I just don’t get it. How can our society act so goddamned normal about seahorses. How can anybody so casually accept that that’s a fish???
This is one of nature’s most anatomically perverse of all beasts. A FISH, like a carp or a bass or a beta is a fish, but it bent its body straight up only to bend its head permanently back down. It stretched its skull into a pipe. It tapered its tail like a lizard, specifically like a chameleon. It can also move its eyes independently by the way, you know, like a chameleon. Fun fact, it can change color to express its mood, like you know whatever does that. It doesn’t properly swim anymore. It buzzes its few remaining fins like an insect’s wings to float itself around at a snail’s pace. It lives its whole life clinging to coral branches or seaweed, which means it decided to become a “tree dweller” in an environment where gravity didn’t even matter anyway. The males get pregnant. They make noises at each other by rubbing some of their neck bones together. Every day, EVERY DAY a mated pair does a little dance and a little neck bone song so they remember which two seahorses they were. They’re a beautiful precious obscenity. Nothing so adorable ever made such a strong case against a logical creator.
They have as little skin and meat as they could get away with. Their skeleton is almost all they are.
If you like Danganronpa, Zero Escape, or other stuff in that death game/discussion genre, then I would highly recommend Your Turn to Die: Death Game by Majority! It’s a free RPGMaker game about a group of people that get stuck in a mysterious place where they’re forced to play various deadly games, including the recurring Main Game, where they have to discuss and vote for one of their members to die.
It’s mostly a visual novel/point-and-click kind of game, although it does have some minigames, and the main gimmick is that there are discussion segments where you can argue against people, present evidence, etc. to either solve problems or decide on issues:
The characters are all multi-dimensional, the writing is good, and overall it’s just shockingly well-made for something that’s produced by a single person. Like, I’ve read a shocking amount of death game media by this point, and I genuinely thing that this game has one of, if not THE best emotional handlings of the concept out of everything I’ve read.
Other highlights of the game:
most of the cast are adults, with only a few children/teenagers (the main character is a teenage girl)
almost no unnecessary sexual content (as i remember, there’s one non-explicit bath scene but that’s about it)
none of the characters are underutilized, and all their deaths are sad but never cheap/narratively unfair
starting in chapter two, the game has branching paths depending on who you chose to live/die!
one of the characters is an elementary schooler named Gin and he wears a cat-eared cape and carries around a giant stuffed cat and he barks and meows when he talks:
It’s not finished yet, but the final chapter is being released, and you can play the parts that ARE out for free on vgperson’s website!!! You can also find a list of content warnings there, since being as this is a game about death, there IS a lot of heavy stuff in there.
fucked up how colors look different depending on what screen you’re looking at them on. that should be illegal I think

Hmm my freckles aren't dark enough
Hello hello my very small gathering of people! I’m getting back into Percy Jackson (and all related series) again! So have a Leo for such an occasion :)
how are you just so slay all the time?
By the way, this is actually my "irl friendly main blog". Go be mutuals with @evilfarmin instead, this is just where I send non anon asks from :)
deep sea creatures are so fascinating, I don't care how scary they are. I wanna see how fucked up and nightmarish these little guys can get.
God I adore them and how crazy they are like?
Look at this guy, the Barreleye fish. First off I adore critters that are see through, but this dude's cool because those green balls? Those are his eyes, the ones on the front of its face aren't real. Not to mention it's eyes are pointed straight up? Like? My dude hunts by looking at shadows above it.
In a similar vein meet the fish that looks like it has chapped lips despite living in the water, the telescope fish
Like the Barreleye, these guys hunt by staring towards the surface, using the minimal light to see shadows of their prey. They're only about 20cm long but they can extend their jaws and swallow prey twice their size and fold it in half in their stomachs.
Okay, let's take a quick break from fish, let's take a look at a different sleep paralysis demon, the Pycnogonida or sea spider
There's so so many species of these guys, but my favorite thing is that since they're basically all leg, that's where all their organs are too.
Okay break over, let's do one last one, my baby, one of the most beautiful ocean critters, the frilled shark
These guys are like, the blueprint for sharks, they've been around for 80 million years and despite their mouths genuinely looking like the gate to hell, they're not that dangerous to us. In fact we're more dangerous to them due to the way their bodies are pressurized and built for the freezing depths they live in, after leaving a certain depth it's basically an insta death. But, they can get up to six feet long and live roughly 25 years (scientists aren't quite sure on their lifespan) they're also pregnant for over three years which is like. Yikes. But those teeth, 25 rows with over 300 in total. Crazy. No worries though, their jaws are pretty weak and they tend to eat squid, like it's 60% of their diet, the rest mostly being made up of smaller sharks and bony fish.
Anyway, these aren't horrifying deep sea critters (Google hatchet fish if you want that) but these are a few I had off the top of my head!
