an unfriendly reminder ☺️
W GREEN DAY!
Hey friendly reminder to love and cherish Green Day
we'll stick together, it's okay
Dehumanizing bigots is bad, not because I want to be nice to them, but because they are human beings and they serve as a reminder that anyone is capable of evil ideation and action. Violent bigots are not fundamentally different beings from you. They are human beings, who have developed a reactionary and destructive belief system due to their circumstances combined with their biases. In a different timeline, that could've been you. Anyone can be radicalized. Nobody is immune to propaganda, not even the person reading this.
so people who do this may see it.
Something I've noticed growing more common in my life recently has been people using exclusively "they" when referring to binary trans people who don't use "they"
Using "they" when referring to someone when you don't know is seen as "better" in a lot of spaces now, which I can agree with as you don't know what their actual pronouns are. The problem I've noticed is that when meeting a trans person, a lot of people seem to default to "they" even after being told what pronouns they actually prefer. This can be for a lot of reasons, but the most common ones I hear are "I didn't want to assume" and "its not misgendering, they is neutral!"
Person A meets person B, a trans woman. A doesn't know B's pronouns and so refers to B as "they." B corrects A, saying she prefers "she," but A continues to say "they" because its gender neutral. However, A does not do the same to cis women.
The use of exclusively "they" on trans people but not cis people, no matter your excuse, shows that you don't really see them as what they identify as and is quite transphobic since you're literally ignoring their identity and not seeing them as how they want to be seen.
Simple, just ask them their pronouns and then ACTUALLY USE THEM!! If he says he, DONT USE EXCLUSIVELY THEY! If she says she, DONT USE EXCLUSIVELY THEY! If they say they, well. yeah, use they, obviously. If xe say neopronouns and you don't know how to use those, just ask! If any part of someone's identity confuses you, just fucking ask them instead of assuming, for the love of god, and once they tell you, don't ignore what they said.
That's all. Just please stop calling people who don't use "they" by that.
I got this comment and thought I should clarify and add on some MORE things you should avoid doing now that this post has aged a bit, and I've had more time to think!
Please do not attack this person, i dont think they meant it in any bad way
While yes, 'gender' does not directly tell you someones pronouns or what terms they're comfortable with, but misgendering doesn't only mean calling a man a woman or a woman a man. Misgendering is usually thought to only mean using a trans person's assigned sexs' pronouns or deadnaming, but it's actually more than just that, it includes what terms you use for them, how you group them, and what societal expectations you put onto them based on their assigned sex, not just their gender.
* Obviously, these won't apply to every situation. These are just general rules to follow UNTIL YOU KNOW THE PERSON. Once they tell you what they're comfortable with, then do what they ask, not what some random tumblr post says
Calling all gender non-conforming people 'it'
Deadnaming, obviously
Using gendered pronouns for a non-conforming person
Arguing with someone over the validity of their identity
Automatically introducing someone as trans
Assuming someone is out to other family or friends
Using incorrectly gendered terms, including when referring to a group
Exclusively using gender neutral terms/compliments
TLDR: Don't say, "But some people use it/its!" and read the paragraph directly above the numbered list.
Stop telling me that some people use it/its, I already know this. I used it/its at one point, and many of my friends do. As i said in the paragraph litrrally directly before, these won't apply to every situation!! Please stop trying to correct me when I already said that it's not going to be universal and to follow the person's wishes once you know them. Its making me feel like a bad person despite the fact i started it with that clarification. It's literally in the paragraph directly above your complaint. I was referring to people who use it/its exclusively when referring to gender non-conforming people who don't use it/its, instead of the persons actual pronouns. Just read.
Grief was a strange thing. He had always thought that it came in like a wave. Whenever he had read about it or saw it through a screen it had seemed elegant in its destruction. He knew, of course, that it was debilitating. But he hadn’t expected it to be quite like this. The hollowness that accompanied it. As though his heart and soul had been torn from his being, body still calling out for them but finding nothing in their place. It allowed the pain to echo and rebound within him. Compounding on itself.
And he still couldn’t quite comprehend the guilt that caused his mind to turn in on itself as well. The ‘why’ that would never be answered. Nice had taken his own life. Why? He would have been there for him. How much pain had he been in? To the point where he never reached out, never asked for help, hadn’t thought to lean on his shoulder? If he could even do that anymore. They could have run away together. Left Nice and Wreck behind.
Left it all behind.
But now he is gone.
And someone else had taken his face. Had taken his voice. His eyes. All of it. Keeping him alive when all he had wanted to do was rest.
The fight, the one he had looked forward to, a moment to reunite with his other half, was meaningless. The anger that had burned within him managing to go out all too soon, the grief that had come drowning any last embers.
And when he fell he let himself.
It felt like freedom. Like he was chasing after Nice one last time.
Perhaps he was waiting for him, wherever he had ended up.
And wherever they were at the end of this, they’d be together. As they should have always been.
Yes. Some autistic people can pay taxes, write poems, live an independent life, etc.
But some of us cant. Some of us, like me, cant live independently. Cant be without someone. Cant be a member of society without extreme accommodation and help.
I need help in everyday life. I have a caregiver for gods sake. I need help in everyday life and will never be independent. It’s frustrating to constantly get comments about how autistic people can live independently. Cause some of us cant, and that needs to be talked about. I get sores from not showering enough. I get sores from my wheelchair. I have cavities from not brushing my teeth enough.
Life with higher support needs shouldn’t be something that is ignored and not talked about. My caregiver helps me live life as independently as possible. Independence looks different for everyone. Our caregivers are an extension of ourselves. Our caregivers are important and should be recognized. Stop throwing us under the bus for your “salvation”
We are all at risk, and throwing higher support needs people under the bus will not benefit you. You’re ruining years of advocacy by your words and videos.
Petty complaint but why can't there be more masc!readers??
Everytime I see an x reader, it's always it's always fem!reader, my transmasc ass cannot get through them because I get dysphoric as FUCK. And I for one cannot dream of writing one, I'd cringe at myself and delete.
Like I'd love to read some x readers about JJk because I know there are DARN GOOD ONES but I DON'T because if I don't get laid as a man I ain't getting laid I get hella dysphoric I cannot. 😭
If you find any good x male readers, please send me. I need to start reading fanfic again.
HAPPY LATE BDAY, SATORU!
