People still giving Lloyd trouble for freeing the snakes in the year 2025 like it was singlehandedly the worst thing ever to happen to Ninjago. Like Frak and Spitz are standing right there.
You ever think how if the Serpentine were never freed, these two would have eventually starved to death, lived miserable lives, may not have even been born, or, anyway, they wouldn't be here today.
Yeah, I know Lloyd freeing the snakes attracted a lot of other dangers and led to Harumi becoming the Quiet One and resurrecting Garmadon, but we learned in Season 4, ten whole years ago, that the snakes were manipulated by Chen, and locking away a whole race to slowly starve to death is a pretty messed up thing to do in the first place.
Freeing the Serpentine had some unfortunate consequences, but it was absolutely necessary. Pythor was the only real evil, the rest of them just wanted to live their lives and raise their families. Frak and Spitz are now part of the ninja's family, and humans and snakes live in peace just like it was always meant to be.
You have to look at the bigger picture.
Have Jack and Wuya ever helped each other with their makeup? Or is each of them just doing their own makeup at the mirror together as close as they'll get to that?
I think they're both too particular about their make up to trust the other to help, but they give each other advice from time to time. It's their favorite bonding time besides plotting how to take over the world
Dashi: Chase, keep an eye on Guan today. He’s going to say something to the wrong person and get punched.
Chase: Sure, I’d love to see Guan getting punched.
Dojo: Try again.
Chase, sighing: I will try to stop Guan from getting punched.
We didn't get many Lloyd and Nya moments this season, but in the few seconds of screentime they shared the writers made sure to remind us that these two are absolute besties.
Hey, very specific question, but does anyone know if Omi is vegetarian or not? I don't remember him eating meat in the show and I need it for a fanfiction
I thought a lot lately what a Wicked x Xiaolin Showdown crossover would actually look like. If Chase is Elphaba, I imagine he'd have dragon features, maybe green dragon scales, so the green elixir Elphaba's Mom drank would be the Lao Mang Lone soup. Maybe he's a human-dragon hybrid, and he faces discrimination like all the other talking animals of Oz, then during Defying Gravity he finally embraces his full dragon form.
And that would make him the Wicked Dragon of the West.
Wait.
Anyways, Dashi would obviously be Fiyero, as a platonic common friend to both Chase and Guan, who's sort of stuck in the middle. Their personalities simply match too well.
Dojo would be Doctor Dillamond. When he gets taken away, Dashi drops his careless act and becomes an advocate for mystical creatures, trying to keep Chase safe in the process.
The Wizard of Oz is Jack, a young inventor who crash landed his jet into Oz, or his heli-pack was carried away by the wind, and everyone in Oz was so impressed with his mechanical creations they thought he had mad power. But Hanibal is really the master evil mind who secretly controls Jack.
Omi is the Cowardly Lion, except he's the Fierce Little Lion. You know, the Lion's whole deal was that he was big and fierce-looking but really a scaredy cat, so I thought it would be fun for Omi to be the exact opposite.
Kimiko is Dorothy and she really just wants to go back to Tokyo and her dad. In the original Wizard of Oz book Dorothy was much tougher than the movie and more resourceful, so I think it fits.
Clay can be the Scarecrow. I want him to be his own character because I really liked him in the book. He was the voice of reason amongst his friends. Also, yeah, he comes from a farm. Dashi can just come back as a ghost during the final act, I suppose.
And then there's Raimundo as the Tinman. We all know he's got a big heart under the cool exterior.
That leaves Nessarose, and just hear me out, trust me on this one. Nessa is Katnapee. She was born disabled and both her and Chase were abandoned by their parents for their "deformities" (they can be different parents, they don't have to be related by blood) and left on the Xiaolin Temple's doorstep where they were more or less raised by Master Fung. Katnapee never gave a hoot about being in a wheelchair, and that thing can really gather speed, but she had always been jealous of Chase's animal features because she always wanted to be a cat, and not just wear a costume.
Master Fung doesn't necessarily have a favorite, he's equally distant to both of them, but he asked Chase to keep her out of trouble when they went to school because of Katnapee's mischievous tendencies.
When Chase tapped into his powers, he was able to turn her into a real panther. She still has her wheels like those for disabled cats or dogs, but she's having the time of her life.
No need for a romantic interest. Katnapee absolutely does not need a reason to go mad with power. Chase is half proud half terrified of the monster he's created, but he's too busy fighting the government with Dashi.
So anyway, this all sounds fun. I don't know if I'll ever be able to write a full fic around these concepts, but at least now I won't forget them.
Oh, also Wuya is Madame Morrible. This is an easy one.
I can’t say I’m surprised. From being destined to fight him at such a young age to being forced to banish him to a cursed realm, only to have him resurrected in his worst, evilest form, most of Lloyd’s traumas are related to his father. He even almost beat Lloyd to death, declaring he has no son, attempted to kill his friends in a very gruesome way, and finally, replaced him with a potted plant. That’s messed up on so many levels.
But to tell you the truth, Mao Mao is the one who inspired me to make this poll. Shin Mao favored his older daughters and neglected his son all his life to the point he never even got his name or age right, but Mao Mao still looked up to him, giving him unconditional love and unquestioned respect. I think the last part is what truly makes it tragic. Shin Mao doesn’t treat Mao Mao half as badly as Garmadon treated Lloyd and is described as passive-aggressive, rather than downright abusive. Yet it amazes me how many episodes focus on the long-lasting psychological effects that Shin’s treatment had on Mao. Mao Mao’s self-esteem is extremely fragile and inconsistent to the point where he’s either egotistical or self-depreciative with almost nothing in between, and there are a lot of suppressed fears, insecurities, emotions, and desires that constantly bubble up and affect Mao and everyone else around him.
Despite all this, he still tries to be the best father figure for his little apprentice, encouraging her dream and reassuring her of her own fears and insecurities.
While Lloyd’s past with his dad is the most scarring, he rarely shows those scars, unlike Mao whose entire personality and day-to-day struggles are based on it. Lloyd and his friends are often shown processing their traumas in their different ways (usually in the first episode of the season), but after a while, we return to the status quo and there are very few notable changes in the ninja’s personalities. Like, let’s wrap this up quickly, guys, there’s a new villain in town! This, to be fair, makes sense given the overarching story of Ninjago whereas Mao Mao’s more slice-of-life, over-the-top cartoon hijinks style allows for more moments in which the characters can breathe, get a good look at themselves, and address their personal issues. Mao Mao even goes to a therapist every Thursday, which is something we’ve all agreed for years that Lloyd desperately needs.
Monkie Kid is somewhere in between, having both a lot of lore, but also some more laid-back episodes, especially in the first seasons. Since unlike Lloyd and Mao, Red Son isn’t the main character, his relationship with the Demon Bull King doesn’t get as much spotlight, but it’s still pretty tragic when you think about it. Red Son waited for centuries after his father was imprisoned under a mountain, and the first thing the Bull King does after he returns is treat him like a henchman rather than a son. They do get noticeably better after a while though.
Anyway, thank you to everyone who voted!
I didn't expect so many people to be interested so I decided to turn this into a full Daddy Issues tournament. Feel free to check it out if you'd like.
I like how it is actually canon that Chase enjoys chocolate milk
Chase, setting down a mug: Here.
Omi, suspicious: What is this? Poison? Something to get me to spill my secrets?
Chase, sitting down: It's hot chocolate.
Omi:
Omi: What is hot chocolate?
