Are You A Gold Star Lesbian? (Just In Case You Don't Know What It Means, A Gold Star Lesbian Is A Lesbian

Are you a Gold Star lesbian? (Just in case you don't know what it means, a Gold Star lesbian is a lesbian that has never had the sex with a guy and would never have any intentions of ever doing so)

No. Why do you ask?

Margaret Atwood’s poetry inspired me to write volumes of angstful poetry (fear not, I will not share it) If I could recommend one of her poems, @entirelytookeen, it is this one:

Have you tried Margaret Atwood's poetry?

I have not! I am a Philistine who only appreciates poetry by like… five people. I’m trying to widen my horizons, but it’s slow going.

Egads!

I just realized that @entirelytookeen is no longer on tumblr! This makes me sad - I really regret not saving some of their posts. By the way, I’m sad at me, not @entirelytookeen. I have no idea why they left tumblr and I’m actually thinking that if they left, I probably should too ... regardless, a belated thank you to them for their lovely posts. Hope you are well and if anyone knows where they have gone, please let me know. Thanks! xoxo

Day sixty-five (65/100)

of @the-wip-project‘s #100daysofwriting challenge

Q65: What else counts as writing for you?

A65: Art, especially sketching story locations, research in particular maps and historical events during the period the story is set in. Or, in terms of my clexa wip, verifying canon events versus where my plots diverge from it.

However, I think it is important to mention that I have had to set boundaries for myself around how much time I spend on research, e.g., how much research do I actually need in order to write the story versus how much information am I taking in because I am curious.

I agree with all of the above. There is also a fantastic app for ao3 for Android. If you would like an invite, I also have two available!

ARCHIVE YOUR FIC ON AO3 FOR ETERNAL GLORY

It physically pains me to see people post awesome fanfiction to tumblr and nowhere else. Tumblr moves so fast! By tomorrow people who didn’t look in a tag at the right moment won’t know it existed. By next week even people who did read it won’t be able to find it back to reread. Finding anything on tumblr via search function is practically a fluke. For all intents and purposes, your hard work has a halflife of about a week at most.

PUT YOUR WORK ON AO3 WHERE IT CAN LIVE ETERNALLY, I BEG YOU

People who come into that fandom in a month, a year, even a decade will be able to find your work!

People can bookmark it!

People can rec it to others!

People can reread it into infinity! (and people like me can do that and comment every time!)

You can get comments & kudos until the endtimes because people will keep finding your work! (seriously I still sometimes get new people finding and loving my work from ~2013)

And best of all, people can SUBSCRIBE to your work so they will get email about new chapters and stories! (I’m seeing people do manual ‘Tag you in the next chapter’ lists and seriously, physical pain, this wheel has already been invented and it is rolling beautifully)

PLEASE LET ME BOOKMARK YOUR FIC I BEG YOU

“But I need an invite for AO3!”

Yes, and the waiting list is currently 2-3 days. That’s hardly worth not doing this for, right?

“But I only read fic, I don’t post it”

here is a post on why having an account just to read fic is also very worth it!

Lately I’ve been the tumblr person who jumps onto people who post cool fic to tumblr and going HEY HAVE YOU POSTED THIS TO AO3, YOU REALLY SHOULD, HIT ME UP FOR AN INVITE CODE and I hereby invite all you fellow fic readers and posters to join me into spreading the good word.

Please reblog this and tag your favourite fandoms and pairings! Spread this post to the people who need to see it! Save great fic from the tumblr void!

Of an excellent actress, a predictable script and a tripe load of heteronormative tropes.

I just watched Christmas Inheritance. Eliza Taylor is an excellent actress, I really enjoy her work. I enjoyed her work in this film but it was not easy to. The reason it was not easy to was: the horrible and predictive script, the somewhat wooden actors that were also in the film (Andie MacDonald was great, love her), the awful awful choice in eligible men available to “Ellie”. I mean seriously, I have not dated or tried to date a man in an age but surely their are more choices than: option one - entitled judgy rich elitist douche bag who treats his fiancé like a possession; or option two - judgy dismissive “set in his ways” not in touch with his feelings and can’t even look his love interest in the eyes traditionalist. Like wow both these dudes spent more time looking at inatimate objects e.g. cellphone or floor, than looking at the woman they are supposed to be into.

Is this what straight movies are like? Is the bar this low for male suitors? Surely there is more than one Justin Trudeau out there.

At one point I drifted off during a Ellie Jake scene because there was no chemistry and was like “how did Eliza and Alycia create so much chemistry in a post apocalyptic world when this Jake dude is stiffer than a nut cracker in this rom com?” Near the end I was just hoping Ontari would show up and kill the suitors. Sigh.

My only explanation for this film is that Ms. Taylor, as an Australian, had all these nostalgic ideas around “White Christmases” and was wooed by that aspect of the script. But that wasn’t real snow. Snow doesn’t spray up from the sidewalk midway up a stairway.

Le sigh.
