If you are panicking because you think you’ve missed Imbolc, it’s ok. While the 1st of February is the traditional date, the astrological date is always when the sun reaches 15° in the sign of Aquarius. This year, the astrological date is the 4th of February. So take a breath, and do what you can when you can. You haven’t missed anything.

Edited to add:

The other major Sabbats fall astrologically as such:

Beltane: Sun at 15° Taurus

Lughnasadh: Sun at 15° Leo

Samhain: Sun at 15° Scorpio

The minor Sabbats fall astrologically as such:

Winter Solstice: Sun at 0° Capricorn

Spring Equinox: Sun at 0° Aries

Summer Solstice: Sun at 0° Cancer

Autumn Equinox: Sun at 0° Libra

Past Wounds Spread

A: The thing that still hurts you

B: Advice

Step by Step

shuffle and draw as you usually do

the first card is about your wound. it's something that still hurts you to this day, either consciously or subconsciously. it can have a great impact on your current life or a smaller one, however, aspects of this still linger and influence you.

the second card is a suggestion. something that may help you work through it or slowly come to terms with it. it can be a piece of advice or a thought to remind yourself of, a message about it, or a piece of general advice on how to deal with the influence of this old wound.

personally, I tend to go by suit. with a cup card, my old wound would be related to emotions or relationships, with a sword card, it may have been an argument, my thoughts, someone else's thoughts/opinions, criticism, or problems that left a mark on me.

Example Reading

A: Four of Pentacles

B: Star

Depending on how you usually read the cards, this can have multiple interpretations (read: more than just these two I wrote out here)

Possibility 1)

The way I personally read, I'd say this is about someone who had to be very careful with money in the past, someone who had very little and needed to hold onto their resources tightly all the time. It may prompt them to stick with this behavior, even if their situation might have changed by now. To me, the star signals letting go of this, trusting a bit more that times changed and that they don't need to hold on so tightly anymore, that they can give themselves a nice little thing once in a while.

Possibility 2)

Another way would be to say that the first card is about someone clingy, someone who is afraid to give room to people or things because they might leave then. someone who is afraid to lose something

and with the star there, the message wouldn't change much from the previous one, but perhaps, the focus would be more on "trust it will be alright" because the star is always a positive omen and a signal that hope and faith are needed to overcome something.

ward checkup checklist

if you have an astral or physical space that is warded, you’ll probably have many layers of wards or at least a few strong wards, but regardless of the number of wards you have it’s always prudent to do regular checkups.

image

do note that each of your wards will have a different composition and function so these checkups probably won’t apply to every ward, so based on the type of ward you will have to learn to adjust your checkup accordingly.

leaks and weak spots. this is quite universal for a lot of wards out there, especially for large wards or wards that involve more complicated shapes or that cover spaces that are filled with corners and objects. certain parts of the ward may be less concentrated than others or may receive less attention when being made, which makes them tend to become more vulnerable faster. make sure that the energy distribution is consistent when making or repairing wards.

stiffness or rigidity. sometimes wards can harden or become rigid in certain areas, which makes them more vulnerable to impact from attacks as they are more likely to break or shatter. there is a difference between rigid wards and sturdy wards, wards don’t necessarily have to be completely unmovable and inflexible to be sturdy and durable. keep energy flowing through wards until it breaks down the rigidity and keeps the wards more malleable.

decrease in concentration. sometimes wards can lose their energy when not in use, especially wards that are made to only activate when provoked. these can lose essentially the body and what powers the ward and make the ward less effective when in use. check up on these wards frequently and make sure that they are still functioning optimally.

clumps and clogs. the energy in wards can gather and clump up or cause a clog sometimes, especially in wards that involve moving energy. this can pose a problem as clumping often leads to well, blockages and decreased flow which can just slow the flow of the ward and stop it from doing what it was meant to do, you know? find clumps or clogs and work energy through it until it spreads out and the energy is flowing like it’s supposed to.

energy reactivity and selectivity. for wards that are meant to filter stuff (e.g. anti-glamour ward) or wards that only react when a certain set of conditions are met (e.g. offence ward that sucks intruders’ energy), they can get less reactive or less selective over time without use. check these wards frequently and test them to ensure that they still work optimally.

energy contamination. for wards that are used a lot and involves a lot of passing through, or wards that are for cleansing or absorption, these can get contaminated very easily. cleanse these regularly or reset them to ensure maximum function.

Web Water: Magical Home Alert

Web Water: Magical Home Alert

I channeled this from my spider spirit Ester when I moved into a new home and had some... hexing concerns. I needed a way for me to KNOW if I need to refresh wards, etc. Well, luckily my house is old so there were PLENTY of cobwebs to use and what better to use as a trip wire than unbreakable spider silk!

Use: warding, protection

Channeled from: Lamiya, Ester

Components:

Cobwebs

Dead Spiders (optional, adds strength)

Saltwater

Bottle

Sigil Powder (optional)

Collect cobwebs and dead spiders from around the house. If they are super dusty, put them in a ziploc bag or tupperware with some water and soap. Shake and then pour the water out.

Put webs in bottle with salt water for 3 days in the sun, shaking every few hours.

Take out big web chunks, water should have traces of web in them. Spider bits can be added now or put around the property.

Pray over the water and ask the spiders to use their webs to alert you to any trespasses via agreed upon alert such as spiders coming from the ceiling. Ask the spider spirits to trap and eat the bad energy they find.

Pour around the edge of the property and anoint the members of the household you want to be included in the ward.  Should see pink/purple webs outside the house* *This is UPG. After I did this the first time I noticed lots of webs around the yard that turned pink in the sunlight.

WHEN IS IT?

is typically held on February 1st through until sundown of February 2nd

WHAT DOES IT

SYMBOLIZE?

symbolizes the half way point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox

WHAT IS IT?

is a Celtic/Gaelic holiday

is another Celtic fire festival

hearth fires are often re-lit, especially using the Yule greenery, as keeping this too long invites the fae folk to stay in the house beyond their welcome.

WHO TO HONOUR

Imbolc celebrations took place in honour of the goddess Brigid! This goddess was considered one of the most powerful Celtic gods.

ABOUT BRIGID

🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷

REPRESENTS:

spring

fertility

fire

creativity

poetry

healing

crafting

and so much more!

She is the daughter of Dagda, one of the oldest Celtic gods In some representations.

Brigid in some stories has two sisters both also named Brigid, it’s thought among many that this is meant to represent the goddess in different forms or points in life (personally I love this aspect of them because not many gods actually do age thought the stories and legends. They’re are a few others but I just think it’s cool little thing to note)

it was often found that Brigid’s crosses were made from wheat stalks at this time of year and exchanged and hung in the home to protect from fire damage.

🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷🌼🌷

While many people still honour Brigid today, if working with dietys isn’t your thing, many more modern celebrations can include the following:

⭐️🌸⭐️🌸⭐️🌸⭐️🌸⭐️🌸⭐️🌸

SOME FUN WAYS

TO CELEBRATE

🌸⭐️🌸⭐️🌸⭐️🌸⭐️🌸⭐️🌸⭐️

having a fire this could be as nice as having a bonfire or as simple as leaving a tea light in a bowl outside for them!

for Brigid, you could write intentions on paper and throw them into the fire,

a simple meditation with a candle would be amazing for this day!

You could even make making Brigid a crosses out of pipe cleaners or paper if you have little ones you want to include in the festivities.

Maybe burn some candles in the imbolc colours which are white, pink, red, yellow, green, brown.

if you wanted to indulge in some classic imbolc type food typically it would be dairy products, spicy food or lamb! And Something that would’ve been stored over the winter, smoked meats, dried fruit and nuts!

Often times Candles are placed in windows to welcome the spring and spring cleaning and household purification rituals are common.

this is really just a quick breakdown of this witchy holiday and a few suggestions! Your celebration doesn’t have to be grand or spectacular either I’ve had imbolc where all I’ve done was change the altar cloth to a flowered one! I’ve also had imbolc a filled with ritual and magic! It’s all up to you how to celebrate the day, it’s about welcoming in the spring energy! Releasing that which serves you no more! Even spring cleaning can be associated with imbolc!

If you’d like to check out more imbolc correspondences you can do so by clicking HERE

Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns! Merry meet - B

🌿𝐒𝐌𝐎𝐊𝐄 𝐂𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆. “Smudge” sticks can be made of many different herbs. I recommend using white sage sticks. Light it and wave it gently in the air, encouraging the smoke to spill over the crystals. This action is smoke cleansing, not to be confused with smudging.

🌿𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐄. Like with smoke cleansing, the smoke created from lighting the incense is wonderful depending on the scent and infusion of the sticks to spill over crystals. For incense I can recommend frankincense and myrrh, or any cleansing mixes.

🌿𝐒𝐀𝐋𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑. You can use salt water from the ocean or simply put salt in a bowl of water. Hold your crystals so that they are immersed in the water. It’ll cleanse the energy from the stones. Be sure to clean your crystals using clean water afterwards. Some crystals can not be placed in water because they are too soft, or brittle. Water can cause some stones to fracture and break, or even dissolve! Be sure to look up your crystal and what cleansing is best for it.

🌿𝐌𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍. Sit comfortably in a quiet room or a place of your choosing. Hold your crystals in your hand and close your eyes, allowing the silence and serenity to envelope you. Visualise your crystals in front of you. Picture a wave washing all the negative energy trapped inside the crystals away. Do this until you intuitively feel that they have been cleansed.

🌿𝐌𝐎𝐎𝐍𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓. This is the easiest method of cleansing, and safe for all crystals. Also, The full moon can act as a reminder for you that your crystals need cleansing. Simply wait for the full moon and place your crystals outside so that they are surrounded by the moon’s gentle energy. If you don’t have an outdoor area that is safe for your crystals to be placed, a windowsill will work too. It does not matter if your window does not face the moon. The moon’s energy will still be present. Then bring them back inside in the morning.
