Panic attack for bingo?

image

Wow, thanks for the ask! I tried my best with this one :)

Prompt: Panic Attack

Fandom: Original Work

Trigger Warning: Panic Attack

@badthingshappenbingo

Part 1 | Part 2

Where was Chief? Why hadn’t he found her yet?

Clara tugged at the tape that held her wrists. Nothing happened. Her wrists stayed pinned to the chair.

What was going to happen next?

When was Tom going to come back?

Did he leave her?

Was she going to die trapped in this room?

Her heart thudded in her chest. She could hear the blood rushing through her head.

What was happening?

She pulled at her wrists harder, but the tape held. Her breathing quickened, as tears started to stream down her face.

What was happening?

“Let me go.” She yelled as loud as she could, but her voice only came out as a small whimper.

She could hear Tom’s footsteps get closer.

He opened the door and stepped into the room. “Stop struggling.“ His voice trailed off.

Clara could feel his eyes on her. She wanted to ask him to help, or to look at him so he could see that she was hurting, but she couldn’t take her eyes off the floor.

“Hey.” He stepped forward and grabbed Clara’s chin. “Hey, it’s going to be ok.”

She took her eyes off the floor and made eye contact with Tom, the tears still streaming down her face.

He reached behind her and undid the tape that held her wrists.

Not knowing what to do she threw her arms around Tom and started crying harder.

“It’s going to be ok,” Tom said hugging her back. “Try focusing on your breathing.”

Clara closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“Good. Now keep doing that.” Tom bent down and cradled her in his arms.

She could feel them walking through the house until he set her down on something soft.

Opening her eyes, she saw Tom pull a large blanket over her.

“How are you feeling?” he asked tucking the blanket under her chin.

Tears still streaming down her face Clara croaked “I-I don’t know.”

“It will be ok. I have had attacks like this before. Just try to sleep, and I will start making some food.”

Clara nodded and rolled onto her side. “Why are you helping me?” She muttered quietly.

Tom froze in the doorway.

“I don’t want to hurt you. I don’t care if you believe me or not, but I don’t.”

“Why did you kidnap me then?” she asked, rolling to face him.

He sighed leaning against the door frame.

“I thought it was the right thing to do.”

“I don’t believe that.”

“You don’t have to.” He said gritting his teeth.

“You said you wanted to make Chief pay.”

“Like I said before, he left me behind. I want to teach him a lesson so he’ll never do that again.”

Her heart started to beat faster, and Clara sat up, staring at Tom. “Again, I don’t believe you. Chief would never leave someone behind.”

Tom pushed away from the wall. “You don’t know him like I did, and like I’ve said a hundred times, I don’t care if you believe me. Now lay down, and I will make some food.”

She stared at him as her heartbeat drummed in her ears. Tears sprung up behind her eyes.

Tom stepped forward pushing her down onto the bed again. “Keep breathing. I’m sorry that I got mad. Try and sleep and we can talk about it later.”

Clara glared but closed her eyes.

Thoughts swam around her brain.

Why did Tom hate Chief?

What had Chief done to him?

Where was Chief?

Was he going to save her?

Through her thoughts she could hear Tom leave the room, closing the door behind him.

Clara decided to sleep first and worry about questions later. She rolled back on her side and drifted off to sleep.

9 Ways to Tighten Up Your Novel’s Middle

9 Ways To Tighten Up Your Novel’s Middle

Every year, we’re lucky to have great sponsors for our nonprofit events. Scrivener, a 2022 Camp NaNoWriMo sponsor, is an award-winning writing app that has been enthusiastically adopted by best-selling novelists and novices alike. Today, Scrivener director Julia Pierce is here to share some tips on writing your story’s middle:

We’re midway through Camp and around now, some of you may be starting to experience the curse of the saggy middle. This isn’t just a euphemism for what happens when the need to meet your daily word count target becomes all-consuming and takes precedence over your daily exercise routine. Nope, it’s that bit where the doubts about your story’s structure start to creep in… Is that storyline really as gripping as you first thought? Would the hero really make that choice…?

Unfortunately, writing the midsection of a novel is tricky—it’s where the hard work happens, the plot is driven on, characters grow and plans are tried (and fail). With this part taking up around 50% of the word count, a good rate of momentum is vital to carry the reader with you from your perfect beginning to the novel’s climax. So, how can you pep up your prose? Here are some tried and tested methods:

How I Wrote A Novel.

This, in a nutshell, is what I did to get a book with my name on it.

NOTE: This is just my personal way of making the words go. Other people have different ways to make their words go. In the world of words, there are no right answers. There’s just lots and lots of tea/coffee/tear stains.

1). The Idea

When I get an idea for a story, I open up a document, label it “Brainstorming,” and start making a bullet list of events that consist of the plot.

How I Wrote A Novel.

It has to be an idea with tangible weight. A stray bit of dialogue or something vague like Halloween, that doesn’t give me much to work off of. Halloween creatures living on the same street where it’s Autumn every day- now that’s something I can build from.

What kinds of creatures are they? What do they do? What do their houses look like? The best ideas are the ones that spark more.

2). First Draft

How I Wrote A Novel.

This is the easy part- and the most challenging. Easy, because there’s literally no bar. I just sat there and typed. But it’s a huge mental challenge.

When I was in first draft mode, I wanted that story out. I thought that by making it such a rough, far-away version from the concept in my head, I was only delaying the day where I’d hold it in my hands. Turns out, that’s what got it to take on physical form in the first place. So I quieted down, grabbed my laptop and some hot tea, and typed.

3). Dissecting the First Draft

image

After I finished draft one, I printed it all off and highlighted the scant amounts that were passable for the next phase. Dialogue, descriptions, setting- anything that didn’t look like it was up to par was scratched out and omitted.

I call the above pictures A Slow Descent Into Madness.

4). The Second Draft

How I Wrote A Novel.

On a fresh document, I rewrote the story altogether- and it make a difference. I was coming up with things I hadn’t even thought of previously. And it was surprising how much better the plot was than the first time around. But it was still rough.

5). Draft Three

How I Wrote A Novel.

My method was to start with the bigger, more obvious issues and work my way down. Any plot holes I found were noted, and my outline was constantly under revision. I cut out entire scenes and made mental notes on ways they could be fixed/replaced.

This is where I started cutting chapters in half to make the story flow better- but I didn’t bother writing in usable chapter titles. Instead, I improvised:

6). Drafts Four and Five

How I Wrote A Novel.

These were dedicated to correcting the smaller, less obvious plot holes. This was the point where the story finally started to look close to what would become the final version.

7). Drafts Seven Onward

How I Wrote A Novel.

With the story line looking how I wanted, I then moved on to sentence structure. That one song that looked terrible? Rewritten. Over-the-top descriptions and excessive prose? Gone.

8). Editing and Proofing

This is where I had outside help. Besides this useful tool, I had two people check for spelling issues and the overall story. Once it was in decent shape to be made public, I asked for some additional help.

9). Betas

My betas were in the age range that my novel was geared toward, along with a couple of teachers and parents (as it was middle grade). I gave them the full manuscript, along with seven basic questions like “Which characters were your favorite/least favorite and why?” and “Was there a part of the story that didn’t make sense?”

I gave my betas three months to read a 42,590 word story, and by the end they gave me back the review sheets.

10). Final Adjustments

After I read over the reviews, I let the comments sit for three days so that I could proceed with a clear head. I smoothed out any flaws, scanned over the MS twice to make sure everything was right, and that is how I got to the end of writing my first novel.

Next comes publishing- which is a different beast entirely.

“Glitched”: An Antisepticeye horror fanfiction

image

SUMMARY of “Glitched”:

“Glitched” is centered around August 3rd - when “Kill Jacksepticeye” happened. In October of 2016, Antisepticeye decided to show himself and get our attention. He gained control of Jack and from then onward, has been in control. However, as the months go by, our glitching creation begins to notice the change in the community. With each month, he becomes convinced that we, the community, are to blame for everything - we are the true villains - and Anti will do whatever he can to prove it to not only Jack, the egos, and himself but to us as well. His creators have unknowingly created a monster, and that monster wants revenge.

WARNING: The story is incredibly dark and heavy on the angst, as well as the horror and gore. This is NOT a happy, fun-times story - there is absolutely nothing cheerful or lighthearted. There are numerous moments of characters experiencing moments of despair, desperation, trauma, torture (both physically and mentally), and heartbreak. There are strong themes of abnormal body horror, torture, murder, insanity, and the loss of morality and control over one’s actions. Some chapters contain gore and graphic, detailed descriptions of surgical operations being performed (which I have bolded below), which increasingly get worse over the duration of the story. In a few later chapters, there are mentions of cyber bullying, self-harm, suicide, child murder, and cannibalism. You have been warned.

I do plan to write a sequel to this once it’s done - the last chapter will be left open for that reason. The sequel, I have decided, will be called “Anti/social” and while “Glitched” is more focused on Anti, “Anti/social” will focus more on Jack and take place a week or two after the events of “Glitched”. I’m just letting you all know in advance.

There are about 4 chapters left of the story, so I’ll update this post every time I post a new chapter.

Enjoy everyone! :)

Ella ran across the rooftops.

“Are you close?” The voice in her ear questioned.

She stopped looking over the city. “Yeah. What is this for again?”

“There’s a hostage situation uptown. The police are there right now, but it seems like they need help.”

Ella nodded her head and started to run again. When she got to the end of the building, she focused on the next rooftop and teleported to it.

“Hey, Jack, who is responsible for the hostage situation.” She asked as she pressed on the device in her ear.

Jack was silent for a minute.

“They say that it was a man.” Another voice cut in.

“Any more than that Natalie?” Ella stopped on the roof.

Natalie fell silent too and Ella was left standing on the roof. Waiting for a response she started to fiddle with her blonde hair.

Jack finally cut in, “They said he walked into the bank and took a teller hostage. They don’t have anything else. He is currently stationed on the roof of the bank. You should hurry.”

Ella nodded and started running again. After teleporting across the city, she found herself at the front of the bank. There were cop cars stationed all around it with their lights flashing. She reached up and pulled her mask over her face.

Save the Children

The stream ends. Finally, after over 24 hours, the equipment is shut off. As the last of the goodbyes and well wishes die down, one would expect some celebration among the group.

But there is nothing.

They simply let their arms fall and stand there, emotions draining from their face. All of them, except for Jack.

The Irishman glares at the figure standing behind the cameras and the crew. His arms fold across his body, and though his body language appears confident and challenging, his eyes show fear.

“Alright Anti, I did what you wanted. Now let them go.”

The glitch steps out of the shadows, twirling a knife in his hand. He grins, but it is not a friendly grin. It’s the grin of a psychopath.

“And why should I do that? There’s lots more fun to be had?”

Jack begins trembling. “We had a deal!” He cries, anger and worry mingling in his voice.

Anti giggles. “Actually, if I remember correctly, the deal was you give me an outlet to remind the good people who they’re dealing with, and I don’t harm your little friends. And as you can see, I haven’t harmed them.” He creeps forward, eyes glinting. Suddenly, his smile turns to an expression of pure malice. “Would you like me to?”

Jack, despite his best efforts, stumbles back, instinctively reaching his arms out to shield his paralyzed companions. “You-you wouldn’t!”

“Wouldn’t I?” A glint appears in the demon’s eye, and he begins to glitch in spot. “Unlike you, I don’t need them to remain here. They could disappear for all I care.” As if to demonstrate his point, he glitches right behind Ethan and lifts the knife to his throat. The American remains unsettlingly still. Jack’s entire body stiffens, not daring to move for fear of his friend being harmed.

“What do you still want from me?” He whispers, so low that it’s barely audible. “I gave you what you asked for. I let you use the stream. What more do you need?” Anti laughs once again, the sound sending shivers down Jack’s spine. He vanishes from behind Ethan, and reappears to whisper directly in Jack’s ear.

“Your precious community mocked me. They laughed at me, turned me into a joke. They need to learn that I am to be feared. They need to be punished.” Anti manifests on the couch, lounging as a king might. “Do you realize how much power an entire night of uninterrupted attention from thousands brings?”

Suddenly, Jack’s vision begins to blur. He stumbles to the floor as pain wracks his brain, threatening to tear him apart from the inside. He struggles for control as he feels himself slipping into the back of his mind. Anti gets up off the couch and saunters over to the Irishman, lifting his chin so that their eyes meet.

“I think you’re the ones who need saving now.”

SUPERKIDDOS, part one! Once again I write too much dialogue… I just really like to see Damian rant. This is the gen, supersons + colin mash-up I’ve wanted for years lol so forgive the self-indulgence! Here’s the blurb:

The Supersons encounter an enemy that threatens to tear them apart: Meep Meeps, the newest fad hitting the country! When Damian gets kidnapped, however, his friend Colin must reach out to Superboy to help get their little Robin back…

Like with RSVP, I’ll be working steadily to get these out in five-page increments. For those curious, you can find all the pre-color work for this fancomic here: thumbs | inks part one

And the original valentines comic that introduced them to colin here: valentines fluff
