We’re Already Halfway To Climate Change’s “Dangerous Limit”
Scientists say that warming of 2˚C is about all we can handle before we hit “dangerous” levels of climate change, a threshold of global temperature change that would bring enough droughts, food insecurity, rising sea levels, and species extinctions to make human life very much not fun.
The UK’s Met Office just reported that we’re already halfway there. Earth’s average temp has gone up 1˚C.
Tick, tock.

Once you start thinking of ‘poet’ as identity, once you start thinking that being a poet is just like being anything else that you are, as being something else that you were born, then you can go about doing the things that poets do, and you can go about that more comfortably. Or at least I think so. Or at least it gives you a rationale for why you’re doing what poets do. Like, ‘Why are you still in the dark, trying to read, at two o’clock in the morning?’ ‘Oh, because I’m a poet.’ ‘Why are you pulling your car over to write a line down and you’re already late to where you’re going?’ ‘Because I’m a poet.’

it’s easy to sit from your balcony of privilege & look down upon the masses, ignorant of why they’re angry.
it’s easy to sit under a shelter because you’re protected by privilege & wonder why the masses complain that they’re fed up with the rain.
it’s easy to sit in your warm house with state of the art equipment & wonder why people constantly complain that they’re left out in the cold
it’s easy to celebrate because your crops have yielded a high amount & question why other people complain, unaware that they weren’t given enough seeds. unaware that it barely ever rains here… the sun doesn’t even shine here…
it’s easy to be blinded by privilege. to remain neutral in situations of oppression simply because you are unaffected. but to remain neutral, is to strengthen the power of the oppressor.

There is no branch of mathematics, however abstract, which may not some day be applied to phenomena of the real world.
