During WWII, the Imperial Japanese government forced hundreds of thousands of women into sexual slavery. This International Women’s Day, I want everyone to remember all the “comfort women” and their continued fight. “Comfort women” is a euphemism that was used by the Japanese army to refer to Women from all around the world - including Korea, China, Philippines, Vietnam, and the Netherlands - who were kidnapped and forced to provide sexual services to their soldiers. How can you help boost their voices? Support organizations advocating for survivors.
House of Sharing: Home for Korean survivors
Korean Council for Justice & Remembrance
Lila Pilipina : Organization for Filipina survivors
If you want to financially support survivors, considering donating directly to the Korean Council and the Butterfly Fund - which was established by survivors Kim Bok-Dong and Gil Won-Ok to help victims of sexual abuse around the world: [x]
If you want to help raise awareness for comfort women survivors, please follow Girl of Peace Documentary and donate to our Kickstarter. We’re hoping to create a documentary for an English-speaking audience. There are now only 22 Korean survivors left. It’s imperative that we act now to demand justice for comfort women.
hey gaud, i hope this isnt an insensitive question, but what exactly is a sensory issue? i think it has to do with things like being unable to hear chewing/swallowing (aka hell) but im not actually sure
not insensitive at all, and thanks for asking <3
in the original post i was referencing sensory processing disorder, which is very common among autistic folk. i’ve only done limited research, but it’s my impression that sensory processing issues can be comorbid with/a subcomponent of a number of other mental health issues. basically, it’s a good conversation for the neurodivergent community to have!
different sensory stuff can cause trouble for different people. E.g. your example of the sound of chewing/swallowing. some common sensory issues I’ve seen people talk about:
sound of styrofoam
sound of utensils/ceramics/plateware/etc
chalkboard & nails (very common one!)
fingernails scratching on certain surfaces
the compulsion to ‘balance’ out footsteps, physical actions (such as blinking, hand gestures, etc). for instance stepping ‘too hard/not hard enough’ on one side and needing to ‘make up for it’.
the feeling or sound of rough surfaces
feeling of old/dirty/wrong fabrics
those are some of the more common ones, but there are plenty of others. often there’s no predicting it–it’s a nuisance, but there aren’t always rules!
[id: swole doge as "schools when it comes to dress code:" saying: "you Will take off your hat, you Will Not wear a tank top". on the other side is crying doge as "schools, apparently, when it comes to masks:" saying: "sowwy theres no law for masks anyways can u step into this room full of 30 people in close proximity to u"]
