I need to preface this by saying I often stumble through drawing wings so I had a bit of a harder time describing how I draw them. As well as the fact that there isnt really any wrong way to draw wings given how much variation you can given them in fantasy. Still though I hope I can offer some tips

Biggest tip is to get the arm down. pretty much any flying animal has this arm of sorts. I find laying down the shape of it really helps shape the rest of the wing. I added the most basic 3 lines I use in the step by step. (Sometimes I use my own hand to imagine where the "fingers" of the wing go, cause you cant always find that just right reference with birds or bats. Imagine if you taped long straws to your fingers then draped a blanket across your shoulders.)

2nd tip is with folded wings. Often if your characters wings are folded in they arent the focus of the piece, so dont put too much detail in those folded wings. Draw em and leave em. Its super easy to wanna put detail everywhere but sometimes less is better. But of course you can always add detail and my biggest tip if you wanna add detail is remember the folds. a closed wing will often have a scrunched up look.

And of course my final tip is reference and practice. Reference wise id suggest birds, bats, and pterosaurs (as much as you can from an extinct creature lol) There is also plenty of dragon wing tutorials out there that get more specific.

Your also free to trace over my work for practice as long as its not posted publicly, tho I highly recommend not just doing that. Its important to experiment and find your own style n' method. its also a bit better to understand what your drawing more than just knowing muscle memory movements (ex. understanding how the arm of a wing works can help you to need less references as youd know how to postion the webbing, folds, fingers, etc) Tracing wise your most helpful resource is bats.

confession time, I seriously thought snowfall and lynx were exes when reading the book at first. like they had a highschool romance that broke off vibes 💀 The whole school rivals thing flew over my head

Anyways I love opal, shes so fun. Might be bias cause I love a good silly spirit that helps the main character.

mom said it was my turn with the Carnelian lives au

I know everyone and their mother makes these but honestly Carnelian and umber should have had 10x more screentime (biased lmao)

Anyway in my au Carnelian does die but skywing gods deem her worthy of rebirth due to her fighting spirit. She has served the skywing tribe all her life and doesnt deserve to have it end via failed assasination attempt

After being left in the mourning cave she awakens with odd new features including feathered ears and golden scales. every wound from the dragoncactus is now covered in a golden shell. Scars remain to remind her of her strength and the gold is representative of fire. Her wing webbing having been burned is now also glittering gold, some refer to it as looking like golden silk tightly weaved together. The feathered ears are more of mystery but does spark many religious theories (I really just wanted to give her an owl like head 💀)

Of course her return startles many and causes rise of more animus speculation but Queen Ruby is happy to have her back. I believe Carnelian would remain a the academy for a few years but only to cram in all her classes then return to the skywing kindom. She wouldnt really stick around to make friends but she wouldnt look down on her winglet and would act a bit friendlier towards them.

In the future she becomes a general, though with the lack of war she found herself participating in more community activities and service. This helps her become a highly reguarded general, loved by many. She'll never settle down and have dragonets but the community will reguard her as a motherly figure. Old and wise she becomes.

overall this au is, again, giving a character I like a break lmao. but this also experiments with the kinda "god" like figures and beliefs briefly mentioned in the books (even tho skywings are kinda more reincarnation baised) idk any way is interesting to me

Sleepover

Almost through my re read of arc 2 and my consensus is that Moon and kinkajou need more bff time

I wanna see them have the teenage dream with sleepovers, friendship jewlery, squeeling over adorable plushies, and getting in trouble. Enough getting caught up in drama especially with ancient world destroying dragons

Im starting at the drawing tablet in my cart rn regretting that ive been just using my acer as both. (also regretting all the little treats i got myself) Im way too used to touch screen which means my options are very limited rn

"Mammoth mammoth look!"

The tiny icewing plopped the large ball of snow ontop of the other. "I made a snow dragon!"

Mammoth gave a deep chuckled "That's a very nice looking snow dragon."

"What...what's that?"

Mammoth turned to the other dragonet who pointed out into the distance.

The approaching dragon was larger and seemed to have no wings.

"Go back to the village."

Mammoth spoke quickly as he stood up. The dragonets nodded and quickly scurried away with the exciting news of someone new.

Mammoth walked up to the dragon. His stern gaze fell very quickly seeing the condition this dragon was in.

Their sides were fresh with blood, they had scars and bruises all along their scales, each paw was red with dried blood and it looked as if they had no talons.

The dragon looked up. She squinted at mammoth. Her jaw quivered open and all that came out was "Cold.." her legs shook and threatened to give out. She barely held her head up.

Mammoth furrowed his eyebrows and quickly dropped low nudging his head under her chest. She panicked and weakly flailed trying to push mammoth away.

"I'm trying to help you." Mammoth growled as he pushed back.

She seemed to accept defeat and pulled herself onto his back.

Mammoth glanced back as he opened his wings. The dragoness had curled into his mane and passed out. Poor thing. Mammoth frowned and quickly took off toward his cave.

Gaeas eyes fluttered open. She was warm...and her wounds didn't sting anymore. She gently lifted her head. Her vision was blurred as she had her glasses no more.

"Good evening dear."

Gaea jumped and turned finally noticing why she was so warm. A large dragon sat working on some necklace looking thing next to her. His wing was draped around her back....her wingless back. Gaea could feel tears prick her eyes as the memories flooded back.

"How are you feel- Woah uh.."

Mammoth was caught off guard as Gaea began to weep into his shoulder.

"I...I'm sorry..im sorry.." she croaked.

"What for hun? You've done nothing." Mammoth dropped the beads and rested a talon on her arm.

"I... I dont know." Gaea frowned finally looking at him.

"Well let's start off..I'm mammoth." He introduced himself trying to figure out what this dragoness was doing all the way out here.

"Gaea." She spoke as mammoths wing gently wiped her cheek.

"You look pretty rough Gaea what might I asked happened?"

"I was accused to be a thief. I...I I'm not I swear! They...they thought I stole from the queen. They ripped me away from my sister's and then..." Gaea looked at her talons and felt tears once more "Then they ripped off my wings and took my talons. They grabbed me and dropped me in the mountains. Broke my glasses doing so. I wandered and somehow I ended up in the icewing kingdom. Ev...everything is a blur all I remember is being cold and in pain. Just pain." Gaea gritted her teeth as she felt the sting of her wounds.

Mammoth frowned "That's horrid! What proof did they have?"

Gaea frowned "None nothing but lies spewed from the mouth of the young queen. She never liked me she doesnt like anyone accept her treasure. "

"Even if you did your punishment seems very extreme.." mammoth gritted his teeth as his lips curled back in a snarl "that's just like those royals all they care about is their treasure."

Gaea hung her head "I just wanna see my sisters they're still young and in their big wing! Or....was." she sighed looking at her back again.

Mammoth lay in thought for a moment. "You still are you know." Gaea nodded with a long tired blink. "Well we'll get you all set up here and healed. I can fix you a pair of glasses as well."

Gaea looked up "Really?"

Mammoth nodded "for a price though."

Gaea frowned "I'm sorry I dont have any treasure or anything to trade."

"A smile would work for me." Mammoth smirked.

Gaea was taken back but chuckled "fine, like this." She gave a sarcastic grin. Mammoth laughed "I'd prefer a real one but itll work."

Gaea laughed and gave a tired smile.

"That's better, now you rest up." Mammoth squeezed his wing tighter around Gaea.

Gaea gently laid her head down and mammoth could faintly hear her mumble a "thank you.."

He hummed and went back to his necklace
