So a few months ago my lovely girlfriend @p0ck3tf0x showed me one of her favourite movie “The pirates of Penzance” (now a favourite of mine too!) and since then we have been talking about Prucan Pirates!AU and how well Gilbert would fit into the Pirate king role…..
So of course I had to draw a scene from it!:D
Before I was a Hetalia blog I actually had a Harry Potter blog. I figure hey, why not take my in depth Harry Potter knowledge and apply it to Hetalia. So here is Some of the Extras.
Austria: Ravenclaw- We all saw this one coming. Austria is about as Ravenclaw as you can get. Really there snot much detail to go into this one. We all already knew he was Ravenclaw.
Hungary: Gryffindor- Of course Hungary is a Gryffindor. That daring girl was always diving head first into an challenge even to armies much larger that herself. She has that “I can do it myself” attitude that all Gryffindors seem to posses.
Spain: Hufflepuff- Okay I know a lot of people put him in Gryffindor or Slytherin just by default but I really love him in Hufflepuff. Just think about his personality. He’s always so helpful. I mean look at how he waits on Romano hand and foot. A Gryffindor wouldn’t do that. And a Slytherin certainly wouldn’t.
Switzerland: Slytherin- As where Hungary has a “I can do it myself” Way of thinking Switzerland has more of a “Do it yourself” life style. This is Slytherin through and through. A Slytherin would never get involved in something unless it benefited them somehow. Switzerland sees no reason for anyone’s conflicts to ever involve him seeing as he will never get anything out of it.
Liechtenstein: Slytherin- I put her in Slytherin for the exact reason i put Belarus in Gryffindor. I think she would want to be sorted where her brother was and I think Switzerland would have told her to ask the hat to put her there, because he is over protective of her. I don’t think Slytherin is a good fit for her she’s more of a Hufflepuff but I think that she would have known she would be a nervous wreck without Switzerland.

big spoon/little spoon:
They switch! Lovino likes feeling wanted and gets comfort out of feeling someone’s heartbeat while he dozes off, but Gilbert has a special love for being the little spoon. In the words of Jake Peralta: everyone likes to be the little spoon, it makes you feel safe!
favorite non-sexual activity:
maybe a controversial one, but i almost want to say reading? Gilbert is an avid reader, and while Lovino isn’t quite as into it, I feel like their interests in what they do read have a nice little overlap. Picture this: Gilbert reclining on the sofa reading a book with Lovino curled up next to him, looking over his shoulder sometiems and making dumb comments at the out of context passages he reads (L: he’s sore from the “hand tourney”, huh? G: listen, i know it’s Game of Thrones but it WASN’t a euphemism!)
who uses all the hot water:
Lovino every time! Gilbert doesn’t take very long showers- in too long and it gives his mind too much of a chance to wander- but Lovino is the type to wither dissociate in the shower for 40 minutes, or fix himself a giant bath, both of which are cranked up to the hottest temperature possible.
most trivial thing they fight over:
God, I don’t even know- they can both be so petty, so it’s probably something as ridiculous as completing a simple task.
who does most of the cleaning:
Gilbert. No question about it.
what has a season pass on their dvr/who controls the netflix queue:
All the strangest shows. Gilbert likes to watch war films and documentaries to point out or laugh at the inaccuracies, while Lovino prefers lighter content. But Lovino usually ends up with control of the queue, because let’s face it; Gilbert is Weak.
who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working:
Gilbert. Lovino is always the one to bring it up to Gilbert, because he gets cold easy, but isn’t going to go over and complain if there’s someone else that can do it for him.
who steals the blankets:
Lovino
who leaves their stuff around:
Lovino
who remembers to buy the milk
Technically they both do, but Lovino refuses to let Gilbert shop alone unless he has to. He’s a real stickler for food quality.
who remembers anniversaries:
They both do!
Who cooks normally?
Lovino
How often do they fight?
I feel like they’d bicker mostly, but it doesn’t turn into anything too serious unless a nerve is hit or Gilbert lets it. While he does love a good fight, Gilbert has the presence of mind to not let his relationship be filled with spats; he can pick his battles.
What do they do when they’re away from each other?
Nothing drastic- Gilbert probably talks about Lovino a bit more than usual, and Lovino likely does something lame like wear Gil’s clothes to bed bc he misses him.
Nicknames for each other?
Lovino doesn’t really do nicknames, outside of affectionate insults. Conversely, Gilbert probably calls Lovino every obnoxious nickname under the sun.
Who is more likely to pay for dinner?
They both fight over it and usually end up taking turns. They’re both stupid men with stupid prides.
Who steals the covers at night?
Lovino. He is never warm enough.
What would they get each other for gifts?
Something very thoughtful and personalised- Gilbert, because he’s a tryhard, and Lovino because of a mix of genuine care + insecurities of not being enough.
Who kissed who first?
Shockingly, Lovino kissed Gilbert.
Who made the first move?
Again, Lovino. Ludwig got his hopelessness in romance from his brother and it shows. Its one of the only things that can trump Lovino’s fear of rejection.
Who remembers things?
They both do, i feel like? It just manifests in different ways.
Who started the relationship?
Gilbert, perhaps, I think Lovino would’ve been the first one to make an impulsive move, but Gilbert is the one to suggest making it official.
Who cusses more?
Lovino
What would they do if the other was hurt?
Physically? Lovino would do his Best, while Gilbert would have a pretty good stab at patching him up himself. Emotionally, however, Lovino is actually the one better equipped to deal with it. Gilbert is closed off at best, but Lovino would be able to see through his bullshit to an extent in getting to know him, and stubborn his way through getting somewhere if need be. Gilbert is a bit more useless in comforting Lovino, but he’d try.
some mers and not mers
Great question! Let’s break it down.
Alfred is a spontaneous person. He’s goal-oriented like Ludwig, but while Ludwig is in things for the long run, Alfred gets bored- frustrated even- with problems that take consistent tedious work to solve. His need for constant excitement and stimulation is a large factor in his “hero” mentality and tendency to engage in risky behaviors and bouts of passion. Alfred at his best is genuine, driven and magnetic, but at his worst he’s manipulative, flighty, a man with misplaced passions. Additionally, Alfred is actually adept at reading people, but because he’s tactless, he can be offensive when relaying these observations.
Ludwig, on the other hand, is prone to getting caught up in routines. Order, efficiency and honesty are of paramount importance to him. Ludwig is a loyal, dedicated individual, but likely due to his rushed childhood, he lacks emotional intelligence and presents as very repressed. Ludwig at his best is dutiful, moralistic and grounded, but at his worst paranoid, bitter and closed off. Ludwig is a good person in the sense that he has a strong sense of morality and does try his best, but like Alfred, he’s prone to being misguided.
Beginning with their similarities, we can see that both Alfred and Ludwig are driven, direct, more rational than feeling-based in their decisions and stubborn as hell. The key in their chemistry lies here in the nuances between these shared traits.
While they’re both driven, Alfred isn’t destructive about it. He’ll reach his goals, but he won’t burn himself out and stringently follow every rule along the way. This is beneficial for Ludwig who has an inclination towards getting caught up in work and rules. Ludwig attempts to pile on everything with little regard for his actual limits and consequently, drowns himself in stress, but because Alfred is generally rational and equally stubborn, he’s someone Ludwig is likely to listen to and stop.
However, Ludwig isn’t always the one needing to be pulled down a notch. Alfred can be unreasonable and foolhardy when he feels boxed in, and even more so than Ludwig, he tends to throw himself into messy things like revolutions in the name of the greater good. Because of this wild plunging into the dark, Alfred would find Ludwig who’s grounded, realistic and responsible his saving grace.
Similarity wise, they’re both direct people which is key considering neither of them appreciate playing games and prefer to state things as they are. It ensures they’re unlikely offend each other by being blunt.
Practicality is also important to both of them which is a principal factor in them properly meshing. Many individuals who possess Alfred’s spontaneity and boldness lack his practicality, and without this practicality, Ludwig would be unable to handle him, leading to the relationship failing due to insurmountable differences. Another central point is the fact that Alfred does indeed possess this spontaneity because practicality and rational action alone in a person would be detrimental for Ludwig as he would never be allowed to grow. Furthermore, the converse of this is the reason why Alfred pairs well with Ludwig as someone overly emotional to the point of irrational action would be bothersome to Alfred while someone as impulsive as himself would be a danger.
Ludwig is someone very set on commitment. Setting expectations and boundaries is crucial to him being in a satisfying relationship while Alfred, contrarily, is set on keeping things spicy. This is positive for both of them as while they’re both big on turning words into action, Alfred applies this to hobbies and outings whereas Ludwig often limits this to work, and while Alfred has trouble sitting down and talking things out, Ludwig fills in by ensuring communication is properly carried out. Moreover, Ludwig often falls into monotonous routine which makes Alfred’s spontaneity a positive force in his life while Ludwig anchors Alfred, someone who’s prone to flitting out of relationships without proper incentive, in a relationship he establishes as steady and honest between the excitement.
This applies socially as well because Ludwig, as an introvert, does get tired of people and attention while Alfred, as an extrovert, is already extremely sociable and adores being in the spotlight. This could be a point of contention between them, but I believe it would work in their favor as Ludwig wouldn’t be allowed to hole himself up at home while Alfred would learn to live a little slower as life doesn’t always have got a million miles a minute.
I would like to bring up is where they’d clash. While I strongly believe their differences would allow the other to grow as a person while still maintaining their relationship as positive and enjoyable, I cannot ignore the fact that Alfred’s rule-breaking propensity and avoidance of delicate- especially in regards to emotions- situations would cause strife in their relationship just as Ludwig’s difficulty being open and need to follow the directives of authority would.
Yet because of how well they mesh and their love and respect for one another, they would, in my personal opinion, be able to overcome these challenges and grow because of them.
If you read this all, I’m actually very impressed! I hope you enjoyed your read! If you’re interested in more ship analysis please send in a request to my personal, @realmzenith .
