When Francesca bridgerton is confirmed as a sapphic
First of I want to say that it is in no way me bashing Julia Quinn. She has wrote a popular book series that she managed to put on the screen and for that she deserves alot of respect.
BUT
The books are a hot messes for many, many, many reasons, the three last one are ok but still quite questionable.
(I am obviously in no way claiming to be a better writter or that what I'll do will be good but I decided to rewrite and change what I didn't like and what I think could do better. )
Important information about this rewrite :
As I had hard time with honestly any of the love interest, ESPECIALLY, the boys one (with the exception of my boy Gregory, you were boring but cute) and that I felt like the women character had honestly a waste of potential I will change all of them a LOT. I will also rant about why I didn't like them in the first place.
As the books are so messy I also consider the series as canon and I have a lot of confusion about the way the society and great experiments was done ?! Like honestly WASTED potential.
This will NOT be historically accurate my dear friends purely fictional as I'll state multiple time.
We do not see much politics in the Bridgertons but as sexism exist you cannot brush over or make racism disapear in what 40 years ? I try to be sensible about but as I am a white individual I might make mistake and apologise if so and will correct it.
At first we would still keep the same hierarchy of power than the one in real life and, I assume, in the show.
Secondly let's talk about THE thing that changes everything in the Bridgertons : the Great experiment.
The Great experiment appeared for the same reason than show in Queen Charlotte but it's a bit more subtle. It was introduced mostly so Charlotte could marry the king George but never did the royal councils intended to actually give more power to the "other side" of the society. Even if people could now get invited and participate in activity didn't mean they'd be invited or treated well.
Queen Charlotte is actually the one who shacked things up, after mostly focusing on her marriage at first she slowly woke up and saw that despise what was said her own were still being rejected and treaded unfairly. By attending Lady Danbury ball, she shoke things up. When some titles were left without any heir she would think first of giving it to the "other side" (that's how Simon's dad became Duke) etc.
Even thought the Queen Charlotte promoted tolerance things didn't completely work out that way. The "original" Ton felt jealous and left alone and while they couldn't reject the other side at the more little scandal possible they would directly reject a familly. And while young did marry racized Lord it was almost UNFATHOMABLE that an eligible white Lord would marry a girl of colour. It got a little better but there is still a lot of pression on racized people. A few Lord did actually mary girls from the "other side" the most known one being St-Clair, Abernathy and the Sterlings leaving a lot of preassure on their children because they represent this new kind of union and must be perfect. So it is a big deal that so many of the Bridgertons will have union with people of the other side as they are one of the most old and respected familly.
Might make a house of dragon fiction with India Ria Amarteifio as my oc, her playing queen Charlotte is giving me the perfect opportunity for a black oc with amazing dresses.
Question: Is it completely necessary for him to be this cute & do that unexpected smile that makes me feel things and I don't like it because it raises my expectations of irl men but secretly I love it because damn look at him and if my man ain't like this I don't want him but also can he just..not?
I will never be over Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Stamp the script on my ass, play the meet-cute at my funeral, and bury me with a telescope.
Me: I'll only watch "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story" for the plot.
The Plot:
So, I know we all remember that ICONIC scene of Queen Charlotte talking to her children in 1x01 (I think), well, my school nurse had to give a sex assembly to the grade 11s and the way she started it off was saying; "alright, I would like to start with a little exercise, virgins to the right of my, everyone else to the left of me." everyone burst out laughing.
Anthony’s confession this, George’s confession that like whatever HELLO??? QUEEN CHARLOTTE HERSELF LITERALLY DROPPED THE HARDEST GUT WRENCHING LINE OF ALL???? “I will stand with you between the heavens and the Earth. I will tell you where you are." If someone said that to me I would immediately crumple onto the floor bawling and pull out a ring cmon now
i'm finally watching queen charlotte and, y'all, tell me that these two:
aren't basically just these two:
He is wearing the new ring
I am currently rewatching Bridgerton season 1 and I completely forgot that Queen Charlotte thinks that Brimsley is such a gossip.
And I think she is, as always, right
I love it
She's everything, he's just George
I kept thinking about this the entire time.
why does the actor who plays young george III in queen charlotte look like if someone tried to draw nicholas hoult from memory
these are the same person
I’d like to start by saying Bridgerton is a very amusing piece of absolute fiction. From the dresses to the music to the fanfic tropes it uses and the books it’s based on. It doesn’t even start to pretend it’s realistic. And being a piece of modern historical fantasy made by a woman born in this age, it is alright for the showrunners to give it a modern vibe. If you want, you can trace the lineage of every duke of Hastings there has ever been and know exactly who they were and what they looked like. Everyone knows there was never a black duke of Hastings, meaning there is no harm nor a deliberate attempt at “changing history” by the showrunners. They’re not pretending they’re portraying real events and real people of 1813. Therefore I accept that in this “alternative reality regency” it is fine for people of all ranks, including Queen Charlotte, to be black. I loved Golda Rosheuvel’s portrayal, I loved her looks, her acting and I tollerate her – indeed, be surprised – half-ishly accurate outdated wardrobe (for those interested in fashion history: look up “regency era court gowns”, old styles were worn but Charlotte would wear normal dresses day-to-day). I’m thrilled to watch her in the second season as well.
However, I will screech if I see people claiming Charlotte was black in real life. There were black people in Europe during all periods of history. They could be very influential and wealthy, and yes, they could even be nobility in some rare cases. There is a growing field of research tracing the steps of black people in Europe throughout time, revealing the often overlooked presence of black people. However, Queen Charlotte isn’t one of them. And I say this being I believe claiming her to be black, would mean the British Monarchy, way ahead of its time, was accepting of black people, and the British people, who were more than a bit racist, generally accepted a (partially) black woman. Rather than Charlotte being black leading to her being described as black, I believe the confusion about her being black comes from people back in the day using racially ambiguous terms to describe people as being ugly and bad, because of racism and colonialism.
Being a historian, I do believe I have to give evidence for my claim. I’ll be using her ancestry, written descriptions and paintings. However, buckle up because you’ll be getting a lot of side information on other people of colour in art and literature. So if you’re interested in learning a bit about the relationship between the concepts of race and beauty in the 18th and 19th century, here we go. (note: if I use any offensive terms without direct citing someone, do let me know I will change them as soon as possible)

I just want to point out that Queen Charlotte is KILLING ME. Her and Lady Danbury KNOW about Brimsley and Reynolds AND they keep it a secret?? Girl bosses.💅
