My cousin is noncompliant diabetic (type one,) but not by choice.

So, she's six. Her parents do not listen to her doctors and will not follow her diet plan. She stays part-time with another one of my cousins and he does his best to follow her diet and make sure her needs are met, but he doesn't have her at all times. There have been a lot of times where she gets dropped off at his house only for him to pretty much immediately need to take her to the ER because she's in ketoacidosis or her blood sugar is extremely off. There was one time where things got so bad she was in the PICU on a ventilator because her lungs stopped working, it was a miracle she survived and he's worried that it will be too late if nothing changes.

I don't know. I'm just worried about her and I'm venting about it. There's no way to help her without trying to go to CPS, but there's no family in the immediate area if she gets removed from the house who can take her and if they don't take her, her parents might retaliate and move somewhere else or stop letting her stay at my cousin's and then she's in even more danger. I wish I knew what to do. She deserves better than this

The r slur is a nasty, nasty word and I do not understand how so many otherwise progressive people hurl it around like confetti. A lot of yall have zero solidarity with those who are intellectually disabled. You are not ""reclaiming"" it when you use it to insult someone. Be real, you just wanna use it cuz it gives you a little surge of catharsis whenever you are Big Mad. Fuck you.

Needs to be said, probably controversial, but "bad" people deserve support for their mental health issues as well. "Bad" people should not be dehumanized and berated for their mental health issues. I dont care what they've done

give love to people with traumatic brain injury, acquired brain injury, stroke, neurological condition, worsening mental health, trauma, PTSD and all other brain based conditions that make you feel conflicted about your identity. About whether or not you’re the ‘same person’ you were before your injury or illness. People constant evolve and change but can be more difficult when changes more sudden, pronounced, and noticed by others. I hope you are doing well and are able to find some peace, support and love.

i think some people forget intellectually disabled people in conversations about disability.

i dont feel included in a lot of conversations because people prioritize how they sound over accessibility. they use words i just can't understand to explain concepts. people find it more important to "sound like an intellectual" than to take a step back and realize a lot of people wont actually understand this.

i want to be included in conversations about activism and justice, but no one makes it accessible. when i ask questions, its taken as "oh my gosh do you really not know what that is!! youre a bad activist/advocate/etc.".

i have tried doing my own research, but thats not accessible to me either. its the same issue. i cant understand what im reading, nothing makes sense. its a cycle im trapped in until someone eventually explains. but by then, im not updated and informed like id like to be.

Hi there! Can you give any advice on how to write someone becoming disabled through a traumatic injury? The Transition phase particularly, the emotional aspect and things to consider and pay attention to? I've been disabled since birth so my journey is completely different to the one my character will have. And while I went through transition phases too they were never going from being abled to disabled but from my condition worsening over the years. I've done research but I figured maybe you have a mod who'd be willing to share some thoughts on this? Thanks!
