When the guests came and you can’t get up from the table and go to your room
as you were a person of bubbly character, he'd gotten used to your bright and cheerful nature, and the ridiculous shenanigans that came along with it. that included your numerous tries to woo him into dating you, with each attempt ending in failure. you weren't too depressed by it, returning to your usual jovial personality even after rejections... and he'd taken that for granted. he didn't expect you to do the “push-and-pull” tactic on him, and neither did he expect it'd work so well.
includes: zhongli, albedo & kazuha
pt. 1 - diluc, xiao & childe
pt. 3 - ayato & heizou
ZHONGLI, despite his tendency to forget his wallet in times he offered to pay for dinner or his shortcomings regarding with romance in general, still managed to grasp the hearts of men and women alike. it wasn't odd for the ferrylady to knock on his door and tiredly brief him about yet another visitor eager to see him, and he had to wave them off if they weren't a client for the funeral parlor.
there was one person he couldn't possibly fend off, though. you.
it's not that ZHONGLI didn't want you to leave. it was more of his inability to urge you to do so. his stern rejections didn't deter you from continuing to court him, thus you were unafraid to see him once more even after yesterday's answer being a firm “i can't reciprocate your affection.” your tenacity was impressive, he'd give you that, but that wasn't an actual compliment, was it? he was only calling you a stubborn fool, one way or another.
it didn't help that you were closely acquainted with the funeral parlor's director, hu tao herself. your presence was greatly welcomed in his workplace, as her good friend, and nobody could turn you away. ZHONGLI could understand why you got along so well; you were both troublemakers in your own right.
when you came over that afternoon, he had already prepared himself for a terrible time. you often pestered him to go on a date with you, and he regularly turned down the invitations without a second thought. the thing is, you could take “no” for an answer... but the reason you assume behind that rejection was “he doesn't like the place” instead of “he doesn't want to go with you,” hence you pestering him to visit a more agreeable location. you knew he'd eventually give in if you annoyed him enough.
but that didn't happen. you headed straight to hu tao's office without offering him a single glance, papers in hand, and he assumed it was work related. that meant you wouldn't come disturb him anymore: a cause for celebration!
yet that didn't pull a sigh of relief from him, much to his surprise. he only felt... conflicted. his muddled feelings mixed into a sense of unease, and it wouldn't leave.
ZHONGLI perked up when the office doors swung open an hour later, unknowingly anticipating your figure to strut through. “do you want to go out for lunch? i heard the restaurant nearby got a new menu. my treat, since i received this month's salary,” you grinned at hu tao, who brightened upon the news of free food.
meanwhile, ZHONGLI did the opposite, slumping over his chair. he'd heard of the new menu. in fact, he thought it sounded delicious, fitting perfectly with his tastes. he assumed you'd ask him out like you always did. he wanted you to ask him. no, hold on a second... why was he feeling this way?
“a tempting offer, but...!” hu tao sighed loudly, catching his attention. with an inconspicuous wink, she said, “i'm afraid i have a pile of work waiting for me! hey mr. zhongli, would you mind coming for my stead?”
he was sure you'd think hu tao was helping you court him and not the other way around. that was okay for him, too.
“...it's fine,” he said, settling his paperwork off to side of his desk before standing from his seat.
“nope, don't be so fast to reject me, ZHONGLI! if you don't like that restaurant, then we can- huh?” you blinked at him owlishly, in utter disbelief. he almost chuckled fondly at your strange expression.
(he steeled his resolve to end this “push-and-pull” once and for all.)
it was of no surprise to know ALBEDO despised anyone who'd dare disturb him in the middle of his studies, and yes, perhaps you were the sole exception, but you were on thin fucking ice. even klee had to stay out of his room when he was busy. he'd been patient at first, politely requesting you to leave for the time being or wait until his work was over, but it was hard to remain as generous when you were... plainly speaking, being a bother. everybody knew it was taboo to intrude his office, and really, you were only a distraction he didn't need to be around.
sucrose had been the poor recipient of all his grumblings, left with no other choice but to awkwardly laugh whenever complaints spilled from his mouth. still, she noted the hint of fondness lacing his words; annoyed nonetheless, but not to the point that it gravely upset him.
“is it that bad for me to visit? i try not to talk...” you inquired one day, pouting as ALBEDO was clearly occupied with mixing an oddly colored concoction. he sighed, explaining that even only the presence of another could be a hindrance. he pointedly left out the part where he'd end up getting distracted by your pretty face, which was actually the real reason behind his actions.
that moment, you simply nodded in solemn understanding, but he didn't think better of it. yet when the next day came, you didn't swing by; ALBEDO was elated, assuming it was just a lucky day, but you didn't visit the next day either. or the next, or the following days after that. when a week passed and there was no sign of your whereabouts anywhere near his office, his concerns grew tenfold.
it was, admittedly, humiliating to turn to the door excitedly whenever he heard a knock, only to be crestfallen to see sucrose. honestly, what was he expecting? she was his assistant, so of course it'd be her and not anyone else. that was how it was supposed to be in the first place without your meddlesome presence.
ALBEDO was certain she picked up on his disappoinment, though, if her amused giggle was anything to go by. “i heard [name] traveled far to fetch the flower you wanted to examine since forever,” she informed, kindly pretending not to see the embarrassed flush of his cheeks. “we should give a gift in return!”
“...yes, you're right.”
he didn't miss you, not one bit. absolutely not.
...that being said, he should probably practice his poker face before you returned to mondstadt.
KAZUHA, as carefree as he might seem on the surface, was more cautious than everybody gave him credit for. he didn't respond to your advances not because he didn't like you back, but because he didn't deem himself fit to be your significant other when he'd often leave liyue with the crux fleet to explore. he couldn't promise you a stable relationship, and he thought you deserved someone better than a boyfriend so quick to abandon you.
he told you as much, but you never listened, firm in your decision to stay with him. no matter how long his trips lasted, or how many other people asked for your hand — you wouldn't budge at all.
KAZUHA became content with that, deep down in his heart. he didn't want you to date someone else either. but it wasn't like all his thoughts would be shown to the entire world, so he could choose his words carefully, pick the most rational option. and that option was to let you go, since that would make you happiest.
still, he loved it whenever he saw you waving enthusiastically at him from afar each time the alcor arrived at the harbor. he loved it when you jump into his arms, eager to touch him again after weeks without seeing a glimpse of him. he loved it when you bury your face into his neck, unable to see the pure adoration reflecting in his eyes, the fond expression he had to hide all the time when you were around.
he loved you.
but he had to restrain himself for your sake. that was for the best, wasn't it? he couldn't be selfish. binding you to a relationship wouldn't do you any good. it was far better for you to meet someone else who could actually stay by your side, someone who wouldn't trade you for anything else. someone who could treat you right.
but something in him shatters when he doesn't see you at the docks. the alcor finally returned after a month, and he was near enough to recognize faces from afar, but you weren't there. you were nowhere to be found, and he was growing frantic. you didn't have to be there, but he felt nauseated without your presence. where were you? he hopped off the ship, landing gracefully on steady ground, and he didn't hesitate. his eyes swept across the entire area, searching and searching and searching, and-
who was that man beside you?
“oh, KAZUHA, you're back!” you exclaimed with familiar cheer, grinning widely. he couldn't bring himself to force a smile. “ah, i'm a bit... busy at the moment.” you gestured towards your companion, who nodded at KAZUHA in greeting. “but i swear i'll come once this is over, i promise.”
“it's fine. take your time,” the words managed to escape from his mouth despite the uncomfortable feeling lodged in his throat. you frowned at his despondent countenance, reluctant to leave him as is. you glanced at the man accompanying you, and he took it as his cue to walk ahead.
awkwardly, you shifted your weight from one foot to another. “w-well, i'm... uh...” you were unsure of what to do to lift his spirits. still, you raised your hands to grasp at his shirt, taking a deep breath to prepare yourself. you pecked him on the cheek, successfully snapping him out of his stupor, and he yelped in surprise, his whole face erupting into a shade of crimson. before he could compose yourself, you hastily stepped away from him, waving farewell. “w-we'll be going now! don't miss me too much, okay?”
dumbfounded as he was left behind, he cupped his cheek, the skin where you made contact with tingling beneath his fingertips.
you were just in front of him seconds prior but he already wanted to see you again, so it seemed that he couldn't follow your instructions, unfortunately.

XIAO's words fail him, a failure stuck at the back of his throat from the deepest parts of his beating heart. Such a contrast to your heart that no longer thumps at the same tempo as his.
He is supposed to be used to this — no, he should have grown used to this already.
The putrid stench of death, the pools of scarlet red on the ground and his clothes, the void in his chest that he can't explain every single time.
For eons and eons, Xiao has seen lives perish before his eyes; his comrades, innocent lives, monsters, all of them. That is what he is meant to do; an Adeptus lives to bear pain, to shoulder it with resilience.
So, then, what is this feeling? Ache like never before, a longing for a different outcome, a sense of denial he is unfamiliar with.
Xiao stares blankly at your peaceful face, eyes closed and undisturbed. As if you are only lulled by the soft tune of slumber and merely sleeping in his arms — but that is no more than wishful thinking, he knows this.
Yet, still, he dares to hope.
How ironic, the Yaksha has never gotten along well with the concept of hope. But here he is, gathering the littlest courage to hope that you'd snap open your eyes and laugh at his forlorn expression like you always would.
But you don't, and Xiao realizes he is nothing but a hypocrite.
The same pain he is supposed to shoulder oh-so fearlessly is here, gnawing at his heart and consuming it alive — for once, Alatus doesn't think he can bear it any longer.
He is alone all over again.

Death, an old friend of KAZUHA's that he never wishes to confront ever again. But that statement only reeks of blissful ignorance, doesn't it?
Death casts its gaze on whom it wishes and it takes and it takes, that is the natural course of life — yet, it has become far too familiar of an acquaintance in his life that Kazuha can't help but despise it.
In the back of his mind, Kazuha sees a vision he thought he has long bid his goodbyes to already. The booming flash of thunder, a sword pierced through the floorboard of the Tenshukaku, a fallen friend and a reminder that he was far too late.
This moment is all too familiar.
The darkening clouds above his head, his hands that cradle you close, and your scent that is growing fainter and fainter by the second. Kazuha rests his face into the crook of your neck, muffling his cries against your skin; but you are as cold as ice and snow, so unbelievably cold.
Has the curse of fate come to take from him again? Kazuha's heart is only one, but death seems to favor him so much that it keeps taking pieces of his soul little by little.
Once, a lingering pain he learnt to move on from. Twice, he lets it be this time. Thrice, he begins questioning, just what more does it want from him? His family, his friend, now his one and only lover; Kazuha isn't sure what is left of him now. So, so many have been taken away from him.
"[Y/N]," Kazuha feels ashamed of the way his voice breaks as he whispers your name. He can't even speak properly, but how can he when you lay so feebly in his arms? One movement and it feels as if you'll crumble to dust, unreachable and away from his grasp.
He still has so many haiku's to read to you, songs he wants you to listen to, places he wants to see with your hand in his. So many of them, yet those dreams are nothing but regrets now.
Death will never leave him alone, will it? Even if tears stain his cheeks, even if he pleads with his life, even if he wishes to trade his life for yours, Kazuha is powerless.
"I love you," the man presses his lips to your forehead, he spares no mind to the tears falling down his cheeks like a stream of water he'd drink a fistful from during his travels.
One last time, just one more. But his words fall on deaf ears, for you are already gone and you're not coming back.
Yet again, death has torn away another piece of Kaedehara Kazuha's heart.

ZHONGLI drowns himself in complacent silence. He says nothing, he has nothing to say. The rueful sigh that escapes his lips is the only indication of the lid placed over the gaping sorrow in his chest.
The former Archon of Geo does not shed tears. If he cries, then would it have changed this outcome? No, it wouldn't. If he cries, then would it have lifted this pain in his chest for a brief moment? Perhaps, it would.
But if Zhongli allows tears to cloud his eyes, then hethese last few moments with you. Fate cannot be changed nor can it be severed, all he can do is embrace it wholeheartedly.
"Even if it hurts?" A ghost-like whisper hovers faintly above his ears, trying to shake his resolve. Zhongli affirms himself, "Even if it hurts." He doesn't acknowledge the littlest speck of desire to falter and say otherwise in the corner of his mind.
Even if it hurts.
After all this time, you are still as beautiful as the first day he laid eyes on you, Zhongli smiles as he closes your eyes with the palm of his hand.
Those gem-like [E/C] irises of yours that always stare back at his with such affection, your voice that greets his ears like a gentle melody, the raindrops of love you shower him in so generously.
He can't help but reminisce.
After all, reminiscence is one of, if not the most, loyal friend of his, unbound by erosion of time as long as there is someone who lives to tell the tale. Zhongli knows the story of you shall live, for he will be the one to tell it.
"Rest well, my love."
He will not forget you.
The former Archon of Geo does not shed tears. Yet, that day, the corners of his amber eyes begin to dampen just a little.

ITTO swears he sees his life flashes before his eyes. He is frantic, flighty even as if waiting for someone to get this over with and pinch him awake. This feels like a nightmare, it's just a bad dream, right?
But the warm pool of blood pouring onto his clothes is real, too real to just be a part of his imagination.
No, no, no, this can't be happening.
"Shinobu—" Itto calls out to his deputy leader hurriedly, agitation all too present in his voice. But the anxiety in his stomach churns even worse when he sees the mortified look in Shinobu's eyes; he doesn't like what it alludes to, not one bit.
He pleads almost desperately, "They'll be okay, right? Right?!" Shinobu has never lied to him, she always tells him the truth and so, he waits for an answer.
Reassurance, some hope that everything will be alright, just anything — but he receives no more than silence. And it angers him, Itto can feel the frustration rushing through his veins to his heart and to his head.
His grip on your frail body tightens and a pained holler tears itself from his throat, "Say something, dammit!" But he doesn't mean it, he doesn't mean to yell so harshly at her. He isn't usually like this, what is going on?
When in reality, the answer to his question is right there in his arms; your frail figure lying in his embrace is just a fact waiting to be acknowledged, but he doesn't want to accept it.
Do you expect him to just accept it like that so easily? You know he can't do that, he just can't.
"There is still hope, there is still hope," Itto chants to himself, but even a fool would know those words are nothing more than empty reassurance.
The so-called strongest Oni in Inazuma is so out of it Shinobu can't even gather the courage to point out the truth.
What will become of her boss if she tells him that you are no longer breathing?

60) I’m bleeding from your knife/kicks/punches, but I’m not gonna stop fighting until you’re finally taken down.
61) Every time you taunt me, I see red, and you know this. I should be stronger, but I’m not.
62) I won’t let you hurt the people I love. Not while I’m still breathing.
63) You notice that I’m breathing heavy, and you just keep smirking. I— I can keep going. I can.
64) We used to be friends, what happened to us? Why do we always have to fight?
65) If you’d just put that gun/remote/knife, we could go home, y’know? We don’t have to keep fighting.
66) You’re not fighting like you used to, what happened?
67) This is pathetic and a waste of my time, you’re in my way.
68) You’ve gotten weaker, I can’t help but let a smirk cross my lips, this is almost… funny.
You stumble against the wall with half-lidded eyes. It’d be so easy to just stroll by you, but for some reason, I can’t help but keep taunting you.
69) You hate me. I hate you. Yet, taunting you is one of my favorite things to do.
📂 fruits basket ⇢ “I CAN HOLD THE WORLD IN MY HANDS”
how the sohma boys react to you saying you can hold the world in your hands then gently cupping their face
ft. kyo sohma, yuki sohma & hatori sohma
no warning except maybe it’s kinda ooc. just pure fluff
“i can hold the world in my hands. wanna see?” you blurt out, hands combing through KYO’s hair as he rests his body on top of yours and his face buried in your neck. you’re not sure how much time has passed since your boyfriend joined you in bed but it’s only when he looks up at you that you notice his eyes growing heavy and drowsiness seeping into his visage. you almost feel bad but nonetheless, you run your fingers through his orange locks one last time before sliding your hands down to his cheeks to cradle his face. he only blinks at you until his mind eventually registers what you meant. months ago, that gesture would’ve earned you a scowl from him but he simply bonks the top of your head lightly before he nuzzles against your skin once more to hide the blush in his cheeks. “i was already falling asleep.” he mutters but he doesn’t sound pissed. you apologize anyway as you bring your fingers back up to play with his hair. it’s not long until kyo takes one of your hands and guides it onto his face, urging you to stroke his cheek. “do it again. feels nice.”
“YUKI!” you call your boyfriend’s name the second he emerges into the room. he immediately stops in his tracks, turning to the sound of your voice but before he can ask what’s wrong, your hands softly land on both sides of his face. his mind suddenly goes blank, unsure of what you wanted. “…yes?” the clear confusion written all over his expression makes you giggle. “i can hold the world in my hands,” you beam. yuki’s lips immediately stretch into a grin, adoration evident in his dark gray eyes. “yeah? so can i.” he takes a step closer, mirroring your gesture. you wait for him to say something but he doesn’t, his gaze on you not wavering even in the slightest. ever since the curse was broken, yuki has only grown more and more secure in himself. you don’t know when it began but he just started boldly flirting with you whenever he felt like it. and just like most of the staredowns you two have had in the past, you lose this one. barely able to look at yuki, you try to move out of his hold to conceal your flustered state but his hand moves to the nape of your neck, gently pulling you closer to press his forehead against yours. your face feels warmer now and you don’t even have to look at him to know he has a stupid smirk on his lips. “stop staring,” you mumble but it only makes him laugh. “you started it.”
HATORI was lying on the couch with a book in hand when you decide to disrupt his peace, moving on top of him to wiggle your way into his embrace. as if it’s second nature to him, he lifts his arms to make room for you, acknowledging your presence with a kiss on the forehead. “whatcha readin’?” you ask. hatori’s eyes flit to the book then back to you. “i’m not sure. shigure wrote it.” his impassive tone forces a laugh out of you, the sound bringing a smile to his lips. you have his full attention now so he tosses the book onto the coffee table before snaking his arms around you, pulling your body flush against his. “hey tori?” “hm?” “would you believe me if i told you i can hold the world in my hands?” the hand running up and down your back instantly freezes. “is that a trick question?” giggling at his deadpan expression, you shake your head no. you don’t wait for him to get another word out, raising your hands to brush his bangs away from his face before cupping his cheeks. “see?” you don’t miss the way hatori sucks in a breath, clearly caught off guard by the small gesture. and yet he doesn’t even fight the urge to roll his eyes, shaking his head out of affection for you while a soft smile plays on his lips. “you and your antics.” he plants a tender kiss between your eyebrows before guiding your head onto his chest. “you love them,” you tease. he sighs in content before he replies: “i do.”
Ben: “Okay, Ardyn. Today we have a very special lesson. Today, you are going to earn the trust of a majestic creature. Doing so will increase survivability when dealing with wild beasts as we’re adventuring across Eos.”
Ardyn: “Sounds simple enough. But why at a volcano?”
Ben: “It’s where she makes her nest. Now, the important part here is to not flinch.”
Ardyn: “Flinch? Why would I-“
Ardyn: “Astrals save me….”
Ben: “You’re doing great, Ardyn! You have nothing to fear!!”
Ardyn: “Then why are you all the way over there?!? Benevolo Besithia, what in the void did you get me into?!” (AND HOW??!)
Ardyn: “I swear if I live through this, I’m just going to let the Starscourge take you!”
Ben: “Duly noted. Now don’t move. You’re intimidating her.”
Ardyn: “I’M INTIMIDATING HER?!?”
“……”
Ben: “Oh! She likes you? Fantastic!!”
Ardyn: “WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF SHE DIDN’T?!?!!?”
