And, just like this, we are back in the groove.
After a slow start to the day i managed to get some important tasks done. No progress on essays I need to write, but I've made plans to meet up with a friend at the library tomorrow, so I hope I'll make some progress then.
I edited an essay for my professor and nearly went crazy over it. I enjoy editing a lot and I am very grateful I get to take part in a project, even if it's just in a really small way. But got damn, that one was not pleasant to work through. It used a citation style I am not very familiar with and then didn't even use that one consistently. I had to ask the other student assistant for help. He's been doing the job for a while and he's being very patient and nice, but it was quite anxiety inducing. I am very grateful for his help, tho, and I hope I'm not causing him too much of a hassle.
Besides that today was just more of the usual. Watched Peaky Blinders and am currently getting some reading in before bed.
Positive things I did today:
kept the duolingo spanish streak going
cooked a meal
got some admin work done
did edeting
watched Peaky Blinders with a friend
continued reading All Quiet on the Western Front
Hours slept: ~9hrs Screentime: 7hrs Steps taken: ~100 (very rainy, no walk for me :(( )
for those of you who don't know "we should write a paper on this" is equivalent to "we should start a band" in academia

Today was chore day. I got a lot done, just nothing for school, sadly.
I also rearranged one of my book shelves! (As you can see above) Space is always a problem in this apartment so I'm preemtively rearranging for future books
Positive things I did today:
kept the duolingo Spanish streak going
cooked a warm meal
cleaned the kitchen
changed the sheets
did the laundry
packed my siblings' birthday presents
Hours slept: ~7hrs 45mins Screentime: 4hrs Steps taken: ~500
Ah, the good old taxi driver. I get that one so frequently as well, especially since I dropped out of the teacher-trainee program in favor of a "regular" BA in English. Wether it's linguistics or literature, people struggle immensely with understanding what language might possibly be good for and how anyone might be able to monetize it. (I hate that everything is always about money)
visited a museum today that shows you how blind people navigate through their everyday lives (very interesting btw) and this one lady wanted to know what i'm studying so when i told her linguistics, she honest to god said "what can you do with that except become a taxi driver" 🤡 idk maybe work on those text-to-speech systems that we just learnt about?? yk for blind people??
I love how Dead poets society perfectly presented how kids who don't receive enough validation that they crave from their parents often seek validation on teachers who act like parental figures to them instead. You know that thing where people would say that kids with mother issues often cling to female teachers while those with father issues on the other half often cling to male teachers? ── Neil's father issues explains why he was so drawn to Mr. Keating. He's fond of him very much because Mr. Keating treated him with warmth unlike his father who treated him with such sternness and coldness. Mr. Keating acted like the father figure that he needed.
(he's so me)
an incomplete list of unsettling short stories I read in textbooks
the scarlet ibis
marigolds
the diamond necklace
the monkey’s paw
the open boat
the lady and the tiger
the minister’s black veil
an occurrence at owl creek bridge
a rose for emily
(I found that one by googling “short story corpse in the house,” first result)
the cask of amontillado
the yellow wallpaper
the most dangerous game
a good man is hard to find
some are well-known, some obscure, some I enjoy as an adult, all made me uncomfortable between the ages of 11-15
add your own weird shit, I wanna be literary and disturbed

The post social gathering burn out is real. So amidst helping my mom prepare for my siblings' party with their friends (yesterday was just for family) I just focused on recharging and not being sad.
Positive things I did this day:
did the laundry
helped out my mom
watched Eclipse
Hours slept: ~8hrs Screentime: ~8hrs Steps taken: ~1.500
Hey you. You know you should be doing The Thing. I don't want to do The Thing, either. But we can sit down and do it for 2 minutes together. Then we can do it for 5 minutes. Then 10. And so on and so forth until it is done. I'll be coming back to reiterate this.
To whoever needs to hear it: it does not have to be perfect. It does not have to be world altering. It just needs to be done. And I'll sit with you while you do The Thing.
Now go. Stop scrolling. Go work on The Thing. I'll be back to check on you and cheer us both on.
