Totally agree with you. He’s protecting Aaron just like Aaron thinks he’s protect Liv, by not letting her go to Gordon’s sentencing.
I need to say this before everyone starts having a go at Robert tonight about him getting rid of the letter to Aaron from Gordon. And you know what? I totally get why he does it.
Remember how badly Aaron reacted to getting a birthday card from Gordon? That was “only” a birthday card. This is no doubt going to be a letter to Aaron that has no other purpose than for Gordon to torment Aaron even from inside a prison cell. That no matter what Aaron will never be rid of Gordon. And even if it turns out to be a suicide note how do you think Aaron will react to that? Not well that’s for sure! Despite everything he’ll probably feel guilty on some level knowing what he’s like.
And keep in mind that Robert nearly watched Aaron die bc he couldn’t deal with having Gordon back in his life. Robert’s bound to be scared that this will trigger Aaron and make him start self-harming again as he’s stressed enough as it is atm trying to be a parental figure to Liv without this on top of everything.
Aaron is only just trying to get his life back on track and doing his best to move on and live with what happened to him as a child at the hands of Gordon. He’s following Robert’s advice and giving happiness a chance. Aaron’s been smiling a lot more lately…I mean when has Aaron ever smiled as much as he’s doing right now?!
So hasn’t Gordon ruined enough for Aaron already? Why should Gordon be allowed to still torture Aaron and make him feel constantly unsafe even when Aaron has gotten justice? Robert’s only trying to protect Aaron from anymore harm from Gordon the same way Aaron is trying to protect Liv by refusing to let her go to Gordon’s sentencing.
And can you really blame Robert for not wanting to see his boyfriend collaps and nearly die in his arms bc he’s cut himself too deep again bc Gordon was taunting Aaron once more?! I don’t think so! And it’s not even like it’s a rash decision Robert makes. He actually talks it through with Adam and weighs up the pros and cons of giving Aaron the letter. Something the old Robert wouldn’t have done. So cut Robert some slack and just think about how he’s actually doing this out of love and nothing else.
Most assuredly!
You know… I’ve been thinking a lot about why no one else works as well for Aaron Dingle as Robert Sugden.
I think it’s because, just in terms of sheer gravitas, Robert was the partner Aaron deserved.
Aaron’s stature and standing on the show - love him or hate him, you can’t deny that he’s an Emmerdale icon - required someone with equal presence and history. He couldn’t be with the male equivalent of a Tracey. An icon deserves an iconic love.
So who else but Robert Sugden could even come close?
They are titans, heavy hitters, only sons of Emmerdale’s first families (sorry Andy). They are the epic love story both their characters deserved and it makes sense that they are eachothers redemption.
More so than any other pairing, Robert and Aaron ARE Emmerdale. So it’s fitting they get their own Christmas special.
Aaron is the first person Robert has ever shown DEEP love to since I’ve known Robert. His girlfriends were more to please his dad, than a real feeling he had for them. This is the first time he’s felt love so deeply and stayed against all odds.
Do you think Roberts the type to chase after everyone he fancies? If he's attracted to someone he's just got to have them?
Yeah I guess so, he did with Aaron. I think more so because he was really intrigued by Aaron. I don’t really remember back when he was younger if he chased after the ones he fancies. I think it depends on who it is, if it is someone who really interests him like Aaron then yeah, I’d say so.
🙏❤🇮🇱
That’s the truth of it!
Monday morning and the fandom wakes up with realisation that we have a whole week to wait before we see them on our screens again. Then hits Twitter & tumblr for a fix and finds nothing 😩 So desperately searches for the gifs of cute bits😊
Reblog if you agree.
