Curate, connect, and discover
end of the day post— 24 november, 2023. (will publish on 25th bc this will be a long one.)
i don’t think i was exactly ready yet to make my more intimate post earlier today, but i am now. i’m going to say everything i have to say.
dear freddie,
the 32nd anniversary of your death is coming to a close, and i haven’t been able to stop thinking about you throughout the day. today has been a day of reflecting on the impact you brought not just me but the world.
let me start by saying that i was barely 10 when i came out as queer. i was just starting to figure out myself, and growing up in a more right-winged than not area i had the odds against me as a person. having your influence even back then as a kid, you were one of the first people who helped me see that my sexuality would be nothing more and nothing less than a part of me. it does not define my abilities. it is simply there, and above all, a portion of my being that i should never be ashamed of. i am now in high school and a proud lesbian, and, in large part, i owe that happiness in myself to you.
i think i speak for many people here when i say that you have inspired us to have confidence in ourselves. you’ve inspired us to be bold and never hide from any opportunity. even THIRTY-TWO years after your death that influence is STILL strong and undying, and it will see no end.
which brings me to this.
freddie mercury, dreamer, singer and shining star:
NOTHING IN THIS WORLD can even HINDER your influence on the world. AIDS WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO HURT your soul and impact. i know for a fact that every person who remembered you today knows that as long as your music survives, you’ll be with us.
even though you may be in heaven your voice will always be heard.
love ya freddie. we all do. we all will, for the rest of time.
freddie,
today marks 32 years since we lost you, and we miss you more every day.
though you may be gone in body, through your songs your soul lives on.
fly high, angel. we love you.

My friend’s band played a old classic song.
I saw this on reels (reels is either gore, racism, homophobia/transphobia, communist/capitalist brain rot, or the funniest thing you’ve ever seen) and It didn’t connect in my head that the reel was trying to talk about illegal immigrants and I was like, “THEY KICKED HIM OUT OF SCHOOL FOR BEING A GENESIS FAN?!?!?”

this is my favorite interview, the way george stares at him omg
Appetite for Destruction, released on July 21st 1987, is what I would personally consider a perfect debut for a band such as GNR. From the lifechanging opening of Welcome to the Jungle to the concluding chord of Rocket Queen, this album is EXACTLY what it wants to be: it’s mean, it’s dirty, it’s unpredictable, and it’s completely unapologetic. While I personally don’t think any of their other material is interesting enough to dissect, I find Appetite to be engaging enough to literally grab you by the balls and keep you listening, singing, dancing, screaming, and doing whatever else this monster of an album pushes you to do. While the musical side of this record is obviously quite primitive and doesn’t reach for any new or groundbreaking heights, it’s still effective as fuck (seriously though, try to put on It’s So Easy and stay in one place). The energy it brings is unlike any other, it’s so beautifully and uniquely messy that I struggle to find the words to describe how much I love it. I wish I had a vocabulary wide enough to explain what I find so bewitching about the 80s-LA-SexDrugsAndRockNRoll vibe it creates but oh well. Happy birthday/anniversary Appetite!!

Under rated rockstars that I can never find any good fic for!
1. Dave Davies
I can always find stuff with his brother but not him!
2. Eric Brittingham
Always Tom Keifer this Tom Keifer that, but never Eric!
3. Tom Petty
I mean why is it so hard to find a half decent Tom Petty fic?
4. Steve Jansen (honestly all of Japan)
I know they weren’t as popular as some of your other favorite bands, but these guys were fucking cool. Not to mention, incredibly hot. Steve is my favorite but it’s always all about his sorry excuse for a brother David!
5. Eric Burdon
I mean, here I was thinking that The Animals were a rather popular band from the 60s, but I was clearly wrong. Not mention, Eric was so fine I thought more chics would be pining for him.
Those are just the ones I’m thinking of off the top of my head. If you find some half decent fan fiction with these mfs let me know! I’m always looking for new fic!
