What's A Nightmare?

What's a Nightmare?

Whispers running through my mind,

Whispers raging all the time.

The lines of red across my wrists,

Reminding myself of all the fists.

The blows upon my weary head,

A moment more I could be dead.

The silence of the broken tomb,

Wishing I'd never left the womb.

Did I deserve this, should I care?

The tears stream down from here to there...

A wretched child with nowhere to be,

No one to love and nothing to see.

The places I'd been always overlook'd,

By the twisted smile that he crooked.

Is there escape from this fiendish Hell,

Or is this called Heaven and all is well? From one dream to the next, what's a nightmare like?

Whenever I wake may as well be another fight...

Molecular Porcelain

Bobby Jaber was a chemistry teacher who was always inspired by art. Now that he’s retired from the classroom, he’s an artist inspired by chemistry.

He molds porcelain clay into molecularly-inspired spheres reminiscent of Buckminsterfullerine (AKA ”C60”), perhaps the most beautiful molecule on Earth. His creations are often symbolic of famous people, places, and moments from the history of science, from Antikythera to Archimedes.

Here’s a short film of the artist at work, by Dave Altizer:

You can see more of Jaber’s chemical creations on his website, Porcelania.

What does chemistry inspire you to create?

You might find it hard to imagine gravity as a weak force, but consider that a small magnet can hold up a paper clip, even though the entire earth is pulling down on it.

Before the balloon pops, the light reflects off of the inner surface back to first side. You can see the inner reflection appear on the outer surface (hence the two lights). When the balloon pops, the inner surface appears brighter as it is not reflecting through the first surface again, but straight to the camera.
