I think there is a more conscious reasoning behind the absence of parents in Isak's life, specifically in drawing the parallel between his mother and Even (his mother having mental health issues is also established in season one.) I was a little confused by his relationship with his father, and think that it still feels in some way that the lack of parents is contrived so that he can live with Eskild. But compared to Eva and Noora, the show really makes an attempt to immerse us in the way that Isak sees his parents, which is distant from him. They definitely play a larger role thematically even if they are present less than Eva's mom for example. Not Isak's parents, but I think the scene in episode 9 with Magnus talking about his mom is really great.
How does SKAM's treatment of Isak's parents differ from its treatments of Eva and Noora's parents?
