decorative use. A few shelves, brightly lit by special bulbs, featured tiny sprouts that were barely more than an inch. The back corner was where most of the otherly plants were kept, as they tended to benefit from special treatment. A vast majority of the place held intermediary growths, ready to be planted and still in need of support.

All of the current greenery was being taken care of by one Samwise Gamgee, a man with a kind heart and a particular proclivity for plants. He kept himself busy with work, having little else to do with his time.

Against one wall of the shop, there was a nicely lit workbench (currently littered with loose soils and plants). It’s where Sam had stationed himself nearly an hour ago, now. He had been toying with a strange plant species unfamiliar to him, trying to deduce the best soil and lighting for it. He had cross referenced a few books from the library, yet none had agreed.

It was in the midst of examining freshly cleaned roots with a pair of tweezers that he heard the door. “Be there in a moment!” In a fluid motion, he removed the magnifying glasses he wore, switched the lamplight off, and dusted his hands off on his jeans. Sam made his way up to the counter at the front.

“Welcome in! Can I help you find something? Or do you have a mind already?”

⌘Midna & Jack Frost⌘

⌘Midna & Jack Frost⌘

for the lovely @snowballsandfun

Midna never let boredom take her for long. Unemployed though she was, she had enough friends and things to do to keep her busy most days. When those options failed her, she simply went out in search of something else to occupy her time.

At first it had manifested as an eagerness to give the forest a thorough exploration. Midna had met her fair share of interesting people and sights there. Then, she moved on to the rest of town proper. She acquainted herself well enough with the layout of houses and shops should she ever need any of them. It was after a few weeks of being there that she realised she hadn't explored much of the opposite end of town, near the coast.

All of her friends occupied with their own business, and wanting to remedy that fact, Midna decided to take the day to poke around the coast to look for something interesting.

She hadn’t been there ten minutes when she heard a voice from behind her that made her head swivel like an owl. She squinted a little against the sun, trying to get a better look at the person now standing there. Midna cocked her head to the side a little. “Sorry, come again? Couldn’t hear you.”

At first, Ciri had been… hesitant about trusting others. In the span of a single night everyone she had ever loved was stolen from her. All that had been afforded to her was fear and the knowledge that some mysterious man would help her. Then she had Dara. Then came Geralt, Vesemir, Lambert, Yennefer. People she loved and in turn, loved her.

She shut her eyes as Yenn kissed her forehead, wanting to stay in the moment forever. Calanthe had loved her, of that Ciri had no doubts about, but not like Yenn. Calanthe was blood and fire, who gave hugs hard enough to bruise only when Ciri was truly in need. Yennefer was soft touches and let Ciri hold her close, didn’t comment when tears would eventually bead upon her lashes.

A quick nod, going to collect her gym bag from where it was forgotten on the ground. She didn’t want to stray too far from Yennefer, not when she had just gotten her mother back. “There’s a woman- Tano- she owns the-” Not an inn, what was the equivalent here? “-I don’t know what it’s called. It’s where they put people who don’t have anywhere else to go. I’ve been there about two weeks.”

She readjusted her bag. “If you have the room for it.”

image

⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰

It was an extraordinary relief, having Ciri back. It felt like fitting the final piece of a puzzle in place. Yennefer watched her as she went for her bag, taking in every little difference from the last time she had seen her. The mage had lived an extraordinarily long time, and had seen many beauties in her day, but nobody rivalled the radiance of her Ciri. Nobody ever could.

“If I have room for it? What a ridiculous thing to say. Did you leave your sense back on The Continent, cub?” Her words were light, teasing, in a way she hadn’t spoken for a long time. She held out her hand for Ciri to take, “Come, lets get your things from the not-an-inn, then you can settle in with me. I happen to have an empty guest bedroom which I think will work perfectly.”

There was very little Yennefer wouldn’t do for Ciri. As any mother, she had made her fair share of mistakes in the past, but she worked to ensure she wouldn’t slip up with her ever again. “You’ve been well, I hope?”

[ setting : hill’s hunting , with :  bombadills ]

┊   ┊   ┊   ┊   ┊

ZSASZ HAD , OF COURSE , CLOCKED THAT YENNEFER WAS GORGEOUS.  he was taken , not blind.  In another time , before he’d promised everything he had to Oswald , he may have tried to make a pass on her.  Nothing serious - just a night of fun for the both of them before heading their separate ways.  The smile , catlike as it was , made her face curl up in a very appealing way.  Not for the first time he wished Liz was here - though this time because it’d be fun to watch her try to get a night with the woman.  If she was free , of course.

HE NODDED TO HER WORDS.  he had suspected she’d understand , and he was glad he was correct in thinking so.  ❝ Exactly.  For example , there was this guy back at home.  A pain in my ass most of the time because he had a moral superiority about him.  But he picked his ground and he stood it , which I deeply respected. ❞  Jimbo was good , even if they often stood on opposite sides of the trenches.  ❝ My biggest advisory (a different guy) also has rules , though stricter than mine.  And I gotta respect it , ya know.  Sometimes it’s fun to see if you can push someone to break their own rules. ❞

image

⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰

She listened intently, as she was wont to do. Yennefer learned long ago the benefits of paying attention to what people shared. It helped guide her to people who would be advantageous- or a roadblock- to her future problems. If you were good (and she was very good), you could compare it to what you didn’t know about the person, and surmise even more about them, without the subject so much as suspecting. She didn’t think she would be needing to do any of that with him, but nothing was ever certain.

“I am unattached at the moment,” she said cooly in response to a thought he had not expressed aloud. She didn’t mean to pry into his head, but it was right there. Low hanging fruit was easy to grab after all.  It wasn’t an offer nor a suggestion, just a statement of fact. She wasn’t lying. She truly did love Geralt (as much as she thought herself capable, as she still thought such a word was unfitting for herself to use), but he was oblivious to her existence, and she had often found a bit of comfort in late night rendezvous. Her early days in town, confused and alone, told her it still did.

Yennefer continued as if randomly commentating on people’s thoughts was a normal thing to do. It was to her, after all.

“Isn’t everyone with a moral superiority complex a pain in the arse? I think the two terms to be synonymous,” she smiled at her own attempt at a joke. “Mmm, I would have to agree with you. Pushing people’s buttons can be quite entertaining. I’ve done my fair share of… interrogations that way.”

Placing their hands over their stomach, they sighed. Even though Zelda was back up on their feet, they could still feel the pain every now and then. It came in waves. One second her stomach didn’t ache and she could move around and then the next it felt like if they made one move they would fall over. So it would be best to just sit still for the time being and let Samwise help them.

“Oh Samwise. I am certain that you will find someone” they then fell silent for a couple of seconds. “Unless.. there’s already someone” arching a brow, the princess couldn’t help the giggle. She was eager to learn more about the other and if this meant that she would have to poke around then so be it.

“Oh? Do tell”

image

⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰

Sam’s eyes darted to Zelda’s hands for a moment before he spoke. He wanted greatly to ask if she was feeling alright, but he knew what her answer would be. His eyes quickly met their gaze before it became anything too noticeable.

With a slight smile and a shake of his head, he chuckled, “I do already have someone, Zelda. I mean, look at me.” He playfully gestured to himself. “Two someones, actually, but they're… well they aren’t here. I've looked.”

He did his best to not sound too sad about it, despite much it hurt to think about. He had been around Frodo his whole life, so the adjustment to their separation was a bit much at times. He did his best to get by despite that, though.

“Yes, well, it's not completely new, but it's much clearer than it was. I figured out I used to be the mayor of my home town,” a tiny smile graced his lips, as it usually did when he thought of home. “Nothing big, I know, but I never had a clear word for it before.”

Jaskier chuckled, “Judging on how we met, I thought I’d be dead by now and it is quite surprising how that has turned around. Quite recently, I might add and honestly it’s so much easier to get along with you when i’m drunk”. The bard picks up his lute and starts to pick the strings gently and with precision, although fumbling on a couple of notes as the spirits he’s been drinking go to his head. “Fuck, this shit used to be easy”

image

⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰

Nodding in amused agreement, the mage lifted her cup a bit in a silent toast to the sentiment, before she took a little drink. “What can I say, bard? I’m full of surprises.”

She watched him play with the instrument, snorting a little laugh each time he messed up the notes. She knew he was talented at it, even if she would never tell him as much. “So much for being a professional. Or maybe you simply cant handle your liquor.” She was teasing, but she wasn’t really one to talk as she could barely handle it herself. “Are you going to make everyone suffer through another tune, or are you feeling merciful on my ears?”

“If he ever gets here, you’re teaching him how to behave around technology . You brought it up, you get to handle him,” Ciri gave a laugh, but it was cut off too short. Being without her parents wasn’t what bothered her. Them having to bury her was what sat heavily in Ciri’s chest, having already come far too close to that fate in the past. She squeezed around Yenn’s hand once, more as a comfort to herself than her mother. “Neither of you will let that happen.”

The bed and breakfast came into view, Ciri leading her mother inside and to the door of her room. She was reluctant to separate contact from Yennefer, but practicality won out as she dug in her gym bag for her key to unlock the door.

The room was plain, pretty in an unoffending, universal sort of way. Thick curtains, light colors, light wood furniture. Ciri dropped her gym bag onto the small bed as she stepped inside, fishing out a slightly larger one to begin placing her meager belongings inside. “You can come in, I won’t be long. I didn’t see the need for much.”

Basic toiletries, a few changes of clothes, everything she had appeared with. Zireael, thankfully, was included with the latter. Leaving Cintra had taught her at least one thing, to pack light. Safety in one place was never a given.

image

⊱ ──────────── {⋆⌘⋆} ──────────── ⊰

Squeezing the hand in her own, Yennefer shook her head. “No, no we will not. So long as I have my way, and you know I always do, nothings happening to you.” Briefly, the phantom figures of The Hunt crossed her mind, but she dispelled it as fast as it came. They were spheres away, and the pair of them were stuck here. Ciri would be fine.

As she followed Ciri on the way to her room, Yennefer surveyed the people in the bed and breakfast. She liked to see who was where, who they were meeting, and to surmise the why behind it. In short: she was nosy.

When they got up to Ciri’s room, she slipped in when she was directed to. It was much the same as the one she had stayed in upon her own arrival. “When we get back to my flat, we’ll match up our schedules, and find a day where we can go out to the shops to get you some new things.”
