08.06.17 // 16:47 My habit tracker from a few days ago! It’s really helpful to see what I need to work on (a healthier diet and drinking more water!). Which habits do you track?
These are my tips for giving really good presentations in class! It will be slightly more geared towards history, english, etc. and some of the tips might not apply to science classes, but hopefully this helps.!
Presenting Well:
Know what you are talking about. When you are giving a presentation, you should be an expert in what you are talking about. Study the topic like it’s your job.
If you are working with a partner, still make sure you know it all! When I do partner presentations, this is what I do. Decide who is going to do each part of the presentation. This is the part that you should know backwards and forwards. But! You should also have a good amount of knowledge about your partner’s topics. If one of you falters or forgets something, the other can back them up. Also, this helps to make you look more cohesive and less like you just split it in half.
Be able to answer questions. This ties into my last point. If a classmate or a teacher asks you a question and you have no idea, it doesn’t look good. You should know more information than just what you’re presenting.
Don’t read from notes. If you stand up and just read from a page, your class might as well be reading this information from a textbook. If you can, don’t use any notes at all. If you absolutely need them, make them super short jot notes, not full sentence pages of notes.
Organize your slides in a way that makes sense. Start with background information, then state your thesis, then get into your arguments and more detailed information. Don’t put your thesis at the end, or skip over the background information.
Include a conclusion at the end of your presentation. A presentation is basically a verbal essay, so you should be including all of these parts. Restate your thesis and quickly sum up the reasons that you talked about in the presentation. This will help everyone in your audience to understand what you discussed.
Dress up a bit and try to look really good. I personally believe that a lot of confidence can come from the outside. Looking good and being comfortable with what you’re wearing will make you more confident. Also, a lot of teachers want to see that you made an effort to look professional for a presentation.
Talk to the class like you’re having a conversation. Obviously, you don’t want to be too relaxed and seem like you don’t know what you’re talking about. But it is really helpful to use your normal language and tone, throw in a couple jokes, and just act normal! It’s always really weird when someone turns into a robot when they are giving a presentation, so try to avoid that if possible.
Practice in front of someone! This will help you avoid looking awkward and help you go at a normal speed. Also, they can tell you if there was a part that they didn’t understand or anything like that. Try to choose someone objective, that won’t lie to make you feel better.
Time out your presentation. You have to time out your presentations before you do them. It’s not fair to other presenters and to your class if you go way over the time limit. Time yourself reading through the presentation, then again when you present in front of someone. Maybe leave a bit of time at the end for questions, too.
Making Good Visuals:
Use something simple. Unless your teacher suggests otherwise, just use slides or something simple like slides. Unless you are really good with these kinds of programs, when you try and do something like a video or a Prezi, its way more likely that it will look unfinished or crazy. I personally hate Prezi, because it’s way too hard to follow.
Use a built in slides theme. Again, this might not apply to you if you’re really into graphic design, but for the most part, stick to this rule. When you try and mix your own colours and patterns and fonts, it can tend to look really busy. Try to stick with a preset theme.
Do not have full sentences. You should not have more than 10 words on your entire slide, if that. A really good photo, political cartoon, graph, or other graphic says way more than an exact copy of the words you’re already saying. Your slides are a visual to back you up, not the main focus. If your class has to take notes on your presentation, this might not apply.
Don’t use a white background. Pure white makes your eyes hurt. Change the background colour to a really pale grey, one shade lower than white. This will help your audience focus on the slides better.
Make sure your visuals are working. Ask your teacher if you can double check that your slides are compatible with their computer, or at least check it on a computer at your school. Especially if your school uses Mac and you use Windows (or vice versa). Also, check that your videos and audio work!

Today I didn’t actually studied but I organised everything I’ve gotta do this vacation. I’m so happy and excited!

MARCH MASTERPOST MADNESS PT I as part of a follower milestone and celebrating spring break, i present to you march masterpost madness: a series of masterposts/guides on studying by yours truly!! first up we have math & how to study for it!!
i love math so much it looks like i spend almost all my free time doing it. anyway, i got a few requests asking me how to study best for math and about resources, so i thought it’d be best to start off with this one!!
SO, HOW DO I STUDY FOR MATH?
practice, practice and practice!! this is so important, omg. math is heavy on problem-solving, and most problems require analytical thinking and application of logic — the best way to hone these skills is through plain practice! besides, once you get used to math questions, you find them less intimidating and you get faster and more accurate at solving them! i suggest using practice books (your textbook should be a good starting point) or finding problems online (Khan Academy is great!). A pro tip is to look around your school community (ask teachers, students, librarians) for practice books — most of them will gladly lend you a book they’ve gone through! it’s ideal to practice/do at least one-two questions everyday, or even more! if you’re stuck on a practice problem and have no one to ask to, feel free to ask the mathblrs, wolfram alpha or the internet! (google your question: it has saved me numerous times!!)
pay attention in class!! this is definitely recommended, but it’s really not a must. if you don’t have a strong aptitude for math, i really urge you to do this! listen actively, you don’t have to take note of every word the teacher/lecturer says, but do listen to the most important parts! when a teacher emphasizes something, pay extra attention to that (but don’t leave out any parts of the chapter!).

calculus: x, x, x, x, x, x, x
A FINAL NOTE
remember all your formulas!! know the syllabus!! know how to apply the concepts in problems!! those three things alone will get you to pass — i’m sure!!
try not to cram — study a week (at least) in advance for an exam!! (bigger exams need more prep time!!) an all-nighter won’t do you good!!
always remember, if you fail, you are not a failure!! there’s always a next time that you can get a better score in!!
So, I decided to make this post for you guys and I hope you find these tips as helpful as I did :)
1. Never compare yourself to others, but really, NEVER do it.
From my personal experience, I can tell you there’s nothing more destructive than comparing yourself to another person. Every single one of us unique and has their own amazing skills. Maybe one of your friends aces Physics class but you rule when it comes to Chemistry class or a foreign language. Also never let anyone make you feel like you’re not awesome because you are. As Eleanor Roosevelt would say “No one can make feel inferior without your consent.” So don’t let them and wWhat you do, do it for you.
2. See what you’re missing and do it.
If you pay attention and make fantastic notes, but still you don’t reach your desired goal and you know you can do better, check what is missing. Maybe is studying for the exam. Maybe is handing in the homework. Maybe it can be related to a poor sleep or nutrition. You gotta identify what is wrong and do something to change it.
3. Sit up front.
Again, I have experienced this and when I sit in the back I completely lose my focus and immediately start to talk with my friends and doodling on the back of my notebook. Look for the seats right in the front, you’ll be able to pay more attention to what the teacher/lecturer is saying and you’ll be more likely to get done your work fast.
4. Time management.
As a big procrastinator, I can tell you that not having a schedule or not planning your tasks can be really harmful to your grades. I know sometimes Season 4 of Sherlock sound more fun than Spanish reading but you need to prioritize. Make a list, from the most important task to the least, that way if you do not complete everything, you will have ready the most essential duties. Be strong and work hard, then relax.
5. Eat well and sleep well.
As I wrote in one of the past points, sleep and food can be a really influent factor in your school performance. If you only eat junk food and sleep four hours, you’ll be more likely to fall asleep in class or even to suffer a lack of focus and energy because of not nurturing your body properly. I know sometimes homework takes more time that we expected to get done but if it’s not school work or something really important, you should try not to stay awake (even more if your reason to lose hours of precious sleep is to be scrolling down Instagram or Tumblr, which can be done next day). Eat your veggies and get 8-hour sweet dreams.
6. Stay hydrated.
Drink at least 2 liters of water per day. It increases energy and relieves fatigue, promotes weight loss, flushes out toxins and will get you closer to the perfect skin we all want.
7. Pray
Personally, this has been really important to me, especially when it comes to a big exam or a contest. Praying always gives me peace and makes me feel more confident. I invite you to try it, you’ll see the difference. Also, studies have demonstrated that prayer helps you to have more self-control and makes you less vulnerable to the negative physical health effects associated with stress.
8. Pretend that you’ll have to teach the material you are learning, that way you’ll pay more attention and be more likely to memorize it fast.
Always do your best and remember that good thing take time.
