pretty much all anti-zoo sentiment is based on a gut reaction and nothing else. animals do not have concepts like “prisons.” animals desire to be well-fed, hydrated, healthy, safe and enriched, and this is what good zoos provide for them. animals living in well-managed zoo habitats have a higher quality of life than their wild counterparts, free of predation, starvation, exposure and parasites, and have a much higher chance of survival when they get sick. and that’s what animals desire. they’re not sitting around thinking, “well this is good and all, but i’d rather trade my health for a nebulous concept like freedom. i want to go die of mange in the wilderness.”

good zoos are also more ethical by FAR than placing exotics like wildcats or highly intelligent birds in private keepers’ homes, but strangely a lot of folks who hate zoos have no qualms with that.

Those who know me well know my views. I was ALREADY on the sign of porn. (Yeah, a lot of it sucks or is problematic. But then, 90% of EVERYTHING...)

Note this is an unironic political statement, because the resurgent war on porn has been and will continue to be at the front lines of the free speech battle, and it's only going to ramp up both with the techlash and the current fascist administration in the US.

This is true; it's another variation of all the other arguments that something is bad without actually explaining WHY.

Disgust has absolutely no ethical weight. If you are basing your ethical positions on the emotion of disgust you should stop, it is entirely unjustified and leads to a huge amount of harm.
