Even if some current TV writers like to operate by these standards (for artistic rather than narrative reasons), I don’t think the SPN writers are among them (mainly because I think it never occured to them, not because I think they’re above it).

Strawman argumentation like this is what made me side-eye the Johnlockers of the BBC Sherlock fandom. But even withouth grasping at straws like wallpaper they still have way more evidence to point to than the Destielers.

Devil's Advocate/misanthrop anon: has anyone ever wondered if J2 are just playing the speculation on their relationship for the ratings? It's possible (though unlikely. You can't fake the looks they give each other.)

That’s something that het stans and shippers of that other ship bring up all the time. It’s more than unlikely- it’s ludicrous. The tin hats are a very tiny part of the fandom. There are more J2 shippers that don’t truly believe they’re in a relationship but they still aren’t a big enough group to effect ratings. Supernatural has had fairly steady ratings for awhile now. Not high ratings, mind you, but steady. There are some fluctuations but they have nothing to do with the actors’ real lives. I don’t think their relationship has any influence on that. Now if Jensen and Jared only played up their relationship at cons or on set (the way Jensen doors with other actors on the show), I might think this is a valid point. But the fact that they’re together all the time, that they moved to be close to each other, that they choose to go on vacation together and spend holidays together, makes people who say that it’s for PR or ratings look ridiculous. That would be a pretty elaborate scheme with absolutely no real payoff for the show. –Admin N

How long does a Google search take, honestly? S1 has the best rating, S2 and 4 is tied at second. S9 holds the fourth spot (for whatever reason), and S3 is 5th. S10 has the lowest overall rating. 

Just to put it into perspective- Season 1 averaged 4.52 million viewers Season 10 averaged 2.02 million viewers

No wonder they seem kind of offended by the fan’s casual dismissal of the first seasons. 

There could very well be a spillover effect from last week, ratings-wise. I hope the hype reflects the reality, and that the brother relationship will be front and center and the angel (who will at least be represented with a phone call) not disturb the dynamic between the brothers, so much as to alter the impact of their relationship for the sake of pandering. But since this episode is written by Robbie Thompson, I expect any profound scene between the brothers to be cheapened and undermined by Destiel fan service. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I am convinced it’s because of the brother articles and the brother episode tomorrow . He’s scrambling to stay relevant . Especially after his centric episode last week flopped , he doesn’t want the network honchos to ax him .

Yes, and don’t forget the Con over the weekend. So much J2 and not enough of him. AND if the ratings for tomorrow’s episode KILL, it will be even worse for him.

This is a funny anecdote, but it is also Norwegian mentality in a nutshell. Every time a report goes out that a transport strike (or something similar) is upcoming, and certain goods (usually specified by the media) may not be readily available, people go nuts and buy entire stocks whether it be butter, paper, bread, whatever. I don’t know whether to find it amusing or pathetic. It is a fascinating sociological issue for sure.

ok so the butter crisis (aka the most embarrassing moment in norwegian history) was caused by this “low carb, high fat” fad diet that was really big in 2011 and idk the details on how it worked but people ate a lot of butter, and towards the end of the year people were like “oh shit we’re gonna run out of butter” which basically caused everyone to panic and buy all the butter from every store and so we actually did run out. since this happened around christmas people were especially freaking out since we use a lot of butter in our christmas recipes and we tried getting our neighbour countires to give us some butter but most of them refused bc putting up a temporary butter market in norway would obviously not be very beneficial but luckily in the end denmark gave in and let us have some (although a lot of people didn’t wanna buy that bc apparently danish butter isn’t good enough for us??? idek the whole situation was ridiculous)

imo the best part of it was how hecking proud people who managed to get their hands on some butter were like they would change their facebook profile pics to them posing with butter the whole thing was just wild
