✦ Lost in Limbo Devlog #14 | 12.02.24

And November is over! This month has been filled with paperwork, organizing receipts, and so on, which isn't very fun, but it's part of the job!

We are making great progress with everything overall; merch has been ordered and we have received proof and approved it; our voice actors are already delivering the voiced names y'all paid for during our Kickstarter campaign; and more! Let's see it in detail, shall we? :^)

Our dear Raquel has been working hard (I think I say this every devlog, but damn) on reworking the sprites for the extended demo now that the Special postcards for the Kickstarter are done! For this next batch, she'll be working on Ara and Amon, so here's a WIP of how Ara is looking so far! 💜

I think you can see how her design is already more detailed and cohesive in some areas. We'll most likely ask for feedback when Amon is ready too, to test the waters with both characters like we did with Gael and Xal :^)

The street is coming to life! This background is almost ready thanks to Astro. We'll have four new locations in the Extended Demo to help with the pacing and the introduction of our world and story to (hopefully) make it perfect. Or something close to it!

In the writing department, I've so far added 7000 words to the prologue. We have one flavor choice, two personality choices (and several personality reactions), and three "relationship choices". These basically shape your relationship with Evie in this case. For example, you'll be able to choose if you are intimate friends, are warm to each other, or if you prefer something less physical / touchy. And Evie will remember that!

And this is just so far. While River has a kind of "set" personality, I want people to be able to shape some aspects of their life.

In the writing department I should also include the documents I've provided to our VAs, and to our composer, Tomás. More on that below!

We have a proper help screen! Wohoo! 💜

Now you can enjoy Ren'py's default help screen but looking a bit nicer. This is for those who are not familiar with Ren'py's usual keybindings and stuff :^)

Nothing else on the programming side this month. I've focused on writing the script and that's going to be my main job until I can actually start programming something!

As I said before, our beloved voice actors are already working on the voiced names! In fact, Xal's VA (Francfil Pontañeles) and Pride's (Pat Langner) already recorded them! A little surprise is that we have been able to add our default MC's name, River, as a voiced name. For those of you who want to play with that name, you'll also enjoy some voiced lines!

What else—ah! We are already working with Tomás for our OST, and we have settled in 19 tracks total. Those are even more tracks than we expected! This is thanks to you all, and especially thanks to those of you who ordered more merch via Backerkit. You made those four extra tracks possible!

Our merch has been checked and so far only the pins are missing a preview and therefore our approval. We had to edit some files (beginner's mistake!) but being the first time we do this, I'd say things have been rather smoothly! We'd like to be able to start shipping this month, but it may not be possible. Which is a bummer! But well, we settled in December / January, so January it is, if nothing happens!

(Don't mind the colors being too flashy here—they will look more cohesive in game!)

OH, and the last extra bit! I've been working on the personality choices, as you all know, and Kayden has been helping me make the icons that will appear next to those choices for those who are colorblind. An extra thing to make them pop and differentiate them better! I think they are pretty self-explanatory, and if not, well—that means we have to give those icons a twist!

November has been a chaotic month for me due to the aftermath of the floods and my vacation week. The rest of the team has also had their good amount of irl stuff happening around them, but we've made it! The new year is approaching faster than I thought, as per usual, and I hope we can finish 2024 on a good note!

Hello! I just found out about your game yesterday (I haven't tried the demo yet). Sorry to bother you, but I'm kind of confused about the ages of LIs. Since they are gods, are they kind like a thousand/century years old? Or are the ages written in each LI's profile their true age, or do they just represent their appearance ages?

Please ignore this if this is kind of confusing/bothering. Thank you 🙂.

Not a bother at all! You are not the only one who has wondered about this, and the characters will talk about this in game. I also hope you enjoy the demo if you decide to play it!

Short answer is: they're very old if we think about time and age like we know it.

The age in their profiles represent their appearances and how they perceive themselves :^)

zoro being canonically jealous across the board (anime manga and live action) is probably one of if not the funniest running bits because it’s SUCH an irrational feeling for zoro to have. no one is doubting how strong he is. no one is doubting his position as first mate / how close he is to luffy / their weird borderline telepathic relationship. and if he was paying attention, he’d notice luffy always says hi to him first always looks to him first blushes at the sight of him but he’s in the corner FUMING bc usopp nominated himself to be luffy’s cornerman during the foxy pirate arc. that luffy said sanji was worth 1000 men. that sanji dared to suggest he knew what luffy needed. giving the side eye whenever luffy talks about how strong other guys are. and of course oda just keeps introducing more and more luffy stans (and ppl for luffy to compliment) giving zoro the WORST tummy ache

Me outwardly on social media: I support fans’ rights to ship whoever they want. Shipping is about fostering imaginations and having fun. When it comes to fictional characters, there’s no such thing as a “wrong” ship.

If Limbo had some kind of formal dance that everyone goes to, would the LIs ask the MC to go or would any of them just assume MC knows they're going together and makes a mess of it on the night because MC isn't prepared?

✦ The LIs and a formal dance in Limbo!

Limbo has a formal dance! It's hosted every year by the Grand Houses to celebrate the current Master's mandate. Not everyone goes, but you'll see in game :^}

✦ Amon: Indeed, assumes the MC knows they're going with him and freaks out when he finds out they haven't bought any new, shiny, expensive clothes. Probably would wake up the whole palace so someone thinks of a solution—and pays everyone generously for bothering their rest.

✦ Raeya: Hates, hates, HATES, the annual ball, but she has to attend. She hopes and prays something comes up and she's excused, but it has never happened so far lol. She wouldn't ask the MC because in her eyes it's tedious and a waste of time—it's exhausting and she doesn't want the MC to have to go through that. If the MC asks, though...she at least will have a good reason to attend.

✦ Gael: Oh, he's one of the hosts! And the ball is in his honor! He would of course ask the MC to be his partner during the whole celebration and as the Master he gets the first dance to inaugurate the dance floor, and he obviously would choose the MC as his dance partner :^} He'd be very nervous but absolutely elated!

✦ Envy: Well. They can't attend, so...Would suggest the MC goes with their siblings to enjoy the experience. Loved attending when they were invited.

✦ Ara: Would ask the MC as soon as the invitations arrive! She usually designs and makes her own clothes with Gael's help for every ball, so she'd ask the MC if they want to wear matching clothes. She also supervises the catering for the ball so she'd surely sneak some of the MC's favorites in the menu.

✦ Xal: Usually hates attending but sees this as an opportunity to prove himself to the MC. He'd be practicing in front of the mirror how to properly ask the MC to attend as, well, he has never brought a partner to the ball before. Probably would ask Gael to teach him how to dance for the occasion, too.

✦ Father Pride: He attends, but he has a special spot on a balcony where he oversees the whole thing. People pay their respects to him, but he does not participate in mundane things like eating, socializing and dancing. He wouldn't ask the MC to join him because it's boring and he wants them to experience the ball—but would love to dance with them on their little balcony, away from everyone.

✦ Lázaro: Would love to go if they actually could! Hard to when they're on a different realm of existence fkdkfkkgg

✦ Cécile: Has to fulfill his duty as Gael's bodyguard, so he keeps to the shadows as per usual to do it and takes it very seriously. Gael always insists on him taking it easy for a night and enjoying the ball, so he may do it if the MC and the Master insist enough. Would actually have a lovely time and would feel normal for a night.
