This holiday season, if you know someone who likes house plants,

DON'T

get them a houseplant. DO NOT.

instead, get them a NICE, MEDIUM-LARGE, AESTHETIC, BOTTOM-DRAINING, INDOOR

POT.

that is what they want. that is what they dream of. ok? thats what will be most useful and appreciated. in fact, if you can, get them a CUTE MATCHING SET. OF POTS!!!! NOT PLANTS, POTS!!!!!!!!

they may be more excited initially about the plant. that is true. but a pot is a gift that they will go home and use to upsize one of their already beloved houseplants, and every time they look at it they will remember how much they appreciate you.

HOUSEPLANT:

- they already have so many

- needs to be watered

- takes up window space

- comes in a pot thats already too small, needs to be upsized, costing money

- can die

AESTHETIC POT

- lets them care for an existing plant they own

- they will be grateful every time they see it in their home

- does not take up window space not already occupied by a plant

- can be wrapped without dying or spilling dirt everywhere

I wish "Making Love" had never been shriveled and freeze dried into just a euphemism for sexual intercourse

As an aroace person who is mildly disgusted by the thought of being the object of someone else's sexual desire, I wish 'Making love' could also be understood as:

Cooking someone's favorite dinner, especially when you know they've had a hard day.

Reading bedtime stories aloud to each other, even as adults.

Going for long walks together, just to be in each other's presence.

Taking out the garbage for someone, even when it's not "your turn"

Mailing them a handwritten letter, with whimsical doodles in the margins.

Being vulnerable with someone, and telling them when you are sad, or hurting.

Snuggling, nonsexually, when taking a nap.

Coming up with a private joke that makes you laugh, and bewilders everyone else

Singing together, while doing chores (Yard work shanties could be a thing)

Etc., etc., etc.

In other words, All the actions that lead to a strong, loving, emotional bond with someone (literally Making Love out of friendship)... And yes, for allosexual people, that can include sexual intercourse that brings physical pleasure to all the people involved. But I wish that wasn't the only thing it meant, these days.

Thinking of the larger context of LOTR and like, the fellowship swapping old war stories and shit and Sam just says “Yeah I killed a huge spider…Shelob, I think?”

And Gandalf just blinks and is like, “You what now?”

“Yeah, killed it. Had to save Frodo”

Gandalf elects not to tell Sam that he killed the spawn of a primordial demon.
